All the drama about “will he won’t he” is now over. He will and he has, President Sirisena has been compelled to give nomination to Ex President Mahinda Rajapaksa from the UPFA (the coalition that has a majority in parliament) for the forthcoming general election.
Whilst a loud cry of AIYO SIRISENA ! Will be emanating from certain quarters, there could also be another “take” on this. Rajapaksa and his cohorts have been making loud noises about how they can win if given nomination. Now the bluff is called. Nomination is given and the voter of this Country will decide. That after all is what democracy is about isn’t it? It also reverts to an underlying principle or judgement on democracy that says “a Country will get the government or governance that it deserves”.
What seat will he contest? Will this lead to further dissatisfaction among the UPFA or SLFP ranks? It is presumed that Hambantota the major Bastian (in the eyes of the family) of Rajapaksa power will be contested by the Son. If not it could lead to a split in the family! Presumably a “safe” seat either Ratnapura or if Ego dictates Anuradhapura (neighbouring seat of the incumbent president) may be chosen. If so what about those who have worked those seats all their lives and in most cases murdered to retain them? These murderers and unprincipled rogues will have to be placated and more compromise and money will have to be exchanged. Meanwhile the populace will watch on!
A masterstroke in meticulous planning by Ranil Wickremesinghe and his think tank has been spotted. Knowing the inherent intelligence or is it cunning, of the planners it may be presumed that this counter stroke would also have been anticipated and another measure would be in place, That measure could be a real “falling out among thieves” when decisions have to be made by those who have been bluffing about how they plan to practically carry out their plans to bring about this dream of theirs. This dream to continue mis – governance, catcherism and corruption.
It is sometimes inadvisable to push desperate people too far. The gun culture that is never too far away from them could result in assassinations and deaths of irreplaceable leaders. We have seen this before and suffered for many years as a result.
After all the very existence and almost certainly the freedom of the Rajapaksa contingent depends on the decisions that have to be made over the next few days. If they can con the populace to give them enough votes they can make an attempt to drag out the various charges that are against them for long enough for them to be lost in time.
This reminds me of how average citizen Joe keeps buying a Lotto ticket each week and dreaming until the day of the Lotto draw, what is going to do with the millions he will win. When he doesn’t he has to buy another ticket and dream again…. it keeps him going and keeps him out of mischief.
The Rajapaksa dreamers have to contend with President Sirisena, should they pull off a “Lotto win” and between the incumbent president, Ranil Wickremesinghe and others who stand for GOOD in our Country, an intelligent and educated voter base and all the Devas’ I am confident that “Raja Bhavthu Dhammiko” will prevail.

Now we know for sure with the leaked COPE report (Google: “draft-interim-report-on-treasury-bond-issue-leaked”) that it is Ranil and the UNP who are the real criminals. The COPE report which contains interviews of Central Banks staff, clearly shows Mahendren intervening with Central Bank staff to favor the placement of bonds with his nephew at billions of extra dollars in expense to the treasury because of the bloated interest rates. In fact, the COPE report shows Mahendran had specific knowledge of the exact amount of his nephew’s bid (Rs. 20.708 billion) and instructed his staff to accept all bids at this exact amount. This clearly is sufficient evidence to arrest and charge Mahendran with the serious crime of securities fraud and insider trading, which would require his immediate dismissal as the Central Governor.

President Maithripala Sirisena is expected to make another U-turn with regards to the decision on giving former President Mahinda Rajapaksa nominations to contest the Parliament elections.
An official in the President’s office, who was to resign over Sirisena’s decision to give Rajapaksa nominations, had later held back his resignation after receiving an assurance that Sirisena may make another u-turn.
Sirisena had already this week announced he will not be giving nominations to Rajapaksa but later yesterday the United People’s Freedom Alliance (UPFA) said the President had agreed to give the former President nominations.
However now, sources say the President is expected to reverse that decision following pressure from several Sri Lanka Freedom Party members and those who helped him win the January 8 Presidential election.
Several United National Party members also said they still had faith in President Sirisena and do not expect Rajapaksa to be formally given nominations for the August 17 election

Ranil will do the economic policy changes if he is in a position to get a majority.
MARA and the gang have to be given credit for the end of the conflict. Reconciliation is still pending and hopefully will happen in time to come.
MARA and the gang have no clue about economic development. A boom in construction is not development.
Living conditions of people have to improve and the only way to do it is through employment creation and an export oriented economy. Ranil will deliver this if he wins.
We have to move away slowly from a subsistence based economy.

Going by reality a 6.2 million voted to oust MR at the last election because they clearly felt the need to get rid of the Dictator. This 6.2 mil was not a coerced vote with promises. They were who really saw through MR’s bluff. Therefore I doubt very much any single one would want to vote MR ever again, although some MR supporters who pretend to have voted MS make comments in this blog to give the impression that they are dissatisfied with MS and will vote MR this time around. This is not the case. On the contrary of the 5.8 mil MR received, there is quite a number who were coerced, forced, feared, bribed, threatened and cheated to vote for MR. Besides there are many who had no knowledge of MR and his cohorts like Sajin Vass, Gota, Basil, Namal, Nevard Cabral and many others who have swindled Public funds which has come to light now and they no longer will vote for MR again. Further this election being to elect MPs and not only MR, the chances of electing the Corrupt and the violent of the UPFA is a distant dream to any sensible voter other than the blind MR supporters. Now that MR has successfully prevailed on Susil Premajayantha and Anura Priyadharshana Yapa the Secrataries of the UPFA and the SLFP respectively to defy MS and support MR rather than risk a future govt of the UNP for them to be exposed for scrutiny and likely prosecution. The current scenario is definitely going to alienate the lot of the SLFP like Sarath Amunugama, SB Dissanayake, Arjuna Ranatunge, Rajitha Senaratne, et al from contesting under the UPFA under MR.
