The Tamil National Alliance (TNA) Parliamentary Group has decided to hand over the post of Opposition Whip to the Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP), says the TNA.

Issuing statement today the TNA said; “Accordingly, Leader of the Opposition and TNA Leader Hon. R. Sampanthan proposed to the Speaker that JVP MP Hon. Anura Kumara Dissanayake be appointed as Opposition Whip. The TNA Parliamentary Group also decided that in the absence of Hon. Sampanthan, President of the Ilankai Thamil Arasu Kadchi (ITAK) Hon. Mavai Senathirajah would act as Leader of the Opposition.”

The largest party in the opposition has the Leader of the opposition and the next leader is the opposition whip.

As for appointing PM and opposition leader, the parliament has the right to vote them out. This is a simple parliamentary rule.
As for the Chief justice, Weerawansa has the right to impeach him as the herd did to Chief Justice Shirani Bandaranayake.

I have given it Serious thought many times over,
But I live in hope , that figure UPFA got is down from 5.8 Million MaRa got ion Jan 8th which the deluded one said will never go down,yet it did.lets not not forget there existed in UPFA a small maithri faction it too got votes ,even though jarawansa & clan asked not to vote for those candidates

“Opposition Whip Post to JVP”. Did you all hear the speech this Leader gave in the Parliament debating on the proposal of the Government to increase the number of cabinet ministries? He said: “It is a shame to have brought this “First Resolution” in the 8th Parliament to get the number of cabinet positions increased, without giving any consideration to the immense difficulties faced by the farmers in selling their “Yala” harvest”. His revelations as regards those difficulties that the farmers are undergoing presently in selling the Yala harvest, brought results next day itself. The PM decided to discuss this as a matter of URGENCY with all the party leaders and give redress to those farmers. That speech on the proposal of cabinet numbers, but very cleverly brought up the problems faced by the farmers managed to bring good tidings. That I would say is how the Opposition must work and bring results to the people. Further in reference to the Government decision to use Mattala airport facilities for storing paddy, he also cautioned the Government to do things “SENSIBLY” after considering all aspects of that facility to be used for such a purposes. He did not step in to gain some publicity by merely floating with the popular views of condemning all what MR did in building that airport. That is another show of RESPONSIBILITY in handling public affairs. Don’t you think this Opposition with two of these people is moving in the correct direction of bringing a “check and balance” progress in Governmental affairs. I feel so.

Had the JVPers outreached village folks, they should have elelcted them in dozens to the parliament – even if we all like JVP theories, may be possilbe, leading parties of the nation do know more about how people are to be approached. And what go thorught the stupid minds sets of majority villagers of this country.
I wonder, had JVPers been away from Parliament, would that be easy to achieve what the OPPOSITION achieved this day. But int he end, them to be sent home is not at all fair. My only wish was at least over 12 JVPers to be seated in the parliament so that they can do a lot more service as opponents.
Unfortunatelly, virulent nation would go after MR s toilet over flowing toilet pits – without shame.
