What If The UNP Wins?

By Dayan Jayatilleka –

Dr. Dayan Jayatilleka

“There is no sense in my becoming President if I am to surrender the independence of my motherland or if I am to allow it to be divided into pieces. For the sake of remaining as President or for the sake of personal gain, I shall not betray my motherland. I have not inherited such qualities. I have no intention of passing down such a shameful reputation to my descendants either.” ~ UNP Presidential candidate Ranasinghe Premadasa, Oct 6th 1988, Sugathadasa Stadium

“However far, however close, or however powerful any nation may be, it has no right to aspire to control other nations. It has no right to dictate our policies or maintain an unwelcome presence on our soil. The blood of Sri Lankans, past and present, has not been shed to subordinate our country.” ~ President Ranasinghe Premadasa, Sept 22, 1989

Sri Lanka has to wage a national liberation struggle and is in the throes of one whether or not we are aware of it. The upcoming election is part of that national liberation struggle. Sadly the Left is not leading it. The JVP and the FSP have not studied the success of the Nepali left. Corruption is the sole issue for the JVP, and it is not explaining the neoliberal model that the UNP is trying to implement with its ghastly consequences of socioeconomic genocide. As for the FSP, it seems shy of politics, while it sees no distinction between capitalism as such and the model of neoliberalism. Neither the JVP not FSP have any time or place anymore for a project of national liberation which must embed social liberation, just as social liberation must be encased in national liberation.

Whatever one may think it is, the real importance of the upcoming local authorities election is that of a nationwide referendum on the model that Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe is implementing and seeking to entrench. What is that model? Generically it is that of neoliberal globalism, but what is it specifically and concretely? What we need to do is to envisage a model of Sri Lanka as it would be if the UNP wins and fully, speedily implements its stated policies, , the policies it has agreed to with the only ones who matter to the current UNP leadership—their international partners and interlocutors.

Going by the statements of the UNP-driven government’s leaders and the leading economic policy personalities, the model includes the oil tank farm in Trincomalee to India, the Trincomalee port to India, the Mannar-Trinco and Mannar-Kilinochchi highways to India, the Mattala airport in the Deep South to India, power over land to the Provincial Councils, large tracts of land sold to foreign corporations, a wide ranging opening up of the economy to India (ETCA), peasant agriculture reduced to 13% of the national economy, Indian manufacturing relocated to Sri Lanka and penetrating the Lankan market, bottom trawling for fish in our waters.

The implementation of the UNP leadership’s ‘neoliberal Indianist’–model will mean the destruction of Sri Lanka’s industrial-manufacturing capitalist class and base itself. It will mean the de-industrialization of Sri Lanka. It will mean the de-peasantization of Sri Lanka, a new ‘enclosure movement’ such as that caused by the colonial Waste Lands Ordinance, and resulting in a flood of pauperized and dispossessed peasants who will girdle the towns and cities in slums. It will also mean the destruction of the Sri Lankan fisheries industry and the fishing communities of all ethnicities.

The model will mean a re-colonization without the construction that colonialism effected, but with the loss of sovereignty. In our history, the Western colonialists deprived us of our sovereignty but built the roads, railroads and schools. In our current history, Mahinda Rajapaksa (supported by his brothers) restored our territorial unity and sovereignty and built the infrastructure, while the UNP has conceded our sovereignty, is not building anything and is selling the infrastructure.

It is in effect a Great Counter-Reformation, wiping out the economic, developmental and social achievements of a century if not more of Sri Lankan /Ceylonese upward mobility. The complete opening up and subjugation of all sectors of the economy to foreign capital and to market forces will deprive the Sinhalese of their lands and drive the majority of the country into poverty, ensuring that the Sinhala lower middle and working classes can never aspire to upward mobility for their children, since education too will be open to predatory market forces and foreign penetration.

Why do I say Sinhalese? Because the Sinhalese do not have rich ethnic/ethno-religious kin across the waters who will buy up the land in their provinces, nor do they have the option of relatively easy immigration to the West.

If fully implemented, the UNP’s neoliberal Indianization model will result in the social genocide of the Sinhala lower-middle, middle and entrepreneurial classes, as well as the Southern two thirds of the island (barring Colombo) throwing them back to the subaltern status of the colonial centuries.

If the UNP wins the election and implements the promises that the PM made to India in April 2017, this island will not only become an economic neo-colony of India it will once again be an occupied territory with no-go areas for locals. Already, after the onset of Yahapalanaya, an official team was disallowed into an area of the Trinco tank farm by LIOC personnel. What will the situation be when most of the oil tank farm, parts of the Trincomalee harbor and the highways are in Indian hands or have an entrenched Indian presence? Furthermore, won’t Mattala become an Indian enclave in the Ruhuna, and a no-go area for the Southerners?

The combination of (a) economic Indianism (b) strategic Indo-Americanism and (c) North East quasi-federalism will cumulatively mean a tectonic shift in resources and power away from the majority to the economic and social minorities, and a geopolitical shift of the island’s center of gravity, from the Southern two thirds to the North-eastern one third, thereby reversing the effects of democracy and universal franchise which we obtained in 1927.

The UNP is driving forward to implement this model. If it wins the election it will move swiftly on the new Constitution, weakening the center by federalizing the state and abolishing the executive presidency, transferring that power to the PM and Chief Ministers.

It cannot but generate majoritarianism and anti-Indianism. I have always stood for the most cordial and constructive relations with our neighbor, which is one reason why I have been a staunch supporter of the 13th amendment. However, one cannot have good relations with a neighbor who is trying to grab your ancestral property, which is of modest size to start with, and pauperize your children—and that is the difference between the India of the Congress and that of the BJP.

Neoliberal globalization develops unevenly and affects various sectors unequally. Neoliberal globalization benefits, or least damages, the pre-existing globally located, networked and integrated i.e. established globalized elite communities and elite Diasporas. This is more so because the West has large, electorally influential diaspora communities—some of which support separatist projects–and tend to be biased towards them. Conversely, the greater the orientation towards the Chinese model of (state-led) alternative modernity and multipolar globalization (China, Russia, BRICS, emergent/pivotal powers such as Turkey, Indonesia etc.) the more level the playing field it is for the majority of citizens of the world and this island.

In Sri Lanka, the UNP’s elitist neoliberal globalization will hit the Sinhala majority hardest and marginalize it the most, just as colonialism did! Therefore, and in the absence of a unified Left vanguard as in Nepal, the backlash will take a predominantly Sinhala majoritarian, even ethno-lingual/ethno-religious fundamentalist character.

At the highest peak of Indian civilizational prestige, that of Emperor Ashoka, India converted to Buddhism. It was no coincidence that the zenith of Indian power and prestige overlapped with the adoption of the doctrine of the greatest son of the Indian subcontinent, Gautama, the Buddha.  Together with the Greeks of classical antiquity, Buddhism was one of the two greatest philosophical products of the Axial Age.

Perhaps more importantly, Buddhism was socially far more progressive than Hinduism/Brahminism with its backward, rigid caste system. When the Hindu Counter-reformation reclaimed India, Buddhism survived in the island of Lanka to its south, which is what gave our country, and especially its southern two-thirds, a more progressive society that that of India. This is why agrarian laborers are hacked to death on selfie videos in India, and a bounty is publicly offered for the death of Deepika Padukone, South Asia’s Audrey Hepburn, without a word of remonstrance from the PM whose party stalwart made the threat. Such social atrocities do not happen in Sri Lanka. This is also why China, having experienced a revolution which swept away feudal backwardness, is doing far better than India both economically and socioeconomically.

Prof Samuel Huntington identified one of his famous civilizational ‘fault-lines’ as running through Sri Lanka: that between the Indic/Hindu and Buddhist civilizational systems. Indeed he went so far as to name Sri Lanka’s war as a “fault-line war”. If he was right, Mahinda Rajapaksa won the fault-line war for one side but Sri Lanka is about to lose the fault line war under Prime Minister Wickremesinghe by conceding a walkover and effecting a handover.

In 2001, Prime Minister Wickremesinghe proposed a land and underwater bridge which would link northern Sri Lanka with Tamil Nadu. He recycled the idea in 2015 and it was picked up by the BJP government’s Minister of Roadways, Nitin Gadkari. This means the recreation of the geographic link which, in the Ramayana, facilitated Rama’s invasion and victory over Lanka’s Ravana. It would have also linked this island with Tamil Nadu from which emanated numerous invasions and occupations which finally ruined the amazing civilizations of the Anuradhapura-Polonnaruwa period and drove our capitals ever southwards. Now with the planned give away of Mattala airport to India, which means direct power-projection and airlift capacity into our deep South, even the Ruhunu rearguard, the base area/liberated zone from which, historically, there always arose national resistance, will no longer be safe.

If Chief Minister Wigneswaran, a Hindu fundamentalist can spout the racist nonsense he does about the Tamils being the original inhabitants of this island (which falls flat when one wonders why they didn’t make for the rivers and the arable land, occupy and settle in it, as pioneers have done throughout human history), one can well imagine how he and the North will behave if and when there is a much larger Indian footprint here and we are integrated with BJP India, as Prime Minister Wickremesinghe openly envisages and committed himself to in writing in April-May 2017 in Delhi.

The implementation of neoliberal Indianism will be the ultimate existential betrayal of the island of Lanka, its option for the Buddhist civilization and its loyalty to its Buddhist heritage, when India had turned its back on it and Dharmashoka, and returned to casteist Hinduism. Lanka embraced Buddhism directly from Dharmashoka via his son Mahinda. A few decades after a Ranilist victory and we shall have been absorbed by India which is overwhelmingly Hindu. This is why those who remain allied with or vote for the elitist UNP with its neoliberal Indianism, will be guilty of and complicit in this great civilizational crime.

If we the citizens wish for or do not mind the disappearance of Sri Lanka as an single independent political entity and existential identity, not just a geographic location on a corporate map, let us by all means vote for the UNP. If not, whatever our sympathies, we have no choice but to vote massively and inflict a savage defeat on the ‘structural evil’ that is the UNP elite’s agenda.

    Dear DJ.
If UNP wines do not expect any diplomatic post ..it is all gone for you now
You and MR are old enough to retire with respect.
Your sentiment for nationalism is good but you never supported JVP which the only party that work for the true nation building process of Sri Lanka. Why not you speak about them.
Tell us more about your criticism of JVP.
    You should have asked..
What if JVP win more seat in local councils.?
    You wish them well.
You know they have more talented than any one else.
    What not you support them.

In the late 1970s and early 1980s, Cuba exported differently able people to USA along with Cuban refugees. Is there a way by which Sri Lanka could export deranged public racists to Cuba or North Korea? Maybe Sri Mao-Sasthri pact could form the legal basis and be the precedent.

        Please advise.

Dayan you have stated that Tamil claim of being the original inhabitants of the island is nonsense. First of all Tamils have never claimed to be so. The original inhabitants of the island are Veddhas and Tamils claim that they are the first immigrants to the island. It has been proved without doubt using scientific methods based on geology, archaeology, genetics and linguistics that this claim is correct. It has been proved genetically that Sinhalese have no genetic affinity to Veddhas, though there is some Veddha input into Sinhala ethnicity. Further to that it is proved that Sinhalese have greater genetic affinity to Tamils in Tamil Nadu, suggesting that they are Dravidian immigrants. The Sinhala myth of Aryan ancestry has been blown to pieces as they do not posses the typical Aryan gene, and Bengali connection has also become questionable. It is the view of linguistics that at one time everyone in Srilanka spoke Tamil or some form of Tamil (Elu is proto-Tamil) and the fact that Sinhala has borrowed Malayalam script proves that Sinhala evolved after Malayalam. The fact that the earliest Sinhala stone inscription discovered so far dates back only to 8th century corroborates with this. In contrast stone inscription in Tamil dating back to over 2000 years have been discovered. Discovery of several urn burial sites and pottery similar to those found in Tamil Nadu proves that the same people lived on both sides. To answer your question why Tamils are in dry zones, it is the same picture in South India where ethnic groups evolved later are occupying wet zones and Tamils are in mainly dry zones. You are coming out with such stupid statements as you seem to deliberately ignore the recent excavation in Settkulam which has revealed presence of a 10,000 year old civilisation.

” Tamils claim that they are the first immigrants to the island.”

You are being very polite to Tamils.
They were also Kallathonies like their Sinhalese brethren.

NV, 5000 years ago Srilanka and Tamil Nadu were a single land mass prior to sea upheaval. Therefore for a Tamil to migrate south, he can simply walk and would have not needed a “Thony”, similar to how ancient African man walked to other parts of the world including Papua new guinea. Quite correctly the first historically recorded Kallathonies are Vijaya and his 700 criminal gang the forefathers of Sinhala race.

The sea divided this island from mainland India about 14 thousand years ago when ice age came to an end.

Sankara, so what point are you trying to make. Even if all what you say is correct viz that Sinhalese have Tamil genes, that everyone in SRI Lanka spoke Tamil at some stage, stone inscriptions in Tamil pre date that of the Sinhalese; that does not change the present ethnic composition of SRI Lanka one bit. What may I ask happened in the meanwhile? Did the Tamils run away to S India? Did the minority of Sinhalese (then) vanquish the majority of the older established Tamil population which you allege ?? The present reality is different. There is a Sinhalese majority now and theyare not going to lie down an allow a culture alien to them to override. The time for prevarication is past, we have had enough of it, and now the Sinhalese await a strong Sinhala leadership to emerge out of the darkness brought about by Yahapalanya. Of course you can derive some solace by imagining mythical days of past Tamil glory in SRI Lanka and keep on dreaming.

According to genetic studies both Sinhalese and Tamils are mixed ethnic groups, where at one time Tamils became Sinhalese and Sinhalese became Tamils and also Hindus became Buddhists and Buddhists became Hindus. In ancient times all over the world, people took up the identity of ruling monarchs in order to curry favour and escape from persecution. This is true of Srilanka, and since Sinhala Buddhist kings ruled Srilanka most of the time Sinhala Buddhists have become the majority. Justice does not depend on majority though power does. Language, culture and customs of Sinhalese developed in Srilanka with foreign input mainly Tamil. This is similar to how Malayalam language culture and customs evolved. Tamils are only contesting Sinhala claim of sole ownership and rule over entire island when there is undeniable evidence of presence of Tamils in certain parts of the country, preceding the advent of a Sinhala ethnic group. This is not a dream but a reality which the international community is pressing Srilanka government to grant, which Sinhala politicians never dispute in international forums. Divine intervention will come soon to deliver justice, as you cannot hoodwink for long.

        Thanks, Percy.

Why can’t Dr Sankaralingam wake up to the fact that while he may need to get a message across to some racist Sinhalese, the majority of his audience here, on Colombo Telegraph, are different?

Dr S. knows some English, has a computer wired to the Internet and, keeps typing these boringly repetitive pronouncements. WE can ignore all that, but I’m sure that it irritates others to the point where normal people turn racist owing to this moronic iteration.

Dr Sankaralingam, the guys whom you have to persuade to drop Sinhala Chauvinism are NOT reading CT, which caters mainly to English speakers (there are the Sinhalese articles, of course). What you have to organise is something far more difficult. Get the message across to monolingual Sinhalese people in the only language that they (poor guys!) can understand.

I’m TRYING to reason with this man; the reality is that he does immense harm by seeking to ridicule those who cannot use English fluently.

Tell me, Dr S., have you ever had a few lessons in logic? I did study it a bit, and was fairly good at it. Old as we are, Gnana, I could try to teach it to you.

Quite seriously, I taught Ravinatha Ariyasinghe (our man in Geneva) GAQ Logic ages ago.

No one will take notice of what you write, granted that it makes you feel better. A country belongs to the people that live in it today and tomorrow, and to nobody else. Have n’t you read the statement in the Bible, “The children shall inherit the earth”.

      Dr. Gnana,

It is glad that you atleast accept that Veddha’s were here before anyone else. I hope by mentioning Veddha’s you also accept that the ancient Balangoda people are also part of the Veddha community and I hope that you will accept one day that Sinhalese have a connection to this Veddha community despite your rantings of Bengali origin of Sinhalese which you have taken out completely from Mahavansa.

Moreover, there is no such thing as a genetic study of Sinhalese done by a any reputed agency which indicates that Veddha’s have no connection with Sinhalese. This statement is made up by Tamil eelamist just to substantiate their claim to Sri Lanka. The same is true for Settikulam excavation. The 12,000 year old civilization is not of Tamils nor Sinhalese. These are proto Sinhalese civilization which have been unearthed in several places in Sri Lanka before.

“I hope that you will accept one day that Sinhalese have a connection to this Veddha community despite your rantings of Bengali origin of Sinhalese which you have taken out completely from Mahavansa.”

However much you kick scream and bang your head on the wall you have no basis of claim to whatever your claim is.

“Moreover, there is no such thing as a genetic study of Sinhalese done by a any reputed agency which indicates that Veddha’s have no connection with Sinhalese.”

Please cite the genetic studies of Sinhalese that you are familiar with. Could you name a reputed agency to do yet another genetic study just to convince you. You are simply part of the extended families of south India.

Give it another twenty years and the Sinhalese will have a deep connection to the Arabic world at the rate Sri Lanka is sending women to the Middle East.

      • 3
        0

Shenali. your denial of any genetic study of Sinhalese done by any reputed agency demonstrates your low IQ of inability to search for facts. One study was done by Colombo medical faculty with New castle Univ. and other by Kelaniya Science faculty with Bangkok Univ. Find out the identical result of the two genetic studies conducted, which say that neither the Sinhalese nor Tamils have genetic affinity to Veddhas. Core genetic material in Sinhalese is south Indian and not of Veddha, which throws out your claim. The Mahavamsa claim of Bengali origin may not be quite true, but there is something in it as Sinhalese have a 26% genetic input from Bengalis. Can you let us know about ancient civilisation unearthed in Srilanka other than urn burial sites and Balangoda excavation which found stone and iron tools similar to those found in Africa attributed to ancient humans. Do not be in haste to conclude about the civilisation in Settikulam. Proto-Sinhala what you are talking about is Dravidian and nothing else. Recently they unearthed a vey ancient civilisation in Tamil Nadu, and the central government has put a stop to further study by cutting off funds and transferring the chief archaeologist to Assam. This is exactly what is happening in Srilanka as the Sinhala racists like you do not want the truth to come out to rubbish the 2500 year Sinhala civilisation.

I am not sure about Dr. Gnana Sankaralingam, however I know for sure Dr Mahinda Rajapaksa (LLD), Dr Gotabhaya Rajapaksa (DSc), Dr Sarath Weerasekere (PhD) …………………. were honoured with LLD, DSc, PhD …. respectively for killing innocent civilians, by honourable, educated, scholars of University of Colombo and University of Kelaniya.

FYI Dr Gota (DSc) received a Masters degree on Defence Studies from the University of Madras in 1983, just after he ran away from Army. He couldn’t stand the heat of Bata clad baby brigade. You should demand him to return it to the toilet Nadu university of Demelas.

The Visva Bharati University of Calcutta in India conferred on him the title Professor Emeritus for his record on human rights.

        Brilliant isn’t it?

I got a doctorate from Colombo University for exposing the fake Sinhala history. In this modern world, only people of low IQ like you will believe the true history of Srilanka about male lion mating with a human female to produce Sinhala race, Buddha making three flying visits and set of criminals landing in the island hand picked and blessed by Buddha to civilise the people of Srilanka.

          Gnana, now this is interesting!

Do you really mean to say that you’ve got a PhD? From which Department?

You’ve GOT to give us a response to this question. I know that you’ve got at least an MBBS, and I’ve had to come to your rescue when some idiots claimed that without a PhD you cannot call yourself “Dr”. That was cruel, because I’ve been given to understand that for all your eccentricities you’ve been a conscientious Medical man.

But “doctorate” has to mean a PhD in the English understood everywhere in the world.

          I feel pity for you!

Sinhala Man, you echo the sentiments of all sensible people.

UNP has been a disappointment; a great one. But anything else is to court disaster.

The UNP has to cleanse its stables. Really they need to, with honour and sincerity. Some big (and heavy) personalities will fall. They have to, because it is the country that matters; not the individual.

They should emulate President Sirisena at least in ushering in an intelligent, educated young man to succeed Ranil. The theory of seniority based promotion to the apex is sheer rubbish.

Thanks, Justice and Fairplay, for hitting on my little comment as one that sounds sensible.

I started looking at the web an hour ago; listened to My3’s full speech first. You may have heard it before you commented.

Democracy is not easy. Each of us counts so little, but put together what we think and say matters.

Yes, let’s hope that something positive emerges.

I am thinking how all these rhetoric relates to on coming municipal elections. Rural people can not understand these deep layers of politics. Instead, expose who Ranil wickramsinghe is and his behaviour as a Mafia boss and his mafiosi colleagues who became economic hitmen to the country. when they emptied the banks, when they paid high interest rates for long term borrowing money (it was not short term urgent needs) and when the scame was exposed, foreigners withdrew their investments in sri lanka which reduced it by 50%. Public had to pay high interest rates and high taxes in order to pay off the lost. Sri lanka’s growth was said to be 0.0% and even the SL Central bank contradicts it, World bank had said, sri lanka’s growth will be worse in the coming year. that is 2018. HOw about are you to accuse sinhala people for long they were saying, they can live rice and pol sambola. Now, people have to wait until the ship comes for rice, coconut, chillie pepper and oinion. Sri lanka can produce only sea salt. How about people abandoning their peasant farms, not only drought, cheap fertilizer made the peasants kidney patients, paddy production is I think getting expensive. At lest vegetable production went down and people let the produce dry on the crop as it was too expensive. those are the things that should be explained. PM, finance minister, Central Bank governor, are most important people in the country. they all found to be robbers. None are yet terminated. another well known man Parasathasarathi is still working for Ranil.

If UNP wins this municipal elelction, there should be humongous gap in how information is taken or given to the rural sri lankans. then the news media is to be blamed why they did not inform that the PM, his finance minister are bank robber mafia. His foreign minister has another sinister agenda. PM pretends to be a nut case but it is not a he is very siniste and is a calculated Mafia leader,. voters are not dumb. Media companies, not the journalists, may be not informing.

In the west, several elections were won by unexpected parties because of the social media. Media companies support the all boys club. but, social media users are looking for the truth. So, use social media to inform that who Ranil and his gang of Mafiosis are and how they destroyed the country for the last 3 years and Ranil’s past. Even CBK fired him. Ranil is a 4 times PM because, he doe snot resign and he hangs onto it like a Leech.

Singhalese Pandit: You are advising DJ not to expect any Diplomatic Posting. You seem to be quite unaware of this man’s capabilities. To say it in the most understood terms among the Singhalese is: He is a “BULTY KING”. He knows how to TURN any “Turn of Event” to his own benefit. That is his “RECORD”.

“What if the UNP wins ” is the headline of Dee Jay’s article. One need not read the rest of the trash. If Ranil or for that matter Sirisena wins it will result in two absolute certainties.

    A) The Rajapaksa clan in its entirety will be consigned to the dustbin of history

B)Along with that poor Dayan’s long step ambition of becoming Foreign Minister (he often tells friends that he would be a better FM than Kadirgamar and that he has a greater intellect than Henry Kissinger) would be dashed for ever.

It is therefore certain that many a great ego will bite the dust come February 2018.

For now , like the worm in hot water ,DJ will try every trick in his book and that includes getting that utter dud Gota to sit in front of DJ’s bookshelf and record a speech. That recording appears on CT columns above.Oh to what lengths these buggers go!

Hela survived Indians before. The laws of karma are in the favour of the rural masses- who have lived moral lives unlike those who seek to destroy the nation for short term gain.

The so-called Intellectual might do a 180-degree turn. Shameless Guy, the only agenda was to slander Ranil. For heaven’s sake please don’t join the UNP. We hate you, Vimale (Viagra Madam) and Gommanpila

Or you may have to put up with Tamil Nadu Mark II in this island.
I am sure you will survive by converting back to Tamil Saivas.

          Remember Bangladesh.

What riots are you talking about. Islamic fanatics like Ralli Ameen, Radical Ideas, Jehan and Mohmad are saying that children of Moses are going to set off a riot in Srilanka against Muslims. Do not be sure, it may be that Tamil Nadu people would walk to Srilanka the home of the deranged, and it will be a total job.

Dayan wonders loudly ~ “What if UNP wins?”
Is not Dayan worried like hell? And showing it too! Dayan will never ever win at Poker.
We, the :Lankan silent majority never considered a government without UNP.
We do not want the White-van transport service or any pogroms.

Remember unp was in opposition for 20 years and do not have president for 25 years. Unp only have 2.8 million votes in srilanka while mahindas modern slfp has 6 million votes.unp always depends on small parties and 900,000 floating voters in srilanka. If unp has to fight with modern slfp they want to have a support of jvp 600,000 votes , Tna with 700,000 votes, muslim congress witj their 500,000 votes. Jhu+ digambaram + rishad+manoganeshan+fonseka even with 26000 votes. Unp people are writing comment for their mental satisfaction for the their failiure to do not have a presidency for 25 years. Unp dors not have the sinhalese business community support.all the high class business figurs are mahindas people. in one comment there is opinion why mahinda was lost sine dayan jayathilaka is writing comments against unp.the question is why then unp does not have presidency for 25 years. Modern slfp is the party won 2/3 in under the propostional electal system. Unp is the party unable to get at least 113 seats while 1.1 million of mahindas voters didnot vote, all the parties like jhu, digambaram, muslim congress contested with unp as a alliance And 900, 000 floating voters voted for them.if in a maximum favourable situation unp cant win even a simple majority how they are going to win a.presidential election.in 2020 election if gotabaya contested apart from the 6 million voters of their own most of the new voters from the 1.3 million who going to cast their first vote in 2020 will cast their vote for him . The utterly failed neo liberal economic management they will lose the floating voters as well. Even with out any floatong vote gotabaya can win this election with huge margin. After this unp comment makers will console their mind saying not only slfp we also have some votes in srilanka for another 25 years.

      2

Only one Think i have to correct in my comment is the utterly failed liberal economic management of Unp they will not get any floating vote which were casted in last election for unp.this floating votes also will go to gotabaya. This floating votes which were casted to unp to establish democracy last time which will cast to gotabaya to built the srilankan economy again since modern slfp with gotabaya are masters in neo liberal economic management Where unps utterly poor area is neo liberal economic management

“Mr.Rjapakse restored our territorial unity ” My foot! Just because MR has won the war with the aid of India, China, and the world in short ,it does not mean that he has achieved UNITY .If the unity was achieved there is no need for the Army to remain such large numbers in the north/east.. No need for the lands occupied by the army to be continued, no need of subtle and open colonization, no need of pansalas to be erected to annoy the Tamils and lastly no need to Cremate hamuduru in the open, close to Hindu temples and the area used by a thousands daily. It is clear indication of the arrogant army in occupation.
If Wigneswaran asking for equality and federalism is Racism and if Sinhalese asking for Sinhala only and colonization is nationalism there should be more Racist like Wigneswarans to safe guard the Tamils. Sampanthan and Sumanthiran PC should cover their heads with the LION FLAG and bury themselves in the sand. Ranil was considered the Architect of the division of the LTTE and he appears to be successful in Dividing the TNA. Unfortunately TNA has a soft corner for UNP and invariably they are cornered in such a manner that they cannot extricate themselves.

Reality is hitting the man. UNP WILL WIN the Local govt election. Mister 10 Percent is plotting to get MR humiliated and taking over. Gota is the only choice Lankans in the South will accept. But bye bye SLFP & MR teams. Ranil will be our Next President and we will become part of Greater India with the rude and crude Hindians and their arrogant ways. You see that everywhere now. At Shangri-La a boorish couple was rude and mean to the spa people. At Odel they were nasty. Bloody arrogant Indians. They will do anything in the West, but come to Ceylon and they act like they are Maharajas of yore. But reality is we will become part of greater india. Not even 2000 years of invasions managed to do that. In 1947 a lot of the top Indian Congress leaders wanted to absorb Ceylon. As a Ceylonese Tamil I find Indians appalling. Even Tamil Nadu top people are arrogant.

But unfortunately innocent unp only has 2.8 million votes no.the modernslfp of mahinda has 5.8 million votes no. If with slmc and digambaram they can get another 800,000 votes. Do you think the 900000floating voters of srilanka will vote again for party like unp who led by jr or premadsa who never handled a economy more than 15 billion usd and do not know how to handle a neo liberal economy while the modern slfp the architects and masters of neo liberal economy is in the ground. Whn i was in a blue ship company during mahindas period we are getting 3 months salary as bonus in december.now . During mahindas period our live standard was very high.now we are not getting bonus No. 80 percent of srilankan middle class is voting for modern slfp high tec neo liberal economic policy and their economic management. We cant be like some innocent unp people who are saying we will vote unp even we do not have proper food under unp government as usual. That because of this 80% votes of srilankan middle class the modern slfp vote is closer to 6 million votes That is more than 200% of unps 28 laks vote base. Can you kindly expain me the mathematical fact how unp is going to win an election with this 2.8 million votes specialy presidential election.i will tell the answer if unp want to win this election with digambaram and slmc atleast 1.8 millionvoters of mahindas modern slfp have not to be cast their vote.

Yes, for people like Dayan , even LG election is part of national liberation
that will pave the way for him to benefit handsomely and a Leader like
R Premadasa is highly reputed for his QUOTES ON NATIONAL AND
INTERNATIONAL POLITICS ! So , the country now is in trouble and people
like YOU need to step in to free it ? Not without reason people call this
country FOOL’S PARADISE . Remember one thing Dayan , people of this
country can not be fooled anymore and specially by self-important fools !
We do have a respect for all our leaders despite their politics , so never
try to destroy it . Leave them alone , those living and dead .

FYI: Deepika Padukone was portraying a Sinhalese princess, Padmawathie, in the movie. According to historical records, she was given in marriage to a North Indian king, and became a beloved queen.

Are we also going to give away our remaining princesses, such as the best natural harbour in south Asia to Indian kings?

Dayan cannot be a Buddhist. Otherwise he will not want to propagate Sinhala Buddhists to suffer in samsara. According Buddhism we should endeavor to give up everything in life and attain nibbana not to be born again. If we follow Buddha’s teachings to the very word Sinhala Buddhists should vanish from earth sooner than later. It is up to the Mahanayaka’s to tell Dayan not to stand on our way to attain supreme bliss of Nibbana.. May be Dayan is Modern Devdath.

It is amusing that Jayatilleke quotes the ONLY president in the history of SL to supply weapons to the LTTE, which were then used by the terrorists to butcher our gallant forces and on whose watch made 600 policemen lay down arms and be slaughtered (“Road to Nandikadal”- A book every SL should read)

What a load of crap written by DJ. Definitely appears to be muddled and confused and unable to analyse reality. This is what happens when you are jobless and no one wants to employ you. Only hope for DJ survival is if MR or the rajapakse crooks get back to power and thus guy is posted to Zimbabwe to advice Mugabe on how good socialism is and the need to resurrect communism which was buried many moons ago, Live in fantasy land DJ and keep croaking as loud as you can.
