The Malaiyaha and Ceylon Tamils and Muslims have only one job to do: rescue the Sinhalese people from their self-destructive lunge towards authoritarianism.
They achieved this historic task in 2015; they pulled the country back from the political precipice with a little help from residual UNP’s Sinhalese voters. But the Sinhalese-Buddhist elite and its doting masses ignominiously failed to build on the foundation laid by the Malaiyaha and Ceylon Tamils and Muslims.[1]
There is absolutely no need to compound the Sinhalese-Buddhist elite’s tragic errors. The 13-Point demand by Tamil civil society and politicians does exactly that – it adds fuel to the fire.
What is the purpose the 13 Demands? Whether the Sinhalese presidential candidates agree to all or some or none of the demands is utterly irrelevant. After the election the new president will continue to pander to Sinhalese extremism simply to ensure his political survival.
So why insist on promises that will be betrayed surely as the sun will rise in the east the following morning?
We have seen the trend from the 1994 to 2015 presidential elections. Malaiyaha and Ceylon Tamils and Muslims may decide the winner but nothing more after the election.
The 13 Demands are empty rhetoric. They are, at best, face saving excuses trotted out by some Tamil politicians to cosy up to one or another presidential candidate in the desperate hope of a post-election payoff, which is nothing more than a mirage.
Malaiyaha and Ceylon Tamil and Muslim voters again have to drag the nation back by the scruff of its neck from the authoritarian political abyss into which most Sinhalese-Buddhist voters are blindly shoving the country. The backward Sinhalese-Buddhist forces are bribing, blackmailing and threatening Tamils and Muslims to prevent them from salvaging the country.[2]
For their own survival, Malaiyaha and Ceylon Tamil and Muslim voters must repeat their 2015 rescue operation by voting for the candidate who is capable of winning as well as who will inflict least damage upon the people.

Right on Mr. Sathanandan: along with identity politics – religious and ethnic, gender and LGBTQ, USA paid local politicians uses human rights, peace building, and reconciliation “discourse” and local NGOs- to divide, distract and manipulate the populations and public in countries they want to colonize: From Afghanistan to Bolivia to Haiti, and much of the Middle east and Africa, the US with its fake Human Rights and reconclliation discourse and NGO projects has manipulated ethnic, religious, gender and LGBTQ networks with corrupt local politicians, to divide and ensure regime change and have their favorite dictator in power, and Lankan citizens must be aware of how this strategy of using gender and sexuality with Ranil’s gay network to work for US interests is very instructive.
This is not against LGBTQT folk or identity politics but to be aware of the US and its future attempts to weaponize religion and ethnicity as it did with the Easter Sunday Carnage.

Succinctly summarized. They say Sinhalaya Modaya, Sinhala are fools and certainly need help fro other to prevent doing foolish things.
Why are the Sinhala fools? Is it their low men IQ of 79? How come the Tamils and Muslims are not such fools? What has happened to the common sense of the Sinhala?
Is it Para-Sinhala Para-“Buddhism” , that is a distortion of Buddhism and an Insult to the Buddha,m which Gota and the Rajapaksa Mafia is exploiting

The minority, especially the Tamils and Muslims, must vote for the candidate who has promised unity. Politicians cannot be trusted, but at least the minority knows fully well what the previous regime did for them – that would be nothing. Think of who supported the minority, who worked with racist monks, and who did nothing when the violent mobs went around the country, terrorizing the minority, and avoid voting for them.

A well thought article. At this juncture of politics there is a need for saving the country from a group thugs and criminals who destroyed the SLFP and Srilanka. Sinhalese are in the dark with full of lies over lies and they are slaves to these thugs and criminals headed by Mahinda Family. Therefore it is the responsibility of Tamils and Muslims to unite and save the country first. So, we have to vote too Sajith. Of course Sajith or his party is not going to solve the problems we Tamils and Muslims face but if the country falls apart we all have to suffer and there is no future. Mahinda has already bought some of our people and Mahinda promised them ministerial posts for them but never said they will solve our problems. TNA may have not done much to get from the UNP but Mahinda Family did more damage to us than any political leadership. Mahinda had the opportunity(two third majority, war victory) to do something but he did more damage to us and continue to more damage. Think rationally, this is not voting to TNA, it is a vote against a dictator.

NPC controlled by Wellala politicians returned money to treasury without using that money to improve the living conditions of Demala people.

Gotabaya himself accepted that it is Sarath Fonseka who won the war with LTTE, not Mahinda Family. It is Pirabhaharn who fought against Indian army who came to protect the former Chief minister Varatharajah Perumal who declared “Eelam” when they were going back to Srilanka. Do you know why Gotabaya brought back Vartharajah Perumal who is a Indian CIA agent? Do you know why Gotabaya was brought the Easter Bomb blast mastermind Hisbullah? Do you know what agreement Gota made with USA? Mahinda sold half of Srilanka to China and now Gota signed agreement to sell rest to USA?
There is nothing agreed on Federal constitution but what they said that they will discuss the Mahinda’s proposals which is a federal constitution.

I agree with you on that. It is not only Sinhala politicians but Tamil politicians also who are to be blamed for being so aggressive. Whatever happened to patience? Progress has been made towards a more united Sri Lanka but progress has been slow. We need more patience.
I disagree that we were ‘brought back from the precipice” in 2015: that is you opinion, and the legally entitled voters who voted for MR were not criminals, simply exercising their rights. For those who don’t like democracy when it does not go their way – authoritarianism seems to be the answer, to stop those on the other side voting for their candidate that you do not like.
We will not have better politicians until we have better voters. So voter education is the key.
