Sri Lanka’s abstention from voting on UNESCO resolution on Israeli atrocities on Masjid Al Aqsa: Insults island’s Muslims and Muslims worldwide
On Thursday 13 October 2016 Sri Lanka, once a strong defender of brutalised Palestinian rights, abstained from voting on UNESCO resolution which deprecated Israeli violations in and around the al-Haram al-Sharif, Masjid Al Aqsa, compound in the occupied Old City of Jerusalem al-Quds.
This shocking U Turn in the island’s once proud and respected neutral foreign policy, insults the island’s Muslims and around 1.5 billion Muslims worldwide who always stood by the island especially during times of adversity though successive governments and the mainstream media failed to recognise or appreciate.
Sri Lanka’s abstention in favour of Israeli atrocities demonstrated the bankruptcy of the crisis ridden Yahapalanaya government’s short sighted foreign policy of blindly aligning with US and thereby being indifferent to all US led European Israeli war crimes on Muslims worldwide.
What was further shocking is that in its drive to please US and Israel, the government has dismissed the Muslim community’s unstinted support which played a decisive role in bringing UNP government to power after losing more than two dozen elections.
In its resolution UNESCO, (UN Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization) has strongly condemned “the escalating Israeli aggression, its illegal measures and called on “Israel, the occupying power, to respect the historic status quo and to immediately stop these measures.”
The resolution also criticized the “continuous storming of Haram al-Sharif by the Israeli right-wing extremists and uniformed forces. “The resolution ignored Jewish ties to the Temple Mount and the Western Wall, used only Muslim names for the Jerusalem Old City holy sites and was harshly critical of Israel for what it termed “provocative abuses that violate the sanctity and integrity” of the area.
The resolution starts by affirming the “importance of the Old City of Jerusalem and its Walls for the three monotheistic religions,” but then goes on to accuse Israel — which it consistently calls “the occupying power” — of a long list of wrongdoings. The text “firmly deplores the continuous storming” of the Al-Aqsa Mosque/Al-Haram AL Sharif — Muslim names for the Temple Mount compound and the mosque located there — “by Israeli right-wing extremists and uniformed forces.”
It also decries Israeli works in the Western Wall Plaza, which it terms the al-Burak plaza after the Muslim name for the site.
Masjid Al Aqsa remains the third holiest place in Islam after Masjid al-Haram in Mecca and Masjid al-Nabawi in Medina. Thus is it is dear to the hearts of every Muslim in the world. Ever since Israel occupied Jerusalem in June 1967 war of aggression Israel has unleashed unprecedented violence against Palestinian worshippers to Al Aqsa.
According to Ma’am News Agency “Palestinians come under routine fierce attacks as they attempt with their bare hands, sticks and stones to prevent repeated violent assaults by Israeli occupation forces into Jerusalem’s mosque compound. The violence comes as Israeli-backed Jewish extremist groups bent on destroying Al Aqsa mosque, and construct a Jewish “Third Temple” in its place.
Israeli forces injuring worshippers by firing stun grenades, tear gas canisters and rubber-coated steel bullets remain a daily occurrence. The Jerusalem Municipality and government ministries directly fund and support these extremists showing the official support to this hooliganism.
One tactic Israel has used more frequently to facilitate the incursions is to issue banning orders against Palestinian volunteers whose goal is to maintain a constant presence at the compound.
The next step many fear could be a physical partition of the compound between Jews and Muslims, following the model Israel imposed on the Ibrahimi mosque in Hebron after the 1994 massacre by an American-born Jewish settler who killed 29 Palestinian men and boys who were performing Ramadan prayers.
The UNESCO resolution is to uphold justice and condemn the lawlessness and atrocities of the Israeli occupation forces.
Under such circumstance abstaining from voting for this resolution means the Sri Lankan government has dismissed justice and discarded the just cause of Palestinians and Muslims worldwide in its drive to support Israeli lawlessness and barbarity. The irony is that Israel is an entity established in violation of all moral, legal and ethical principles cherished by humanity throughout the ages has committed more than 60 massacres of Palestinians.
Sri Lanka’s abstention is not something unexpected in view of Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe’s pro-western mind-set. In fact he was one of the few prime ministers in the world who refused to condemn America’s illegal invasion and destruction of oil rich Iraq in 2003 and the massacre of more than a million and half innocent Iraqi.
It was said by many that when UNP Muslim parliamentarians tried to condemn the American invasion of Iraq Mr Wickremasinghe had asked them to do so after leaving the government.
In the 1960s and 1970s Sri Lankan voice was highly respected in all third world forums for its support to oppressed people worldwide in their struggle for freedom. Under the circumstance the need of the hour is to reestablish the image of Sri. This cannot be achieved by rolling red carpet to war criminals.
For more than six decades Israelis tried many time to sneak into the island but were expelled time and again by successive Sri Lankan government.
It was defeated President Mahinda Rajapaksa, so called champion of Palestinians rights, opened the door for Zionist presence here. Zionists grabbed the opportunity. They got President Mahinda Rajapaksa, then Prime Minister Ratnasiri Wickremanayake and a parliamentary delegation led by then Leader of the House Nimal Sripala De Silva to visit Israel. Since then several ministers and top officials visited Israel. Certainly a great achievement for Israel.
This policy continues with greater intensity today. Since assuming office the UNP led government has opened the island to Zionist Jews whose global agenda is to destroy and eliminate Islam and Muslims worldwide. Under such circumstance they are not here to help Sri Lanka in any way but to implement their designs which would turn the country into a killing field.
They are so successful that they got even President Maithripala Sirisena to visit the holocaust museum in Germany- exploited by Zionist Jews as a weapon to win sympathy to establish their racist state of Israel in Palestine with US-European support. Perhaps President Sirisena was not aware of the seriousness and the implications of this visit.
The present international political scenario is for US, Britain and Europe to destroy the Middle East, under the guise of fighting war on terrorism, to create Greater Israel. The RSS government in India whose declared agenda is to eliminate Islam and Muslims from India has joined US-European-Israeli – Axis.
Indications are that Sri Lanka is also being absorbed into this Axis.
However despite Sri Lanka throwing its weight behind this AXIS the island was not flooded with foreign investment. Instead continues to depend on remittance mainly from Sri Lankan expatriates from the Gulf state without which the economy may even collapse.

Abstaining is literally being neutral. The only bias is from this author, who seems to make two mistakes:
First the assumption that Sri Lankan Muslims as a homogeneity are obliged to show kinship towards Palestinians, purely due to religion.
Secondly, that it is righteous to deny the Israeli jews’ relationship to their most holy site.

If the Arab countries were serious about the Palestinian issue, they have a number of options. The first is to offer full citizenship rights to all displaced Palestinians. The second option is to use oil as a weapon of war against the West, thereby forcing the West to take serious action against Israel. The Arab countries are not interested in any of these options. Egypt is actively cooperating with Israel in the blockade of Gaza, KSA is buying Israeli weapons, and Turkey recently renewed its diplomatic relations with Israel. These are some of the same Arab countries that supported the UNESCO resolution.
As for Sri Lanka, it has to put its security interests ahead of foreign human rights interests. Israel is a major arms supplier; some of those weapons, like drones, will probably be hard to get elsewhere.
Conclusion: it is up to the Arab countries to stop the Israeli occupation. They have to exert pressure on the US, like they did to convince the US to destroy Yemen and Syria.

Stick to historical facts.
The Palestinians, both Christian and Muslim, had Citizenship Rights in Palestine, when they comprised 95% of the Population during 1895. It was the British with the infamous Sykes-Picot agreement, and the Balfour Declaration of 1916. that gave the Land to the Jews from the Ottoman Empire. The Jews occupied Palestine. Historically, as per Bible, Joshua, by ethnically clensing the Philistines and Canaanites, where were the original inhabitants of the land, occupied the land, until they were dispersed by the Roman occupiers.
The Arabs were Stupid. They trusted the British more than the Ottoman’s, who were their former colonial masters, and they exchanged Ottoman’s to the British and French, and they were worse off. ( Are the Sinhala and Tamils, with average IQ 79, stupider than the Arabs, with Average IQ 84?) What you see now are the repercussions of this arrangement. They all are part of the Great Game of the 19th and 20th Centuries to contain Russia by the British and the French.
The British could have given the North and East of Sri Lanka to Tamils, the Tamils Eelam, or given Lanka to the Tamils and tell the Sinhala, now you get back to your homeland India, and settle in Bihar, Orissa and Bengal, with your kith and kin.

Arabs are a race. Arabs are Christian as well as Muslims. Only about 20% of the Muslims are Arabs. Islam is a belief system, and those who follow that belief system are called Muslims, independent of race and creed.
Where did the Jews go from Spain? To the Ottoman Empire, to the Muslims?
You need to get the historical background and facts straight.
If you really study empires and civilizations, including Islamic, Genghis Kahn, Roman etc, you will notice that

3. Many conquered peoples thought that God was really behind the Arabs and the Muslims. That is why they were successful and winning the wars. The mighty Persian Empire also fell. Why? God was behind the Muslims?
4. Conversations were allowed later. While this increased the Muslim population, the authorities did not like it, because it meant reduced taxes, as the Muslims were charged only 2.5% Tax.
5. They did allow for religious freedom and knowledge freedom, and made many advances in the sciences, before the religious Ulema controlled the masses and the authorities in the 12th century. there was active debate between Revelation and Reason. Read up on Islamic Philosophers and the Greeks.
Compared to Christians, especially Catholics, Genghis Kahn and the “Christian”., Pope-“Supported” Nazis, the Muslim Conquests were milder.

You are repeating the Western Christian explanations. What are the historical facts? How many fellow Citizens, Tamils, did the Sri Lanka army slaughter during 2009 AFTER surrender, who were combatants, not traitors? 600? 6,000? 60,000?

Peters adds that Muhammad was possibly emboldened by his military successes and also wanted to push his advantage. Economical motivations according to Peters also existed since the poorness of the Meccan migrants was a source of concern for Muhammad. Peters argues that Muhammad’s treatment of the Jews of Medina was “quite extraordinary”, “matched by nothing in the Qur’an”, and is “quite at odds with Muhammad’s treatment of the Jews he encountered outside Medina.” According to Welch, Muhammad’s treatment of the three major Jewish tribes brought Muhammad closer to his goal of organizing a community strictly on a religious basis. He adds that some Jews from other families were, however, allowed to remain in Medina.

Of course the women and children were spared. The women were taken as slaves and the children probably forced to convert. It is the same thing ISIS is doing in Syria. The point is that Muhammed never renounced violence, which is probably the reason that we see so much violence in the Islamic world today. Christians imitate Jesus, Buddhists imitate Buddha, Muslims imitate Muhammed – now you see the issue. The other issue is that Muslims are not allowed to question the Quran.

How many Japanese did the Americans vaporize by dropping two atom bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki? Anyway, a soldier is a soldier. A prophet is a prophet. The two should not be mixed together. If you read Gandhi’s autobiography, there were many times when his followers wanted to take up arms against the Muslims. Gandhi’s reaction was to go on a fast. Gandhi was not a prophet, but you can see the way the type of mindset they cultivate.

I think you are missing the history and “traditions” of 7th Century Arabia. You are also misled and brainwashed by the West. Hope you accept the Heliocentric model as opposed to the Geocentric Model of the Solar system,long supported by the West and the Church, as per Joshua.
1. The Jewish Tribesmen were traitors, because they were among the Inhabitants, both Jewish and Arabic, both non-Muslim and Muslims, and when the Meccans attacked, tried to support them.
The punishment was the standard punishment at that time, and the decision was made by the others, and Mohamed went along with it . However, the women an children were spared. Now compare that with the Crusaders capturing Jerusalem, and capturing both the Jewish and Muslim population in the City.
2. Prophets are people and they make human decisions. By definition, the “Prophets” are appointed by God. I am not aware that Prophets cannot pass judgement on people and punish wrong doers, when God Himself, as per Theology, punishes people wholesale. Just read the Bible, about Sodom and Gomorrah.

Most of the Christian holidays are pagan holidays, many of the life events of the “Jesus” figure are actually based on those of the Greek god Dionysus, and most of the Old Testament (creation story, flood story, etc.) are based on Sumerian/Babylonian mythology.
Given the above, I presume you can see the contradiction. Here we have a tradition (Islam) that lacks originality, based on two other traditions (Christianity/Judaism), that also lack originality. Lack of originality suggests neither of these three religions are authentic. Therefore, those who claim to be “prophets” based on claims to authenticity should be looked at with suspicion. However, out of all the prophets, the only one who engaged in blatant violence and aggression was Muhammed.

The point that this author is trying to make revolves round a specific stand that Sri Lanka as a nation took with regard to an international issue. It has nothing to do with the fact that some Sri Lankans are Muslims or the fact that the majority of Palestinians are Muslims. To refer to these facts are merely futile attempts to present tangential arguments (or red herrings) for the purpose of diverting attention from the subject matter.
The incident referred to by the author should be assessed along with what happened a few weeks previously when Sri Lanka rushed to show the world that it had decided to boycott the SAARC summit scheduled to be held in Pakistan, thereby demonstrating it’s ingratitude to a country that stood firmly by Sri Lanka politically and militarily during the 30-years of terrorism. Who can forget the willingness with which Pakistan supplied the game-changing multi-barrel launchers to the beleaguered Sri Lankan Army trapped in Jaffna when pleas for help to India for evacuation fell on deaf ears ? Who can forget the role Pakistan played at the UNHRC Summit in 2009 that provided much-needed respite to Sri Lanka ?
These recent happenings therefore do raise the question as to whether Sri Lanka has begun dancing to the tune of a new axis of evil.

Lankan Tamils always treated the Muslims as enemies and killed robbed and ill treated them. It was not the Tamils who were killing robbing and ethnically cleansing Muslims but the other way around. In the southern parts of country, the Muslim politicians and the establishment were openly collaborating with the Sinhalese against the island’s Tamils at every opportunity to discriminate and marginalise the Tamils, so that they that their fake Arab immigrant community from South India can benefit at the expense of the Tamils. It was a Muslim minister who introduced standardisation in order to prevent Tamil students with far higher marks gaining entry into universities. Sinhalese and Muslim students with far lower marks gained entrance at the expense of the Tamils. When that also did not work he introduced regional quotas in order to further curtail the number of Tamils entering higher education. It was during this minister era that marginalisation of Tamils in the east at the hands of Muslims and Sinhalese began in earnest. Another Muslim minister sent Muslim thugs and hooligans from Colombo under protection of the Sinhalese armed forces and police to the Kalmunai area during JR’s regime to terrorise the Tamil population in the region. Muslims mobs and thugs used to join Sinhalese hooligans and mobs to attack Tamil homes businesses to burn loot and rape during every state sponsored pogrom from 1958 onwards. Heavily armed Muslim home guards in the east under the protection of Special Task Forces used to kill murder ethnically cleans rape Tamil Hindu villages in the east. Many ancient historic Hindu temples were deliberately destroyed. Especially in the Batticaloa and Amparai region. Ask any Tamil in the east. They begging for refuge and seeking asylum in the east, fleeing Portuguese and then Sinhalese cruelty and the eastern Tamils took pity on them as fellow Tamils and gave them refuge, lands and even women to start a family and a few centuries later they are now repaying us by conniving with the Sinhalese to steal our land. This is the reason the LTTE were forced to retaliate against them in the east, in order to protect the Hindu Tamil and Tamilised Vedda villages from the ravages of these armed Muslim home guards who were heavily armed by the Sri Lankan armed forces. They used to hide their arms in the mosques and before a raid on a surrounding Tamil Hindu village, they used to go to the Mosque to collect their arms and to pray for Allah’s blessing to kill murder rape and ethnically cleanse the Hindu Tamil kaffirs. Despite the large scale support from the Sinhalese armed forces for these Muslim home guards in the east. A few good senior Sinhalese army officers helped the Tamils from these Shaitans.
In the north where they were only a microscopic minority or around 70000 the most in a sea of Hindu and Christian Eelam Tamils, they started spying and back stabbing games. Instead of minding their own business and living in respect and amity with their fellow Tamils, they started to spy for the Sri Lankan armed forces provide information to them and began to act like an enemy fifth column against their non Muslim Tamil neighbours. They were storing arms in their mosques and LTTE caught them. Prior unlike the east or the south there was no enmity or bad feelings between the Muslims and the Tamils as they were a very small microscopic community in the north. The relationship was very amicable. They could have just minded their business but could not do that but wanted to backstab and benefit from the misery of the Tamils. The LTTE did not want a repeat of what happened to the Tamils in the east and the south at the hands of these Muslims so asked them to leave. They never killed them or raped them but asked them to leave their possessions and leave. Most of them were dirt poor villagers and contrary to what they state now they never owned any land or of anything of value. There were some rich middle class Muslim businessmen but they were a very small minority. Unlike the south or in the east the Muslims in the north were a small minority and the vast majority of them were dirt poor. The vast majority of them lived in the Mannar region and they just walked to the next district Puttalam which has a large Tamil speaking Muslim Tamil population.
Do not try to distort history the Tamils have never discriminated or marginalised the island’s Muslims on the contrary they gave them refuge in the east as fellow Tamils, gave them a place to stay lands and even women to start a family ,when they fled from Portuguese cruelty and Sinhalese brutality. However at every opportunity the Muslims have connived with the Sinhalese to discriminate marginalise and steal from them and it is still happening in the east. You don’t see Tamil politicians the establishment of the elite ever advocating the marginalisation of the island’s Muslims. They always try to include them under the banner of Tamil speaking people. This despite the fact the Muslims in the island constantly denying their real immigrant Indian Tamil Dravidian origin and always claiming a fake Arab/Moorish origin that only a few hundred families partially have. A distant Arab male ancestor with all the rest Tamil. The Muslim politicians their elite and their establishment, especially the southern elite as seen in these columns always run down the Tamils and advocate their marginalisation and discrimination, so that their immigrant community from South India not the Arabian Gulf can benefit. Muslims mobs home guards and hooligans have joined with the Sinhalese to kill murder loot ethnically cleanse Tamils and destroy Hindu temples, in the east and south. In the north were their numbers were not sufficient they trying to gain advantage for themselves by spying on the Tamils and hiding arms in mosques. Hiding arms to attack who? The LTTE would not have touched them or bothered with them if not for these anti Tamil activities.
It is not the Tamils who have killed murdered or looted the Muslims in the island for most part they were their victims but the Sinhalese but the Muslims still want to side with the Sinhalese thinking that they are powerful than the Tamils, despite their shared origin ethnicity language and culture. You can learn any language you want no one is stopping you. The more languages you learn the better it is for you. However don’t think that by forsaking your mother tongue and learning Sinhalese only is going to give you better treatment at the hands of a racist Sinhalese unless you forsake your Muslim religion and take a Sinhalese identity, many Tamils who studied in the Sinhalese medium also learnt this bitter lesson and now regret this. By just learning Sinhalese, you still will be acceptable to the Sinhalese, unless you are willing to forsake your Tamil or Muslim religious identity and become a Sinhalese. Your argument about the fact that Sri Lanka’s key source of income is the money remitted by workers in the Middle East is true. That is why no government will take steps to antagonize the big oil rich nations.
However, you seem to be stuck in cold war mode still. Egypt which is the largest Arab nation to have diplomatic relations with Israel is thriving. They do have concerns but they are not likely to get mad at Sri Lanka for a this vote. They are facing Islamic terrorists in the Sinai. All of them view ISIS as the biggest threat to their societies. The Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan also is a very pro US stable Kingdom. It also has diplomatic relations with Israel and both nations were on the forefront of 3 major wars with Israel.
The Oil Rich Sunni nations like Saudi Arabia (KSA) and Qatar and Kuwait are still pro US. Sadly under Obama KSA and US relations have taken a nosedive but during the Bush period KSA was extremely close to the Bush regime. US has stockpiles of weapons in KSA and they have secret bases inside KSA.

Did you see any rich Sunni Arab nation being outraged ? NO. Did you see the most populous Muslim nation(it is not Arab is it?) Indonesia being outraged? Malaysia? Bangladesh or Pakistan? The third most populous Muslim nation is India and for the most part they are secular and proud to be Indian. There are roughly 172 million Muslim Indians. In contrast, KSA’s total population is only 28.3 Million. I am not sure you trying to manufacture outrage will work.
KSA is ruled by a smart set of Saud Family Royalty. They buy all their weapons from the USA; They are the single largest buyer of US weapons. Same with Qatar, Kuwait, Bahrain etc. Bahrain oppressed the SHIA majority when they asked for democracy and US went along with the fact that KSA came in through the causeway and brutally repressed the cry for democracy. There is a huge proxy war going on between Persian Shia Iran and Sunni KSA in Yemen and part of the conflict in Syria is very much the same. In Iraq, now the Iraqi army with US blessings is trying to liberate Mosul. The Iraqi army is holding back the Shia Militias(majority of Iraqis are Shias too:60 to 65%)in fear of ethnic reprisals in case Mosul is liberated from the Wahabi ISIS savages who wanted to establish a Caliphate. Muslim Turkey is a secular nation and is also involved in the fight against ISIS. Syria is a complex situation so right now the Arab world is not looking at Palestine. Yes a root cause is Imperialism and how France and Britain drew up borders artificially to create some of those nations that are imploding now. But KSA is not interested in anything other than their own vested interests. And they CHOSE to be with the US like Qatar, Kuwait, Bahrain, UAE.
I think you insult the intelligence of Muslims across Asia(not Arabs) if you start equating Islam with Arabism. If we accuse Israel then is it not fact that the Arab population was so gullible to become part of ISIS if Israel did it? does it not make the Arabs stupid? The Palestinian question is not going to be solved soon. Until that time, there will be many resolutions in the UN where GoSL will have to vote wisely.

In today’s world, particularly in the highly volatile Middle East, Muslims are killing Muslims. The Sunni-Shia divide is the worst culprit and has caused the deaths of many millions. The carnage continues.
These Muslims are escaping – not to near empty Arab countries but to the
crowded Christian West. Like the Malays Indonesians Turks Iranians various Indian Muslims Pakistanis , Chinese, African and European Muslims. Even the Arabs have correctly classified the Sri Lankan Muslims as a people not of Arab descent but South Asian converts to Islam. basically Tamil Hindus who converted to Islam over the centuries. A few hundred Arab traders did visit the shores of then Tamil South India and western Sri Lanka over a span of a few centuries, they came as traders and also converted. very few of them settled and even if they did they would have taken a local Tamil women and then after a few years left. These few hundred Arabs who came over a span of a few centuries could never have produced the almost 17 million Muslims now found in Kerala Tamil Nadu and in Sri Lanka. More than 99% of them are descended from largely low cast Hindus who converted to Islam largely to escape the caste system or in come cases through force. Like what happened during the era of Tippu Sultan when many Hindu upper castes were forced to convert to Islam in the north of Kerala and parts of Tamil Nadu. Brahmins. Nairs , Nambiars Pillais ETC and as a sign and proof of their conversion they were all forced to eat beef. Now all their descendants in Sri Lanka are Tamil no more but Arabs crying out for Palestine and everyone in the Gulf but taking great pleasure in the killing and marginalisation of their fellow non Muslim Tamils in the island.
