Northern Chief Minister C.V. Wigneswaran has formally appointed his provincial board of ministers, and will hold the police and public order and lands portfolios, the TNA said in a media release.
Wigneswaran said the Chief Minister had appointed T. Kuruklarajah as the Provincial Minister of Education and Culture, P. Sathiyalingam as Provincial Health Minister, Dhaineswaran as Minister of Fisheries, Transport and Village Development and P. Aingaranesan as Minister of Agriculture.

Long live you Wig…!!…wish you not to be like Kadiragamr,Thruchelwam or Amrthalingam…
/
Ben Hurling / October 10, 2013
Agree.
Wiggie should take his security very seriously. And not let his guard down. The fatal mistake committed by Kadiragamr,Thruchelwam and Amirthalingam.
Biggest threat to Wiggie’s life comes not from hardcore Sinhalese racists, but from disgruntled extreme Tamil ethno-nationalistic nut cases.
It is a weird world.
Cheers!

Further we have the white van syndrome & unaccountable deep state secuirty apparatus issues.
And a whole lot of high profile murders unsolved for obvious reasons.
It is truly a pathetic state of affairs. Life in the Miracle of Asia.
/
Ajith / October 10, 2013
Its true that the hardcore racist Sinhalese have got the people like Karuna, Pillaiyan and Douglas are there to implement their plans. Gotapaya create the plans, Basil funds it, Karuna implements it and Rajapkase approves it.
/
Ben Hurling / October 11, 2013
May be so.
But, there is also a very serious threat from ethno nationalistic lunatics on the Tamil side.
Cheers!

I wish Wiggie^s could become exemplary to learn the rulers good lesions. We though Sinhalese but are caught by highly abusive MR and thugs as no way outs are seen.
Hope all gods be with him to fulfil the task.

For me, no matter a leader being tamil, sinhala, burgher, muslim – if they are respectful and dignified politicians. Right at the moment, abusive politics of Rajapakshes have reached to appalling ends, nevertheless gawky, uneducated masses have easily been instrumentalized by them. Situation is more or less comparable to easy spread of a deadly virus to a most weakened population. If any leader would turn this trend the other way around making hopes – that can surely become exemplary.

The composition of the council of ministers and the names of those appointed to support them appear sensible. The references to sections in the 13th amendment that list the subjects assigned to the council of ministers will be educative to the public, a lesson in attention to details and a job description for the ministers. A good start.
Suresh Premachandran is of course as expected firing canon balls- irritating noise and foul smelling- at he new CM. He is a major fault line in the TNA that is trying hard to cast itself in a new mould. I wonder whether he is yet the official spokesman for the TNA! Hope he will not turn out to be the cancer that destroys from within.

That’s nice, I guess you and Dayan have a lot in common-both are good at lauding the president !
Birds of a feather do flock together.
Now that the NPC has been elected and is trying to do some good, please don’t do any of your usual machinations at the bidding of your masters to disrupt it-it looks like the TNA is quite capable of doing it themselves from the inside !
/
Dr.Rajasingham Narendran / October 13, 2013
Dev,
I ‘ Laud’ anything that deserves lauding. I do not view the world in black and white. It is like a light spectrum to me, with many colours. I laud Sambanthan and Sumanthiran for setting the TNA on a new path. I have been also critical of them in the past. I have also lauded and criticised the present government. I have also not been blind to the positives in Velupillai Prabaharan, while being quite critical of what he turned out to be.
Sometimes, one has to forgive transgressions, when there are signs of progress. When there is a spark of hope, it should be shielded and helped to take hold. It should not be smothered foolishly, ignoring its potential for the future. This is especially important when dealing with a situation like what the Tamils in the north were in at the end of the war. We had to at that point be thankful and appreciative of all help, big or small. We could not or should not have been seen as biting the hand that was sheltering, feeding and dressing us, however much they may have also contributed to our plight.
I think it is time you visited Sri Lanka and see the ground situation first hand. You may then become both a lauder and a critic, as I am. If you are in Sri Lanka, it is time you removed your blinkers.

I would advise Mr Suresh Premachandran to change his attitude and cooperate with the people’s verdict and play a key role in achieving the key objectives. If you want ministerial post, please leave the TNA and join Rajapakase regime and you will get immediate ministerial position and many benefits. Let the appointed ministers to do the job and people will evaluate whether appointed ministers are doing the job as expected. Ministerial posts are to do the job efficiently and effectively. Ministers are there not to serve a particular group or part of Northern province. There are there to identify the needs of the people and to deliver solutions to their needs. Don’t create regional differences or party differences. Our political struggle is not about ministerial posts, our youths and people did not suffer and sacrifice their lives not for creating divisions on party lines and regional lines.
You should look back and learn from what happened to Ananthasangary, Sivajilingam, Pillaiyan, Karuna, and Douglas etc those who tried to divide the unity. We need unity if we want to achieve something. Please change your attitude or keep out of it.
/
Agnos / October 11, 2013
The TNA’s choices look good to me. It was unseemly for Premachandran to promote a ministry post for his brother; and Sidharthan, given his past with the SLA, was wisely kept out for now.
Too many among Tamils feel entitled to be ‘leaders.’ That is why at one time there were more than 30 militant groups among 2 million Tamils, each claiming to fight for Tamil “liberation.” Contrast that with the US, where two major parties somehow represent 330 million people.
More Tamils in the North need to focus on self-development and real careers instead of indulging in emotionally driven politics with a sense of entitlement.
/
Ajith / October 11, 2013
I agree with you. This was the curse in our liberation struggle. Each one wants to be leaders and each one wants to be ministers. EPRLF, EPDP, EROS, PLOTE, TELO etc are not political parties, they all emerged as liberation organizations in 1980s as an alternative to LTTE in the armed struggle. That helped Sinhala states to crash our armed struggle. It is time to dismantle these organisations and join mainstream Tamil political party or form an alternative to that party as a united front and contest in the elections in a policy that is acceptable to the main political party. Don’t fall in to the trap of Sinhala extremist’s trap.

Excellent.
This is the first time the Vellalas are in governance since Elara.
Will CM’s handlers Sambnadan and Sumanthiran allow the Vellalas to gradually become a formidable force in governance for the betterment of the population regardless of their ethnic backgrounds?.
Would the Canadian funds and Rev Emmanuel and PM Rudra have input as to how the governance going to pan out over the next three or four years?.
Is this Annanthi the same one that I have been lobbying for?.

Look you are trying to divide the Tamil community along caste lines. Thanks to VP he completely got rid of the caste system. Unlike the Sinhalease upper caste no cast among the Tamils were feudal landlords or had enslaved families to work for them. there are many names they had Hamus Ralamis and so on.

Mr. Sumana,
The 4 ministers appear to be chosen to represent the 4 different
Districts in the NP leaving little room for caste considerations
to come in. The focus appears to have been to appoint those as
Ministers with experience and educational qualifications in their subjects. Chief Minister Vigneswaren is going about his first task professionally and admirably. He needs to be supported. Suresh P
behaves in the culture that was at play when those who ran governance
with arms (ayhudha kalarcharam) ruled the roost.

Ananthi is far more attractive too , Isn’t she Levi?.
Had Praba accepted Ranil’s ISGA, Annathi would have been the sort of first lady in old Sambandan’s Turf.
And the Vellalas there would have been lining up to get an invite at least to have afternoon tea with her.
But not sure about the Colombo Vellalas who are calling the shots now.

Probably he should have given Ananthi a cabinet post. After all she got 87000 votes compared to his 137000.There is again going to be disunity among the tamils and power struggles and with disunity you cannot achieve much as the tamils have found to their cost since 1947.
Besides there is no woman among the cabinet ministers though there are more than 50% in the community.Talk about discrimination, well it is right there in our own community,so better we get rid of it first before throwing stones at the sinhalese.Appointing Ananthi as a minister would have killed 2 birds with one stone, creating unity as well as showing to the world that tamils don’t discriminate against women.Tna is no heading the UNP way with disunity in its ranks.
/
Citizen / October 13, 2013
Shankar,
Even I was under the impression that Ananthi should have been considered. But she got the votes through sympathy resulting from the attacks by unscrupulous elements. But she has to get some training and experience and watch how C.V.Wigneswaran handles the present situation. She will be given due significance by C.V.Wigneswaran. But my worry is Suresh Premachandran who still have not learnt even after entering the Parliament. Moreover C.V.Wigneswaran is a religious-minded person. Neverthless, he will have to have an eye on the movements of his security guards and monitor their movements. Now another unscrupulous lady (fully corrupt) from UNP appears to be appointed as District Minister for North, who will stoop down to low level of spying, other than paying more attention on the economic development of the North. I cannot understand why MR appoint such person as District Minister who has no knowledge of economics.
/
Dr.Rajasingham Narendran / October 13, 2013
Shanker,
I do not think that she is the right person for a ministerial position at this point in time. She has been given a role to play in governance. This should give her the opportunity to make a difference to the war-affected families, women , children and old folk. In a situation where there can be only four ministers in addition to the CM, the best possible has been done. Many skills are required to get the 13 th amendment to work at least at sub-optimal levels and those in the Council of Ministers, should be able work quietly, nimbly, deftly and with foresight. the people have to see tangible results on the ground. Ananthy definitely has not displayed these traits post election. This is not the time for grandstanding.
Dr.Rajasingham Narendran
/
Citizen / October 14, 2013
Dr.Rajasingam Narendran,
I think you are correct. Ananthi should make use of the opportunity C.V.Wigneswaran has provided her. She should not play into the hands of the oonents and should seek advice from CVW and not to talk out of turn on account of emotional feelings. It will take time to realize the implications of the 13th Amendment and it involves diplomacy.
/
Citizen / October 14, 2013
There is a typographical error. It should be read as ‘She should not play into the hands of the opponents’.

It is not that easy. Tamils are already fury over Suresh Premachandran and others who have not taken Oaths before C.V.Wigneswaran. Tamils will teach a good lesson to these narrow-minded extremists.
/
Citizen / October 14, 2013
I also understand that Anandasangaree is been promised that he will be made the Chief Minister if the rest of the members who have not taken Oaths join hands with the UPFA. This may be one of the reasons why Suresh and some rebellions are trying to break away. Unity among the Tamil politicians has become a questionable issue and the Tamils have been again let down by these elements.
/
shankar / October 15, 2013
“Unity among the Tamil politicians has become a questionable issue and the Tamils have been again let down by these elements.”
They have not been let down by any so called elements, only by wigneswaran.I always felt he will lack political experience and make blunders. When the tamil people have clearly given their verdicts by voting ananthi second with more than 60% of votes received by the CM himself and he does not even give a portfolio to her let alone consider her as his deputy, can you expect unity among tamils. He has clearly told the tamils who voted for her and her other TNA councilers allies to go and have a bath.He cleverly got more votes than her by praising prabhaharan before the election and more or less is now telling LTTE sympathisers “ha i took you for a good ride no”.This type of games is what amirthalingam also played with the LTTE and paid the penalty.Wigneswaran has not studied the history of this ethnic problem properly being immersed in law books and courts and now that he has set foot into the dirty world of politics and thinking he is smart hope he does not suffer the same fate as amir because he is playing the goat with a lunatic fringe of tamil society who should be slowly marginalised through smart politics like what happened to the JVP with the SLFP marginalising them practically out of parliament by the ballot.
