Tamil Deportees And Torture Issue Raised In UK Parliament

By Colombo Telegraph

Gareth Thomas MP yesterday made an emergency ‘Point of Order’ in the House of Commons to raise his concerns about the Human Rights Watch report about Sri Lankan deportees allegedly being tortured on return from the UK.

Gareth Thomas

Gareth Thomas (Harrow West) (Lab/Co-op): On a point of order, Mr Speaker. Human Rights Watch has recently published further evidence of failed Tamil asylum seekers who have been deported from the UK by the UK Border Agency being tortured on their return to Sri Lanka. The whole House wants to ensure that this country has strong immigration policies in place, and that they are adhered to, but it will surely also be concerned about those reports of torture. Have you heard of any possibility of a written statement from the Home Secretary, seeking to clarify her policy on the deportation of Tamil asylum seekers in the light of that new evidence?

Gareth also tabled 3 Parliamentary Questions as follows:

1.     To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs, what representations he has made or instructed to be made to prevent the use of torture on those Tamil asylum seekers deported from the UK; and if he will make a statement.

2.     To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs, how many Tamil asylum seekers deported by the UK Border Agency since May 2010 he estimates have been the victims of torture by Sri Lankan security services after their deportation from the UK; and if he will make a statement.
3.     To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department, what assessment she has made of the risk to failed Tamil asylum seekers of being tortured by Sri Lankan security services after deportation from the UK; and if she will make a statement.

It is only few people are fighting for Asylum and refugees’ rights, Garath is one of them. We salute you Garath!

What a load of nonsense! All politicians in the UK, in particular London, know exactly how important the Tamil vote is! Much of the Tamil community in the UK have been placed there tactically by the LTTE to carry out its dirty deeds including propaganda. Arguments such as ‘Tamils in UK are not supporting there own asylum seekers since there are well settled’ are aimed at the general public in the hope that they do not understand the ins and outs of the issues at hand. Fortunately in recent times the British media has reported on tactics used by illegal organisation the world over to get into countries such as the UK, including student visas and arguments of asylum. The problem for these movements, and politicians who depend on their votes, is therefore the fact that the public is fast becoming more aware of the corruption and back scratching going on between politicians and illegal global movements.

If I was an LTTE propaganda artist, I would stop treating the western public as fools, and start to actually at least pretend to aknowledge the facts! Treating those who you depend on so desperately to support your dirty deeds as stupid, is in itself stupid!

Gareth Thomas has depended on the vote of the Tamils in Harrow to creep into parliament. He could not care about human rights of law. If he did he would not have voted for launching an illegal war on Iraq when he was in the last Labour Government. His only concern is surviving an election and holding on to his seat. He was a member of a government that is responsible for the killings and sectarian violence Iraq is going through.

At least he remembers the people who voted for him and is grateful to them and defends their interests. A good example of Sri Lanka politicians they think of the voter only till they go to the ballot box. After winning they forget those who voted and start filling up their pockets and work only for their families and their henchmen.

It is write to draw attention to the UK govt of their double standard while talking war crimes in Sri lanka and then to deport TAMILS to Sri Lanka where they face fear of being tortured. Please do not compare the British MP’s with Sri Lankan politicians. Look what happened at East after winning the election Mr Hakeep betrayed his own commun ity and also look at the way the govt tried to PURCHASE the members of TNA , UNP and Muslin Congress. The Govt has succedded in PURCHASING thr Muslim Congress who has made a historical blunder. BRUTUS?
