Why Are Tamils Trying To Remember The Terrorists & Separatists?

By C.V. Wigneswaran

Justice C.V. Wigneswaran MP

Someone asked me; Why are Tamils trying to remember the Terrorists and Separatists? Will they not precipitate a blood bath in the near future?

My response was; I am glad you asked this Question. Every Sinhalese must know our Response to your Question.

The Tamils are not remembering the Terrorists. They are remembering their dear ones who lost their lives in the war. None of them were Terrorists. They  were  all our sons, daughters,  fathers, mothers, brothers, sisters, uncles, aunts, nephews, nieces, cousins and so on.

Firstly who is a Terrorist? Would you call Keppetipola Dissawe a Terrorist?  He was a Sinhala Chief – A Dissawe! He fought against the British. But he is today called a Hero and statues have been erected in his memory. Yet the British called him a criminal, a rebel and made him a wanted man. Therefore firstly you must remember anyone who fights for their rights, individual or collective, cannot simply be called a Terrorist and brushed away. A criminal to the British is today a Hero to the Sri Lankans.  Keppetipola Dissawe fought for his people to drive away the British. Our youngsters  fought for their people to drive away the Sinhala Military. Our Military even today is almost 99 percent Sinhalese. Therefore they could be called Sinhala Military and not Sri Lankan Military. When the commands were in English in the Forces there were lots of Minorities in the Military – Tamils, Muslims, Burghers, Malays and so on. I had my own cousins in the Army and the Navy. I had been to Diyatalawa as a Senior Cadet.

It is the Sinhala Military and its supporters who call our dead as Terrorists and Separatists.

A man kills a person. Similarly another man kills a third person. One is brought before Courts under the normal criminal law. Another is brought under the Prevention of Terrorism Act in Sri Lanka. Who decides this? The Sinhala State of course! When the State wants, it would call a person Terrorist or a simple criminal according to its whims and fancies. The fact is both killed someone. One is treated differently from the other because the State intrudes and calls one a Terrorist and the other a simple criminal.

Actually Terrorism was introduced  to Ceylon by the Governments of that  time. They got their goondas to terrorize the Tamils in 1958, 1961, 1977, 1983 and so on. Innocent men were stabbed to death, women were raped and killed, children were cut, chopped and killed, many innocents were put into cars and set fire to.  Houses of Tamils were set fire to, simply because they were Tamils. For no other reason! All this was done while the government of the time got its Police and Military to look the other side! It was State terrorism at work!

What had the Tamils done to be treated like this from the time of Independence? Except that they were studious, hard working, conscientious and the British recognized their talents when they were ruling us. The so called Sinhalese leaders of that time were bent on depriving  the Tamils of their human rights on account of the recognition the British gave the Tamils for what they were  during their reign.

Naturally our youth were compelled to take up arms for the self-defense of our people. State Terrorism begot victim violence. You cannot conduct continuous pogroms against a community and expect   them to accept all humiliation and violence and go about their day to day chores as if nothing has happened.

Chief Justice Neville Samarakoon told me and the late Justice Edussuriya  that he was in Dubai when the 1983  pogrom was arranged by the government members and he saw on the TV the Police just standing on the road with their guns in hand when Tamil people were being assaulted and killed and thrown alive into burning fires.

The Sinhala youth of today should understand all this. When it suits the powers that be, they name anyone Terrorist and anything he or she does even legitimately as Terrorist activities.

Madam Chandrika has asked recently “Is remembering one’s dead a heinous crime?”

We are remembering our dead relatives. They are no more. They cannot involve themselves in any violent activities nor carry placards asking that the Country be separated. Remembering them or not, the Government is not going to stop the Tamils from complaining and campaigning against the atrocities of the successive Governments and their Military Forces.

So we are not remembering Terrorists nor Separatists. We are remembering those who lost their lives in the war.

Of course the entire war was the outcome of Sinhala Chauvinism in the first instance. If Sinhala language had not been spoken in a determinable land area  in the Island of Sri Lanka  for over 2500 years by  a determinable group  of people  and  if they had during that period spoken Tamil mainly, it was expected of  the Government in power to grant either parity of status to Sinhala and Tamil throughout the Island  or make Tamil the Regional Language of the North and East while Sinhala was made State Language. That was not done initially. If that was done initially the feelings between the communities would not have reached such a nadir.

Dr.N.M. Perera on 19th October 1955 said in Parliament thus –

“If democracy is to be treated as an arithmetical concept that whatever the majority decides must be accepted, that if the majority decides that the majority religion must prevail it must be accepted merely because they have got superiority in members, that is not democracy. Where you have different religions, the sovereignty of the majority is automatically checked by those inalienable rights that the minorities have, which cannot be overridden by the mere whim and fancy of a majority. The test of a democratic decision is the morality of the law. It is not merely a counting of heads but whether in point of fact the minorities are given full consideration for their points of view.

Democracy means an adjustment of different points of view, it means giving full weight to the rights of minority communities. That is what democracy means, it is not merely a counting of heads”.

So the anti-democratic step was taken by the Sinhala majority governments first. When the Tamils reacted they were called Terrorists and Separatists. It is a convenient nomenclature thrust upon Tamils.

Secondly about precipitating a blood bath in the future, my view is that our Sri Lankan people have no such intention. But the government’s actions seem to be aimed at getting our people back into violence. That way their shortcomings can be covered.

Conflict resolution theories state that denying human rights and unleashing vicious repression can lead to violence. When you press a rubber ball under the water at some time or the other it would jerk up to the surface. You cannot continue to keep a community of people, and for that the Tamils who are the inheritors of a five thousand or over years’ civilization and heritage, forever under shackles. Therefore it is in the hands of the government to provide an acceptable solution to the ethnic problem and prevent the superpowers from creating an environment of violence using our problem to their advantage.

Chief Justice Neville Samarakoon told me Sri Lanka had become a dirty word the world over. That was in 1983. 1983 type of pogrom against the Tamils have not thereafter taken place except the butchering of innocents under the pretext of war. Of course there are hardly any Tamils outside the extended Metropolis  of Colombo now unlike in 1983.

As for the North and East the blood bath has to take place by the Military hereafter and not the goondas. Every move of the Military in our areas are watched through satellites. Such talk is bravado! Any attempt to precipitate a blood bath in the North or East will drive the World community to make Balkanisation a reality in Sri Lanka.

Why today one day after Prabaharan’s birthday?
Are you celebrating VP’s Birthday today or are you seriously remembering the fallen heroes including the children who were conscripted forcibly?

Please clarify whether the children were conscripted or joined LTTE voluntarily?
Conscription – to force someone to serve in an army by a state or non-state armed group .

How many of your own kids or kid brothers did you allow the LTTE Child Catchers to abduct, voluntarily conscript, trained to kill and get killed, in the city of Vulgaria of Vanni region ruled by Baron Bomburst Methahu Vellupillai Prabaharan and his knights?

Since when did you start worrying about Tamil kids? Look at the pathetic plight of your own Vedda kids first!!

Sinhalese have the right of self determination.
Tamils have the right of self determination.
Muslims have the right of self determination.

        No one can deny them.

If only counting the number of heads have to decide the rulers, what have you got to say about this:- If you visit a restaurant and bar, you ill invariably see more ‘people’ in the bar than in the restaurant, Does that mean only the ‘intoxicated’ will have their say with regard to the food to be served?

As a man of justice and an MP representing all Tamils (not just Tigers only), would you care to remember the Tamils brutally murdered by the LTTE ? Do you consider they were also “our sons, daughters, fathers, mothers, brothers, sisters, uncles, aunts, nephews, nieces, cousins and so on.” Or do you think they deserved what they got – because you don’t want to talk about Prabhakaran’s war crimes and human rights violations.

      Dear Ajay

We need to do the “Ratha Pottu Mafia Killing Fields in Jaffna a Tamil crime on Tamils by FP/TULF/Tamil Nadu/TNA from 1970-1977-1981” to complete the recordings of all that happened in our land. Sinhalese can do the same of the JVP adventures.

All other work of recording of the killing fields are .lot more complete than the scope I mentioned above. Without this reports/documentation no point in discussing the solutions SL problems.

Not just what Hon CW mentioned but also your scope?? does not include the rest because none of you are interested in the full picture?? but Hague need this before the FP/TULF thugs thugs who misled the children die for them to stand trial/including the Indians.

He was a man of justice of successive Sinhala governments and a MP of SL which gives foremost place to Buddhism and Sinhala. He is a legislator of a parliament which passes laws and every law has a clause – Sinhala text to prevail over others.

      • 3
        0

        Gatam,

“Sinhala text to prevail over others”.
It is not over others, it is only over Tamil . It is because The Sinhala Text and Tamil Texts are both originals.
This clause came in after the 16A that was brought in 1988. This was the last constitutional amendment brought in By JR Jayawardene government.
This was a progressive legislation. According to 16 A
Tamil is on par with Sinhala as Tamil and Sinhala are
        • Language of Administration
        • Language of Courts
        • Language of Legislation.
Sinhala and Tamil texts are originals and English is only translation.
16 A further stipulate that When an act is legalized, it has to stipulate which language text prevail in case of conflicts.
In terms of 16A Northern and Eastern Provincial Councils pass statutes and in those statutes it is stated that Tamil text prevails over Sinhala text.

          Dear S

The problem here is not Tamil language…….the Tamil language has been hijacked by a Mafia…doe not matter what we do does not change the causes and effects……..then one has to deal with the effects that came in 2009…..there will never be anymore drama that spilled the blood of Mother Lankan children for no reason whatsoever.

I repeat there were no reason whatsoever for all that took place in SL except one should have eliminated the FP/TULF. a long time ago…and freed the civilians that we sincerely tried 1981 the last window of opportunity for the Nation was missed…..now we are where we are and one should make the best of washing the toilets….I am happy for the life of the TNA MP’s and Hon CW……..we the people got killed for the life style of these Mafia.

              Thiagarajah Venugopal,
The latest achievement of Gota’s regime is to deny Hindu religious freedom which had been celebrated since time immemorial. First, the Chunnakam Police entered into a Murugan Temple and kicked all the lamps and other items meant for the ceremony. Second, the Army entered into a house where an old couple was celebrating Karthigai Theepam as a mark of respect for the birth of Lord Muruga. There are some more. Is this a deliberate act of the Gota’s government. Where will this end? This is why it is better to an Independent Territory within the Union of India. In India even the North Indians celebrated the event of Karthigai Theepam at Thiruvannamalai.

I am not surprised. After all FP/TULF/TNA/TN mafia did in our land since 1970 all is possible.

I am bemused why you find that surprising…..if I can kill you for doing your job in your society because I do not agree and then I do the same for another 40 years…….no one has come to help your family to get justice what would you think of me……I have to be the low life correct??

The reason I comment now that did not do earlier/all these years is because after all that has transpired through your thoughts (do not mean you) and actions that has robbed all of us our life/our nation……….want to Continue with the same talk??

It is for those who created that scenario(FP/TULF/TNA politics) to come up with answers and not for the victims ourselves??? they should also find answers for all the hate that exist within all the victims in our Nation too???

I look forward to reading articles asking for forgiveness to the victims?? and the actions being proposed that the victims could consider etc??

A terrorist is a separatist who supports violence. Keppetipola Dissawe was not a separatist so he cannot be a terrorist.

Even if he was a terrorist to British (not the case, but even if) he is a hero in Sinhala ruled SL. LTTE terrorists will be heroes in Tamil Elam (if Tamils work hard to create it). But if Tamils continue to live under Sinhala rule, then LTTE people will remain terrorists.

On the other hand Rajapaksas were gazetted to be traitors by the British. Now that is something we all can agree.

      • 1
        2

        Gatam,

You are incorrect, Terrorist is a person who uses violence for political ends. In that sense, both Keppetipola Dissawe and LTTE ers were terrorist.

          srikrish,
Keppetipola Disawe fought against British who colonized Sinhale and he did not slaughter innocent civilians whereas LTTE consisting of descendants of Dravidins brought to Sinhale by colonial rulers and given citizenship in this country by Sinhalayo slaughtered unarmed innocent Sinhala men, women, children and even unborn babies in the wombs of pregnant Sinhala women in order to grab a part of the country belong to Sinhalayo to create a separate State using a bogus claim ‘Traditional Homeland’. Do not try to whitewash Liberation Tigers of Tamil Elam (LTTE) terrorists.

Read Kandyan history by D’ Oyly the first Baronet of Kandy 1977- 1824. He records Keppetipola ‘s ancestors as pure blooded Tamils from South India who settled in Kandyan province 4 generation previously. my family although are pure blooded Tamils have some connection to the Kandyan province and also keppitipola’s family. His real name is Kappitipola monarawila Bandaranayike Dissawe.

Was the JVP terrorist, separatist, or both?

The only solution is Tamil Elam, Muslim Elam (or merging it with another if they wish) and Sinhala Only Elam. Anything else means continuation of discrimination, Tamil inferiority, riots, war, Tamil genocide, etc.

No use killing people over national claims. Just divide the island equitably and relocate people into their nation based on their ethnicity. Problem solved for good.

    • 11
      5

Muslim only Eelam? Where Slave Island? Beruwela? Matara? Maradana? Gampola? Puttalam? where 72% of the island’s Muslims live/ However will never ask for Islamic Fake Arab Salafist Eelam in these areas , as they Sinhalese will never allow this and the Muslims know what is in store for them is they ask for Muslim Eelam here. They will only claim for Fake Arab Islamic Salafist/Wahhabi Eelam in the Tamil areas , especially in the east where 28% of them live , speaking the same language , and until recently the same culture as the indigenous Eelam Tamil. Muslim Eelam ! You will only get a Keelam. Fake Arab largely low caste South Indian immigrant origin Tamil Dravidian converts to Islam who only arrived in the island , a few centuries ago and in the Tamil east as refugees have no claim to any land. You have no history of owning or ruling land in the island. The ancient history of the island is either Sinhalese Buddhist or Tamil Hindu not Islamic or Arab. Now thinking the Tamils are weak trying to steal their lands , with Sinhalese and Pakistani /Gulf Arab help and to justify this , claim a fake Arab origin and deliberately Arabizing themselves.

      • 1
        6

Muslims have the same right of self determination as Tamils. Most likely they will be part of Sinhala Only Elam. Muslims never made separatist demands seriously. Never think of grabbing what equitably belongs to Muslims again.

        • 5
          2

You only have self determination in your own land that was yours historically not on other people’s land where you arrived as refugees a few centuries ago and now trying to claim it as yours , as you think they are politically , economically and militarily weak. Only claim self determination in Tamil areas and not in Sinhalese areas whey the majority of you live, as you know of the consequences from the hands of the Sinhalese state, military and people. This is the reason even when you targeted to bomb Christian churches , yo u largely targeted Tamil Christians and not Sinhalese. Immigrants and refugees in Europe and other parts of the west cannot claim these lands as their and want self determination , after a few generations. Do not make stupid statements . Tamil by ethnicity and have a recent South Indian Dravidian Tamil immigrant origin and still 99% of you speak Tamil but now opportunistically love the Sinhalese and want to live with them , despite getting kicks from them and suffering violence at their hands. If the Tamils separate and the Sinhalese can no more torture them . The lives of the Muslims living amongst the Sinhalese will become a living nightmare

The areas that you guys claim as ‘Tamil’ Areas’ are in Sinhale; the Land of Sinhalayo and Vedda Eththo. Descendants of Dravidians brought to Sinhale illegally by colonial rulers as laborers cannot claim any area in this country as ‘Tamil Areas’. If Dravidians do not want to live in peace with Sinhalayo who gave citizenship in Sinhale when abandoned by colonial rulers please hand over the lands of Sinhalayo and return to your ancestral homeland.

      GATAM,
Need not worry about types of Eelam. The time is not far for the region where Tamils are predominat, will soon become an Independent Territory within the Union of India. And when that Independent Territory enjoys all facilities within the Indian Union, the Sinhalese will also rise up against the politicians and join the Indian Union and be another Independent Territory. All these unwanted disputes arose as a result of the clumsy handlings of the politicians, because they want to preserve their fat commission. The reason is Sri Lanka has not obtained its independence through a bloody war like India and USA. Have a look at the Indian Constitution how Dr.Ambedkar has accommodated the grievances of each and section of the people of India. Remember there also Fifteen women participating in the formation of this constitution which took more than Two years for drafting.

would it stop the FP/TULF/TN thuggery/killing fields and the Mafia life of these fellows though?? they will treat this as a much larger space for the mafia operation and all will continue just as now is it not???

We did not have any problem in SL top until 1970?? but we have now?? what is the current problem we have now in SL?? none of us know??

          Thiagarajah Venugopal,
Soon after the Indo-Sri Lanka Peace Accord was signed, the Deputy High Commisponer for India in Colombo advised the Tamil militants to just maintain silence and that India will do every thing. But this idiot Anton Balasingam said ‘who are these Purohitas to advise us’ pointing at G.Parthasarathy. It was a foolish and unwanted statement. At that time Vastava was the First Secretary. When I read the Indian Constitution on his request, I found Dr.Ambedkar had accommodated everything in the Constitution where I found that its constitution was based on principles of Dharma and also that it laid the foundation for Akhanda Bharath. India won’t like to fight and conquer countries but will accommodate any country that wants to be within its fold. He smiled and was pleased. On that day, I knew separation was completely out of question. These are missed opportunities. I do not know whether he is alive. If he is alive we could have shared it.

            Thiagarajah Venugopal,
There is a slight error. Anton Balasingam never pointed at G.Parthasarathy. But his staement indicated at him. After the secret link he had with R.Premadasa, he made this statement. It is regretted to use the word ‘pointing’.

Tamil Elam and Sinhala Only Elam and Muslim Elam if they wish so. Fair, equitable and mono ethnic.

What’s good for the goose is good for the gander!

No problem Tamil Elam becoming part of India. Otherwise whole SL will continue to be manipulated by India. IPKF soldiers were much loved in Jaffna weren’t they!

It will be Tamil Pradesh and Sinhala Pradesh. Sinhalese will not just remain silent when Tamils need not require VISA to any part of India. They also will request India to be a part of the Indian Union as they fear China will destroy Buddhism in every aspect. Cheers.

AR the Sinhalese deliberately set up and stir these opportunistic tamil Muslims in the east to claim for an homeland , not because they want them to have it. No the Sinhalese want the entire north and east for themselves but to deliberately divide and rule and to muddy the waters , so that the Tamils will not get justice. This Gatam is their agent Constantly claiming for an Fake Arab Islamic Salafist Eelam only in Tamil areas where only 28% of the island’s Muslims live and not in the Sinhalese areas where 72% of them live. Note he always states Muslims love the Sinhalese . Good the 28% of them who arrived in the north and east as refugees , fleeing Portuguese persecution and Sinhalese killings can move the Sinhalese areas to be tormented there. Good riddance

Good thoughts but how you going to make the people stay in Tamil Elam? even the MP’s do not live in their electorate?? Would their be barbed wires and fences/land mined and electrified fences just as in Palestine to keep the NPC separate? force people to go to their kingdoms??

The same applies to the East too??

How about the Upcountry Tamils?? would they have their Kingdoms too or be distributed to the Tamil and Muslim kingdoms??

A Federal Marxist/Chinese Communist Kingdoms for the JVP??

A separate space for all those folks do not want to be ruled by all the above jokers in their own ghettos and lead their own life in their own country would be protected by the UN???? next line of toilet washers??

If there is a Federal State with Adequate Powers, the need for the their representatives to come to Colombo will be minimized. Like the Tamil Nadu and other state assembly MLA’s in India, they will stay put in their respective constituencies. Only the Federal Government representative need to visit the parliament in Colombo Periodically.

Life is all about finding ways around to achieve the same goals…………now we are not in 1977 but is 2020?? one has to appreciate all have limitations too that we should all respect that work with that criteria/accommodate/compromise/diplomacy etc.

Others with much more complicated problems have found solutions….would say better solutions than they thought possible by exploring alternatives???

The only difference is we have killed all the alternatives and called it ”Thus a painful page in the struggle for the Tamil Eelam ended” then in 1981 not a wise decision nor is a justice when we commit worse crime than the one we set out to fix in the first place??.a very slippery slope.

In the current setting, a separatist is someone who supports the division of Sri Lanka. I’m a separatist too in that definition! There are 2 groups – peaceful separatists and violent separatists. Both are against the SL law.

A terrorist is a separatist who supports violence.

All this changes if/when SL is divided to create Tamil Elam, Muslim Elam (if they wish) and Sinhala Only Elam.

In 567BC, Lord Buddha visited Nagadeepa. He explained to two warring kings the uselessness of clinging on to throne and territory if it does not benefit anyone. SL Buddhists failed to grasp the substance. They only see the symbolic connection of Nagadeepa. They must learn to compromise and give up the north. Similarly Tamils are too greedy. They want Colombo as well as Jaffna. They must give up Colombo and elsewhere outside the north and east. Only then can SL have peace.

Until then it is the military that runs the country with a sham politician in the top seat because there are separatists and some separatists are terrorists.

      Dear PK

Sorry can not find anything in the link??

Can not access the link and does it talk about the Indian foreign sponsored terrorism of arming our Jaffna children and destroying our land with the supervision of FP/TULF??

Does it talk about was this an involvement to counter the JVP a Indian Expansion prevention coup sponsored by the Cold War super powers then??

      • 2
        3

I really think the reason Indians got involved is because of the JVP event in 1971….Indian army saving the GOSL then by having the boots on the ground….then they got the IDEOTS in the FP/TULF to allow the Tamil children to be armed to be the mercenaries for their proxy war until whenever and that got prolonged a further because unlike the other killer Tamil groups LTTE found its own way not listening to the masters in New Delhi/Tamil Nadu??

Hence We all lost our Nation period. All else is just a cover story?? typical regime changing masterplan conduct by the super powers that had India built into the plan hence we were mercenaries/toilet washers/refugees/stateless people fighting amongst our pathetic selfs who should be remembered and who should not etc?? who committed materdum and who is a cold blooded killer?

A Colombo man to be the NPC chief and a MP with a new party and not discuss/revist all the crime mindfully since 1970 tells you the space is doomed??

At the start, in West, Hero were defined and designated. Now, on Heroes days or Veterans days, they agree that they have to pay tribute for the many undesignated or unknown have fallen, along the listed or known soldiers.
As Tamils’ fight ended in chaos by government “Humanitarian Rescue Missions Operation” and government killed many innocent boys and girls listing them as LTTE, Tamils have more difficulties in designating Maveerer. So Tamils may not go for any specifics, beyond describing who are Maveerers. This can be sorted out only after an international investigation take place and UN sends a term to research for the details of all the deaths. Now 150,000 are missing. Who knows who is who? If Tamils try to resolve this before an investigation, their attention will be turned away, their internal fighting will return. That’s all what the government wants.

Much of the writer’s observations and remarks are based on fact, except that he tends to protect from scrutiny the atrocities committed by Tamil separatists. I fully agree that successive governments were bent on preserving themselves and their power by using the people as fodder. That is a stark truth that governments will always try to conceal from the people, lest they turn their guns on the very oppressors they elevate on a platform to perpetrate injustice.

The Sri Lankan govt , if they are really keen on reconciliation, should have one national remembrance day for all those who died in the 30 year of liberation struggle.

That is the only way to liberate the country, the people and in particular liberate the racist mind set of all Sri Lankans.

              Dear Rajash

              oh dear easy bro.

Let me give you the answer of this is too hard for you to write it down……FP/TULF/PLOTE/TELO/EPRLF…..++++ ALL WERE PROTECTED BY THE Sri Lankan government and the Indians??? for the past 40 years?? did you not know that??

The same killed all the Tamils (included LTTE with them then up until 1981) collectively to ensure no decent….and my Father was one of them did you not know?? anyone work with the government GOSL was apparently a traitor hence the Indian trained children of Jaffna were made to kill all the FP/TULF opponents using our children. The fact the FP/ TC worked with the GOSL for 80 years since independence and then all others worked with GOSL/Indians/world/SL armed forces/security forces and saved by the same has higher reason I guess??

would you know what that be please?????
(basically what I am asking should we not put the same down for the reasons they put others down ie killed others??? + even if you disagree with that any innocent Tamils who died as a retaliatory measure was all due to FP/TULF activity means there were no reasons nor any death came from the Sinhalese unless for the only reason when they were forced to respond by FP/TULF??

              • 1
                3

So we had a normal country going through development phases in 70’s including kicking the “time wasters” out of Tamil politics in 1970 has resulted in showing the world the real Mafia heads in Sri Lanka the FP/TC?? the entire Nation paid the price until VP dealt with his mentors the FP/TULF/TC/TN masters??

Now someone moved from Colombo and starting the same journey as part of their retirement??

No wonder we have been dying in the hands of the above in great numbers ever since 1970 and no-one to help the innocent Sri Lankans??? trying keep a Nation for themselves?? they have done the unthinkable allowed all the Liberators/Insurgents/killers to the parliament and still we are being sodamised by the same??

      Dear PK

That is what the security apparatus should be doing to prevent people from creating issues in the first place. How the FP/TULF payed this game ever since inception.

They should have been sent as the front line to the LTTE not the armed force in the first place? TNA leader should have been in the front line to save the entire event in 2009.?? where were these people?? why do they need to preserve themselves??

On the other hand Hon CW job scope as an MP is to give us lecture on “Why Are Tamils Trying To Remember The Terrorists & Separatists?” as is an insult to injury in the first place.

He is following the footstep of the hardcore thugs I personally know of from the FP who went around and ask the children to kill their opponents openly. May be he is ready to sacrifice his children for his Tamil causes but should do this in Colombo or Upcountry and take on the JVP perhaps and Jaffna is not his home territory?? is mine and people like ours?? we have not held arms yet as the job is currently left to the armed forces. .

Perhaps he can write an article on how he lived his live before retirement whilst we were all dying for all these years from the evil hands of FP/TULF/Indians???

      • 1
        2

For him to start the same journey on the next generation of children is evil…a crime against humanity.

He should be peace building between the Sinhala/Tamil/Muslim villages as a Judge, he should be brining the Soldiers family, JVP family and the Tamil armed movements families together as his full time job in his last days………..remember the deeds are what matters…………..he can ask the GOSL to help him learn what Durriappa’s and Thiagarajah’s scope of work in serving their people??

How did TNA find him in Colombo?? is this means the entire system is rigged already??

  • 6
    5

Yes the dead can be remembered and even celebrated by the families. However, for the whole community to celebrate the dead, under LTTE banner, and the rest of the country to tolerate it would be difficult for the simple reason some of those LTTE soldiers who died, especially the LTTE soldiers have killed innocent Sinhalese Civilians and Monks, this is not acceptable. Even that under the umbrella of “Tamil Eelam Prabaharan” is totally unacceptable. He killed Rajiv Gandhi a leader of another country. He abducted children from schools to form battalions of Child Soldiers. He threatened families to send their children as child soldiers. He even extracted money and jewelry by force from civilians not only in SL but also in countries abroad where Tamils were living.
Having said all this, the same applies to the armed forces who killed innocent civilians and those soldiers who surrendered. There is no excuse to allow the armed forces too to celebrate their dead who killed the innocent mentioned above.
All in all people like Wigneswaran a “Traitor to the Tamil Society” who split TNA to enable Rajapakses to win should be kicked out of politics. Similarly Gajendrakumar Ponnambalam who like his ancestor who voted in Parliament to send Tamils to India from the Plantation sector to lose their right to the citizenship also should be kicked out of politics.

Maaveerar Naal should remember all those who died in combat , including the civilians , Tamil , Sinhalese or Muslim and should not be under any political banner. People should be allowed to remember . mourn and celebrate their dead. This is a basic human right. Even ex USA president Obama in his book , had briefly stated about Sri Lanka , stating the UN failed to prevent the ethnic slaughter of Tamils in Sri Lanka in May 2009 .

Why is this government really scared of the Tamils mourning their fallen dead? Is it because most of them were put to death in the most brutal manner , that violated international standards . Especially in May 2009. Look at the double standards too. The Sinhalese JVP that had two failed insurrections against the government( state). Killing armed forces and civilians, is allowed to openly commemorate and mourn their dead, while seeking a ban on the remembrance of LTTE cadre, and Tamils to remember and mourn their dead is unfortunate and very undignified by the Sri Lankan state smacking of double standard and open anti Tamil racism

All citizens should be respected and treated with dignity.
No one should be marginalised or discriminated against.

Wiggy is simply trying to be the sole representative of the Tamils in Sri Lanka.
No one has to tell people when to light a lamp people are free to do so if they want according to their wishes at any time or place they want.

Provided that it is not a fire hazard.

I don’t think that a theoretician like Wiggy could win the hearts and minds of the Tamil population in Sri Lanka. Let alone the Sinhala majority.

When a person or a group are enslaved, oppressed and ruled over for a long period of time they don’t want to leave their master no matter how abusive or discriminatory or genocidal the master is!

This is a threat to the creation of Tamil Elam, Muslim Elam and Sinhala only Elam.

Gatam, as many including me have explained to you many times, the Sri Lankan Muslims are Tamil by ethnicity and the so called Muslim identity is only a religious identity and not ethnic. Ethnic Tamil Muslims living in Sri Lanka are called Moors and the name Moor has nothing to do with an Arab or North African origin but a name given by the Portuguese to describe their religion. Now people seem to be literally taking this name to claim an Arab or some other western Asian origin . There is some Arab ancestry amongst certain Sri Lankan Muslim families but they still are all basically Tamil. Even to claim a Muslim Eelam , the Muslims do not live in contiguous area. Even in the east other than the coastal belt starting from Southern Kalmunai to Pottuvil or Sainthamaruthu . They live in pockets surrounded by Tamil villages and towns. If ever there is going to be a Muslim Eelam ( which by the way is the ancient Tamil name for the island) , This is the only area that can be claimed and can never be viable. Just a little Gaza strip very highly populated.

Lastly even these lands are historically Tamil as the place names and history suggests and the Muslims only arrived here as refugees , a few centuries ago and were settled here by the local Tamil chiefs, as such really have no historical rights to these lands. You cannot arrive as a refugee and them claim the land from the original owners, who accommodated you after a few generations. You do not do the same in the Sinhalese areas, why only in the Tamil areas?

Other than is Sri Lankan , the Muslim identity is a religious identity and being Muslim does not mean you are of Arab heritage.

That does not matter. Trincomalee and Ampara districts have a Muslim majority. Muslims have the same and separate right of self determination as Tamils. You are entitled to your proportionate share of the island (15%) and Muslims are entitled to their proportionate share too (10%). Nothing more and nothing less.

Of course. I don’t think Muslims make up 10% of srilankan population. They were 5% in 1979 and today may be about 8% at the most. You have your what ever percentage in the following order 5% outside the north east and 3% within north east which means in the merged northeast you Muslims will have 20 % and sinhalese will have about 8 % to !=10 %.

          0

They are not an outright majority in these districts 40% in Amparai and around 37% in Trincomalee and confined only to certain areas. Tamils are the overall majority in the east, despite large scale ethnic cleansing ,especially in the Trincomalee and Amparai districts and state sponsored Sinhalese colonisation. Moreover these lands are ancient and historical Tamil lands

    GATAM,

Please get rid of your [ poor me ] mentality.

Tamils are part and parcel of the Sri Lankan identity.

Many Tamils have held high office in government and private sectors.

It is high time that this tribal mentality is thrown into the dustbin and a new chapter is started in the Sri Lankan story.

      WK,
Don’t make (poor) judgements for Tamils. Let them decide and let Tamils live in their own nation without the type of Sinhala fools who ruled over them since 1948. These Sinhala leaders have dented the true potential of Tamil Elam. Shame!

Lighting a candle in your own house would be a very symbolic way of protecting oppression but I fear it will be like spitting in the ocean. It will be much better if you would set your own houses on fire on the said day.

Just imagine the international attention. The Rajapukas will not be able to do anything..

Actually, Terrorism was introduced to Ceylon by the Governments of that time. They got their goondas to terrorize the Tamils in 1958, 1961, 1977, 1983, and so on. Innocent men were stabbed to death, women were raped and killed, children were cut, chopped, and killed, many innocents were put into cars and set fire to. Houses of Tamils were set fire to, simply because they were Tamils. For no other reason! All this was done while the government of the time got its Police and Military to look the other side! It was State terrorism at work!
    CV Wigneswaran
Ceylon gained independence on the clear understanding that the minorities will be treated equally and equitably. In fact, the then UNP leader DS Senanayake while addressing the State Council in October 1945 urged Tamil members to vote for the Soulbury constitution. This is what he said:
“Do you want to be governed from London or do you want, as Ceylon, to help govern Ceylon? On behalf of the (Ceylon National) Congress (founded by Sir Ponnambalam Arunachalam in 1919) and on my behalf, I give the minority communities the sincere assurance that no harm need you fear at our hands in a free Lanka.”
On this assurance, the Tamil legislators voted en masse in favour of the constitution. Ceylon would not have got independence if the Tamil members did not vote for the constitution. They trusted Senanayake, but he betrayed the Tamils.
Before the ink was dry on the Ceylon Independence Act, just 271 days after independence, DS Senanayake enacted the Ceylon Citizenship Act (18/1948) which deprived 800,000 Hill Country Tamils of their citizenship.

In 1949 by a simple Amendment to the Ceylon (Amended) Election Act, Senanayake also stripped them of their franchise.
At the 1947 parliamentary elections, the Indian Tamil Congress returned 7 members. In 1952 parliamentary election representation was reduced to zero.
Prabhakaran was not a born-terrorist. Sinhalese racism created Prabhakaran. No one can deny the fact that Prabhakaran enjoyed popular support. He was almost deified by the Tamil people. Of course, the LTTE committed excesses mostly as a reprisal against Sinhala Army’s atrocities. But the excesses committed by the LTTE are not terrorist acts. They are war crimes that should be investigated by an independent judicial mechanism.
This precisely what UNHRC Resolution 30/1 called for. It called, inter -alia, for “the recognition by the Government of Sri Lanka that accountability is essential to uphold the rule of law and to build confidence in the people of all communities of Sri Lanka in the justice system, notes with appreciation the proposal of the Government of Sri Lanka to establish a judicial mechanism with a special counsel to investigate allegations of violations and abuses of human rights and violations of international humanitarian law, as applicable; affirms that a credible justice process should include independent judicial and prosecutorial institutions led by individuals known for their integrity and impartiality; and also affirms in this regard the importance of participation in a Sri Lankan judicial mechanism, including the special counsel’s office, of Commonwealth and other foreign judges, defense lawyers and authorized prosecutors and investigators.”
