Trump’s landslide victory in last night’s election defied the expectations of many on the left, who had assumed that Kamala Harris would be a strong contender. Analysts believed Harris’s campaign would secure a diverse coalition that could build on previous Democratic gains. However, the results reveal a stark divergence from these expectations, underscoring a number of key points.
A. Minority Vote
Democrats assumed that Harris would easily capture the vast majority of minority voters, particularly Black and Latino groups. While Harris did indeed secure more Black votes than Trump, he achieved surprising gains. Preliminary data indicates Trump received 15% of the Black vote—an unprecedented figure for a Republican candidate in recent decades, as GOP support among Black voters has traditionally hovered around 8–10%. Even more striking were Trump’s inroads with Latino voters: 40% of Latinos voted for him, up from 32% in 2020. This reflects a shift in issues important to these communities, who may have prioritized economic stability and opposition to certain Democratic cultural agendas.
B. College-Educated Voters
Harris’s team anticipated a strong showing among college-educated voters, especially in suburban areas where Democrats have seen increasing support. While Harris did maintain an edge among this group, Trump managed to expand his share of college-educated voters to around 43%—a noticeable increase from 2020, when he received approximately 36%. This gain suggests that concerns about economic priorities and a perception of Democratic overreach on certain social issues may have resonated even with more educated voters.
C. Working-Class Voters
Democratic strategists aimed to win the majority of working-class voters, particularly in Rust Belt states where economic hardship has been a prominent issue. However, Trump emerged with a decisive majority among working-class voters, capturing approximately 57% of this demographic, compared to Harris’s 41%. This aligns with previous trends in which working-class voters, historically a Democratic base, have gravitated toward Republican candidates who promise to prioritize job creation and resist globalization and free trade agreements that can impact domestic industries.
D. Social and Cultural Issues
The Harris campaign leaned heavily on social issues like abortion rights and gender identity, expecting these issues to mobilize a strong base of support. But the election results indicate that these issues did not resonate with a significant portion of the electorate. Data suggests that only around 13% of voters cited abortion as a top concern, while issues such as inflation (25%) and crime (18%) ranked higher. Voters seemed to prioritize economic stability and public safety over cultural debates, signaling a rejection of what some view as “far-left” policies. Concerns over issues like women’s sports fairness and gender ideology appear to have hurt Harris among voters who felt the party was out of touch with their daily realities.
Electoral Map Upset
Trump’s success in traditionally Democratic strongholds was particularly striking. He broke through the “blue wall,” flipping key battleground states such as Pennsylvania, Wisconsin, and North Carolina. These wins underscore a broader shift in voter sentiment in regions once viewed as reliably Democratic, revealing a significant loss of confidence in the party’s ability to address bread-and-butter issues that matter to middle America.
Reflection on Harris’s Candidacy
Harris’s candidacy ultimately struggled to connect with key voting groups. Some Democratic voters voiced frustration over the party’s choice not to conduct a primary after Biden’s withdrawal, which might have allowed a broader range of candidates and viewpoints to emerge. As Trump celebrated his victory, it became clear that many felt Harris lacked the competitive edge to appeal across the spectrum, with her campaign narrowly focused on cultural issues and missing the pulse on voter concerns about the economy and everyday challenges.
The Path Forward for Democrats
For the Democratic Party, these results signal a need for serious introspection. The loss of working-class, minority, and young voters—once the cornerstone of their coalition—highlights a failure to resonate with core constituencies. A thorough analysis of the party’s strategy is essential, particularly regarding its messaging on economic policy, public safety, and social issues. If Democrats hope to win back these voters, they may need to pivot toward policies that address pressing economic challenges while finding a more balanced approach to social issues that appeals to a broader swath of the electorate.
This “red wave” has exposed vulnerabilities in the Democratic approach and could serve as a wake-up call for the party to realign its priorities if it hopes to regain the trust and support of the American people.

LS, recently a senior doctor asked “how strong are Trump’s pro-life views against abortion ?? in return I asked ” given Trump’s sordid affairs, all along, do anyone really believe that Trump never paid for an abortion in his whole life. ???”. I lived in Pennsylvania, through out, my 15 years of employment in the U.S, , because of licensing (each state requires it’s own ) . I worked mostly in University of Pittsburgh, Lehigh Valley / Allentown, and latter part in Philadelphia. During that time , I met Amish , Hispanic, Asians , ………… but never seen people of RTF’s description.( weed smoking , hippie look from 60’s culture). By the way, it’s not just me, people who worked closely with Trump during his first term, his own staff, former Generals, security personals, WH staff appointed by him, his own corporate Lawyer Conway
( his wife Kelly Ann is a confidant of Trump ), highly reputed psychiatrists , members of APA ( American Psychiatric association, Psychologist, FBI members assigned for his security cover termed Trump as a Psycho path…. Anti Social …. Sociopath, …..pathological / compulsive liar …………… . Musk who financed Trump’s campaign , offering few Millions in PA , already made few BILLIONS after election victory. Talk is , soon Trump’s truth Social will merge with Elon’s X.

Hello Ramona,
Can you imagine Joe Biden strolling round Haight-Ashbury smoking a Joint and listening to The Velvet Underground “Waiting for My Man”? I doubt if he even listened to Otis Reading “Sitting on the Dock of the Bay” and certainly not Hendrix “Hey Joe”.
As one writer said “The past is a Foreign Country” and for a young Joe Biden the above world was a foreign country. Nowadays he tells lies that he was involved in Civil Rights Activism – https://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2023/jul/25/joe-biden-again-falsely-claims-role-civil-rights-a/
Where was Joe when many American students were protesting against the Vietnam War? This is how they were dealt with at Kent State University on 4th May 1970 (4 dead, shot by the National Guard) https://www.npr.org/2024/05/04/1249023924/kent-state-shooting-activists-protests-survivor
Read a bit of history before you comment on Biden being a product of this “flower-power era”. He barely knew of its existence.
Best regards

ramona therese fernando / November 7, 2024
LS……even if he didn’t spout the hippie look and smoke a joint or two, Biden used the 60’s cultural era as the philosophy for American progression…….open borders, everybody come to the big daddy, experimentation for all with love, peace, and dancing the Hari Krishna……all rolled into business opportunity and empire building. Only drove up inflation and horrified those of regular family life.

Hello Ramona,
Like I said before, you live in a different Universe. My Father drove across the US from Coast to Coast in the late 60s and then again in the mid 70s. My Cousins live in California and Florida. I visited Oklahoma and Texas in 1980 and traveled around quite a bit. I was working on the Design of Drilling Instrumentation whilst I was there and met many from various parts of the US. My Stepson is an Export Manager for an Apparel Company and has been to Los Angeles on 2 occasions and is shortly going back.
None of us would recognise your description of the USA. Maybe you have been doing the things Joe Biden didn’t.

It is good for the world peace that Trump won. His no nonsense approach will tell America’s detractors where to get off. US will now take a decisive and strong stand to support Israel. This will fulfil Biblical prediction that Israel will receive divine assistance and that all their enemies will be defeated.
/
Jit / November 8, 2024
What do you smoke these days GS? How can “….a decisive and strong stand to support Israel….” will lead to global peace? Isnt that what Biden already been doing, and has peace dawned in the ME? And your “dawn of peace” means Natanyahu invading every inch in the ME bombing and killing innocent people?

Rally! The genocide of poor Palestinian Arabs and their large-scale ethnic cleansing is good? Mad crazy nasty Putin handed rewarded with 20% of Ukranian land, with his illegal war and occupation legalized? Man, you must be bonkers.
/
ramona therese fernando / November 8, 2024
Other lot also took a strong stand to support Israel and gave them over 17-billions of dollars of military aid. Trump will be more creative and establish the Palestinian state. If he wants Gaza as real estate, he will install the Israelis in some parts of Gaza, and relocate the Palestinians to the West Banks and Golan heights and other prime areas.
/
davidthegood / November 8, 2024
rtf, Palestinians are already living peacefully in West Bank. It is when they terrorise like Arafat’s Fatah that Netanyahu will act against them. Trump will never have a 2 state solution. Israel will never have Golan heights occupied by those who attack Israel from there to war against. Need to avoid bad history repeating attacks from Golan heights. US can’t relocate Palestinians.
/
LankaScot / November 8, 2024
Hello DTG,
What do you call the Bulldozing of Houses and Roads in the West Bank? Or what about the illegal detention of the Palestinians there? More than 3,300 Palestinians are still being held in Israeli prisons without trial or charges. Here is a quote from one recently released Detainee “I spent the following 253 days in detention without charge, without ever being told why this was happening to me” No “habeas corpus” for Palestinians. The Israelis are even using Air Strikes – “A series of Israeli raids and airstrikes in towns and villages in the occupied West Bank that stretched overnight from Monday into late Tuesday have killed at least eight people, according to Palestinian authorities and local residents. https://edition.cnn.com/2024/11/05/middleeast/west-bank-attacks-eight-dead-intl-latam/index.html
According to OCHA, between 7 October 2023 and 21 October 2024, 732 Palestinians have been killed in the West Bank, including East Jerusalem”. Read this report – https://www.unocha.org/publications/report/occupied-palestinian-territory/humanitarian-situation-update-204-west-bank Even the US has sanctioned the Illegal Israeli Settlers for their Criminal Actions in the West Bank.
So how do you justify your statement “Palestinians are already living peacefully in West Bank”?
Best regards

LankaScot, don’t be a silly fool about basic knowledge. Messiah is Jesus Christ. Trump is a flawed human but God is able to use him if available like in 2017 when Trump made Jerusalem the capital of Israel, for the return of Jesus Christ and brought the US Embassy to Jerusalem from Tel Aviv. I must say Trump moves well with Putin, Xi of China and Kim Jong Un of North Korea, as well as other leaders.

Times have indeed changed in the USA.
Sri Lanka is a different kettle of fish and a developing country with a culture of impunity since independence and massive corruption dominated by very few families.
What is needed is a constitutional change limiting elected members of political office to term and age limits. Fortunately the country does have a good educational system and bright younger population to fit in and prevent the prevailing political culture to continue.
This is a very practical way to say good bye to the prevalent political culture.

Ramona Fernando,
The millions of unskilled immigrants coming across the border, then being bused to cities all over the country. The high inflation. The war in Gaza. Biden did nothing to restrain Israel (and I am a supporter of Israel). Also, trying to force innocent young children to accept LGBTQ, when they should be learning arithmetic and algebra. Kamala would have continued said policies. That is why voters gave her the finger. Celui qui n’avance pas recule – move forward or fall behind. By the way, now is a great time to invest in US markets as Trump will cut corporate income taxes , leading to massive share buybacks. Elon Musk is the economic advisor.

Imtiyaz , you are right with the post elections analysis. If I may add few,
1) Democrats should have made a much earlier call on Biden’s candidacy ( by the midterms) not days before nomination or after a miserable debate performance 2) Electing an alternate candidate in the 11th hour is unprecedented in any political history 3) Kamala may have potential, but
lacked experience and advice. Instead of addressing major election issues, from the word go , she dragged until, it was too late 4 ) she couldn’t even be her own , separate self from Biden’s policies or tell the difference, The very first time when asked about her own plans in addressing voters issues,.she replied “there is no need for any real change in current Biden policies “. She was playing nice to her boss and party seniors instead , being her own. This dosen’t work anymore in US politics.
/
chiv / November 7, 2024
The major issues identified were economy/ inflation, border security, immigration, birth/ abortion rights and preserving democracy. Obviously the last two, are of least concern to voters ( ??? ). Last but not least, years ago, when Obama was first introduced in party convention as future Dem star, in our family discussion , I opined that US is “not ready for a black president” every male present in the room , in chorus replied ” you’re wrong , US is not ( never ) ready for a female as their President “. They were right and I m wrong 😉

Imtiyaz, your profile says that you’re affiliated to U. Penn. Considering your familiarity with that state , I’m sure you would have noticed the voting pattern in large cities including Phily, suburbs, Allentown, Pittsburgh and Erie, where Democrats get their votes. Few are highly populated by Spanish speaking communities. Even after Trump and his hangers degrading, 60 % Espanol men voted for Trump. (compared to 30% Kamala received ), more than 45% young women who were vocal about pro abortion rights, voted for him. Democrats were counting on their usual vote bank living in big cities, including educated, white women , independents, young voters , non whites, Hispanics to support Kamala. Except Blacks, the rest voted for Trump.

Imitiaz, you are right about the path forward for Democrats. ( a drastic system change ), they need to young / fresh / new faces, policies which are in sync with current reality, aggressively recruit first time voters , young voters, working class, minorities…….. pillars of party. I’m sure there are enough and more people who can lead the party in a right course. But take a look at the GOP, pretty much a repeat of Lankan politics ( UNP, SLFP……….). No more Republican , it’s Trump’s own party. Most good, talented, long term politicians have either left or quit. Trump is not a guy who allows anyone to be groomed as his replacement. After he is done, either it has to be one of his sons ( I doubt ) or his own pick surrounded by people like Green, Boebert, Giuliani, Graham ………( similar to Johnstan, Mahindananda, Rambo, Nimal, SB………. ). There is a good chance of a viable third party coming up in American politics. I already hear, few Republican strategist pointing at the post election, stock market rise and calling it as economic recovery.

“Trump’s landslide victory in last night’s election defied the expectations of many on the left, who had assumed that Kamala Harris would be a strong contender. “
I do not know what ‘Left’ means in US politics, but I doubt if any on the Left is daft enough to pin his hopes on KH.
The Democratic Party played foul to nominate 2019 by denying Saunders the nomination.
The fact that the US voters opted for Trump convincingly speaks enough about the Democratic Party.
Why many important Democrats jumped ship is something that the party bosses should think about.
Had not the Democratic Party antagonized the Arab vote, and all Gaza genocide protesters?
*
Observations by the Green candidate Jill Stein who polled 600,000 votes are worth considering, as she was the nearest to Left among the candidates.

Trump is an officially convicted felon, notorious tax dodger, and a passive terrorist (Jan 8 riots) who is a serious threat to world democracy. Also fabricated fake asset documents to obtain bank loans. 90% of his businesses are bankrupt leaving so many investors high and dry! The things he say and do (such as drinking liquefied bleaching powder for covid) show that he is teetering very close at the border of insanity.

MSarrij, so sick of repeatedly hearing about Sri Lanka and its massive corruption, even though it is the truth. Must say good bye to this political culture, robbing the state assets and sending them to foreign accounts to nurture their next two generations. The tragedy is that there will be judgement on them both legally and supernaturally as well, which they will only know at death, when they have to leave those assets behind and go to hell with empty hands. For now, the constitution needs to be changed and finally the Executive Presidency which gives excess undisputed irrelevant power must be abolished sooner than later. AKD hopefully will survive.

I stand by what I said earlier on the US Presidential Election.
America is weeping. There is no way in hell Donald Trump won the election. He robbed Kamala’s landslide victory.
Trump was fully aware of the planned vote rigging but may not have expected the riggers to go this far. That is why his victory looks fake. Donald Trump winning all swing states doesn’t make sense.
In my estimation, Donald Trump was made aware of his rigged election victory around mid October. Who else was aware of it? Mainstream media close to Donald Trump. Even before the quarter of election results were out, by 9 p.m. on the day of the election, CNN and NBC declared Donald Trump as the winner.
Run up to the election, the mainstream media misled the public about a tight race between Kamala Harris and Donald Trump whereas it was very obvious that Kamala Harris was well ahead of Trump.
How could Donald Trump, who had zero possibility of winning the election, headed for a landslide victory by 8 p.m. on the election day itself? The results came so fast it almost felt like there was no election.

Champa / November 9, 2024
How did vote rigging happen in the US election?
As I said in my first comment on November 6, Donald Trump won the election through a highly sophisticated vote rigging.
The US Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) and Cloudflare both say that “there was no evidence of any malicious activity that had a material impact on the security or integrity of the US election infrastructure”. I believe them. This is not a typical hacking by a foreign element. But, it is not difficult to understand how it happened.
The vote rigging was done internally. This is a first of its kind. I cannot be sure, but it is possible that either the millions of votes received by Kamala Harris was deleted internally or not added to the Election Board’s data entry system. That is the only reason that election results came very fast. That is also why at many instances, Kamala’s votes were at lengthy standstills while Donald Trump’s votes went up at top speed. It doesn’t make sense.
How many votes were missing from the system? At a glance, It could be 30 – 40 million. I will provide the statistics. You decide.

“According to Voter Registration Data, as of September 2024, 186.5 million Americans are registered to vote. Of the registered voters, 87.6 million voters have declared party affiliation. As of September 2024, 45.1 million voters are registered as Democrats while 36 million voters are registered as Republicans. As of November 8, 2024, 146.5 million voters have cast their vote. This means, there is a difference of 40 million votes between voters registered in September 2024 and the voters who actually voted in November 2024. (Source: The Champa Podcast Youtube)
As of 2022, there were only 161.4 million registered voters in the US. (Source: Statista.com) But, as of September 2024, the number has gone up to 186.5 million. (Source: usafacts.org published on September 30, 2024) It is a massive 25 million increase of registered voters than in 2022!

Kamala’s election campaign was in full swing in October and early November with over 200 A-list celebrities endorsing her. In addition to that, grassroot groups such as, “Win With Black Women”, “Cat Ladies for Kamala”, “White Women – Answer the Call”, “South Asian Women for Harris”,”Native Women + Two Spirit for Harris”, “Women for Harris”, “Swifties for Harris”, “Win With Black Men”, “White Dudes for Harris, ”Nerds for Harris”, “Comics for Harris”, “Caribbean-Americans for Harris”, “Filipino-Americans for Harris”, “Disabled Voters for Harris“, “Latinas for Harris”, “Out For Kamala Harris LGBTQ+Unity” and “Howard Alums for Harris”, organized numerous events, calls and zoom webinars for Kamala Harris that had never been seen before in any election campaign. There is a high possibility that all these events have inspired a surge in voter registration in October and early November.
It is no secret that Kamala Harris ignited unprecedented enthusiasm in American voters nationwide. Before the election, we have seen women’s support for Kamala in every state in the United States and the mainstream media is now trying to convince us women didn’t vote for Kamala!
I don’t understand why Americans readily accept the election results that make no sense. The visible winner concedes defeat and allows the fake to rule!

I cannot keep quiet when I see millennials and Gen Zees and the American women nationwide, who put their heart and soul into Kamala’s election campaign, are heartbroken and lose their faith in the American electoral system.
I cannot keep quiet when I see those who are safe today are not safe tomorrow.
The 2024 presidential election results failed America. When America fails the whole world fails too. Nope, actually, I didn’t mean to say that. If this happens in any other country, the United States will question the election integrity of that country and refuse to recognize the election results.
