Video: Rajapaksa Siblings’ Rugby Thuggery Echoes Their Past

Although many political analysts claim that the Rajapaksa clan have taken a backward stance in the upcoming elections, the recent video sent by a Colombo Telegraph stringer at concluded rugby match played two days ago shows that they have not yet given up.

In a video footage captured after the concluded rugby encounter played between Navy SC and CH & FC, the Rajapaksa siblings are seen involved in a fisticuff altercation on the rugby field.

This shows that the Rajapaksa clan are not backwards in any way and will try to muscle their way around at any cost, an observer told Colombo Telegraph.

Four years ago the youngest Rajapaksa sibling Rohitha assaulted rugby referee Dimitri Gunasekara after the Police SC knocked out Navy SC in the 7 a side tournament, the side he had captained. Rohitha Rajapaksa got a way scot-free as the Sri Lanka Rugby Football Union failed to conduct an inquiry into that incident nor reprimand him.

Violence in rugby and rivalry by players off the pitch too reached dizzy heights during the Rajapaksa regime era, which even resulted in the death of former Havelocks rugby player Wasim Thajudeen. (By Manisha Unantenne)
