Will Subramanian Swami‘s Visit Revive Racist Politics?

By Latheef Farook

Latheef Farook

Leader of India’s ruling Bharathiya Janatha Party (BJP) and former Minister Subramanian Swamy was once again in the island on an invitation by former President Mahinda Rajapaksa to participate in the Navarathri Pooja. According to reports Swami met with former Sri Lankan President Gotabaya Rajapaksa in Colombo on Wednesday (28/09).

But most surprisingly he had been invited and also attended as the key note speaker at the 15th International Research Conference on “Economic Revival National Security & Sustainability through Advancement of Technology & Innovation” organized by the General Sir John Kotelawala Defense University. Surprising because Swamy’s anti-minority, particularly anti-Muslim rhetoric is well known. The University had never invited a Sri Lankan Muslim citizen reflective of the community’s perspectives to address any acceptable level meeting at the University. Anyhow Swamy’s full speech at the conference is yet to be released.

Subramanian Swami participating in Rajapaksa’s Navarathri Pooja must be welcome, if it will endow both with greater respect and practice of their respective respected religions than on fostering divisive racist cravings in South Asia!

Peace loving people in the island, especially the minorities are however deeply concerned about the renewal of this relationship and the offer of a platform for a controversial Indian with a possible closed door brain washing on the sidelines of the conference perhaps on how to revive divisive politics in the economically hamstrung country, instead of allowing the government of the day to unite the nation and its people to come out of the ‘hell-bottom’ in which Sri Lanka is struggling economically today! We can be relaxed if the likely brain washing was not what really happened!

One thing is very clear, namely any attempt to divert the country’s attention on anti-minority racist lines will boomerang both internally and internationally, thanks to some, reviving the Aragalaya even though the country needs perfect peace and absolute unity!

If we take up the case of the Muslims, during the three decades of LTTE war the 90,000 strong Northern Muslim population was driven out from their traditional homes, with only Rs 150, only because they did not support LTTE attempts to divide the country on racist lines. Will Swamy’s moves in Sri Lanka backed possibly by the present Hindutva rulers in India and likely also by the world’s only racist State Israel, recreate a Hindutva Eelam in North East Sri Lanka, is a question that the writer reserves for another piece later if and when more evidence thereof emerges. Hindutwa Eelam may not be the aim of the Northern Tamils or the TNA but could be Mody cum Swamy’s dream, while not being unmindful or unappreciative of the wonderful US$ 3.8 billion total assistance promptly given in well measured instalments by the Mody government to Sri Lanka.

But my question for the present is, will Swamy’s visit revive divisive racist politics at a time of grave economic and political hardships instead of uniting all Sri Lankans?

After the three decade war that wrenched away Sri Lanka’s resources to arms manufacturing countries, another factor that had, probably unintentionally, led to the country’s present economic plight, Muslims’ patriotic contributions to the national security of the country was soon forgotten! The last ten years saw false fear mongering of this minority, attacks on them in Aluthgama, Digana and elsewhere and radicalisation of the youths of this community, without any care for the long term interests of the 22 million helpless and innocent people. The Parliamentary Select Committee and the Presidential Commission on the Easter Attacks have already spoken about it.

Is there another possible attempt, in Swamy’s visit to rekindle the fires that had already contributed to the devastating economic hell fire into which the 22 million are already getting absorbed? The question arises because Swamy’s anti-minority axis is well known and could not have been unknown to his hosts. The concern is whether anyone is thinking of dividing once again the island nation’s people on ethno-religious lines? If that be not the case, the legitimate concerns of the minorities need to be cleared. If that be the case, do not fault the whistle blowers particularly because the international community is closely monitoring.

After the war, Muslims sought to rebuild their lives. However they believe that the government’s ill-advised opening of the country to extremely hostile, violently extremist right wing regional and international forces such as BJP, VHP, Bajrang Dal, Shiv Sena and other such racist entities from India and elsewhere backed by the arms agents of Israel, will lead to further economic disaster.

Minorities were subjected to repeated attacks with no prosecutions. There were unceasing violations of human rights, though denied by agents of Sri Lanka in international fora. Their residential, commercial and industrial properties, mosques including Holy Quran were burnt. Muslims were attacked during the holy month of Ramadan while men went to mosques for night prayers. Later during the deadly corona crisis Muslim dead bodies were burnt dismissing all their appeals to allow burials in keeping with their religious requirements.

Hand in hand, sections of the media unleashed very well organized Islomophobic campaigns distorting Islam as promoting violence and demonizing nearly all  Muslims as terrorists while shielding without prosecution those who promoted anti-Muslim violence. Some Muslims thought that with the emergence of the aragalaya, racism in the country had been done to death! Mercifully the Attorney General and the Courts have seen through the victimization that had occurred.

Now on a daily basis it is coming to light as to who did what and the people have begun to challenge the racist mercenaries at all levels. Even today Muslims remain a wounded lot as the violence on their folk are fresh in their memories.

Enlightened Sinhalese including monks have given accounts with vivid details of the organized measures against Muslims which would have divided communities thereby destroying the country. Some of these have been published. See for example the full page interview of Ven Dr.Galkande Dhammananda Thera published in the Daily Mirror of 7th June 2022. The need is for all to join hands to heal the wounds, establish communal harmony and move the country forward.

Under such circumstance General Sir John Kotelawala Defense University in Colombo inviting Subramanian Swamy remains a worrisome cause for concern. Swamy is known as one of the powerful racist- rabble-rousers. One cannot understand the logic behind inviting this very same Swamy for a function organized by General Sir John Kotelawala Defense University in Colombo! Sir John would have never allowed it!

Subramanian Swamy is an Indian politician obviously with an agenda of his own, belonging to the British created Rasthriya Swayam Sevak’s, RSS, whose deceptive front is the ruling Bharatiya Janatha Party- BJP advocating the RSS ideology. Swamy has been in the forefront in campaigning to turn India into a Hindu raj where Brahmins rule while others are dehumanized to serve in subservient relegated roles.

Following the Mumbai bombings in July 2011, Swamy wrote an article in the Indian newspaper Daily News  proposing to force  all Muslims to “acknowledge that their ancestors were Hindus” in order to vote.

Swamy has courted fresh controversy after he said that Indian Muslims are not entitled to have equal rights in India. The video making highly objectionable comments about Indian Muslims has prompted many to declare him a fascist. Kavita Krishnan wrote on Twitter, “World: listen to an MP of India’s ruling party state, clearly, without any attempt to disguise bigotry, that Muslims are not entitled to be equal citizens in India and that substantial Muslim populations spell trouble for any country. This is fascism.” Vinay Sreenivasa, of Bangalore requested Swamy to issue an apology for carrying such an extremely offensive piece, so  that people know such offensive views will not be tolerated.

In August 2019, he said Zionists and Hindutva state of India must come together. It is not surprising therefore that Swamy, a serial provocateur, may add to the toxic anti-minority discourse at this critical time. Swamy’s controversial op-ed in 2011, demonizing Islam, led to Harvard University dropping him from its visiting faculty list, while Sri Lanka honours him! Harvard University said Swamy’s views were “reprehensible and clearly crosses the line by demonizing an entire religious community and calling for violence against their sacred places”

This man seeks to declare ‘Ram Sethu’ as an Indian national heritage monument. Correct me if I am wrong! Ram Sethu, also known as Adam’s bridge, is a chain of limestone shoals between Pamban Island, also known as Rameswaram Island, off the South-Eastern coast of Tamil Nadu, and Mannar Island, off the North-Western coast of Sri Lanka.

However his, perhaps better enlightened younger daughter, Suhasini Haidar, is a print and television journalist married to Nadeem Haidar, the son of former Indian Foreign Secretary Salman Haidar. They, husband wife, with kids went to Mecca to perform Hajj.

The whole world is against Mlechcha Rajapaksh but India’s controversial smile, Dr. Kumaraswamy continues to support Mahinda Rajapaksa.

There is more to these people than their political views.
Both are highly superstitious. MR has been proven to wear more than 45 talismans around his body before leaving his cave. It is said that Mahinda Rajapaksa was bullied by stupid people for the last two decades. One of them is Eliantha White who was finally punished by covid. Walampuri Swallow Man, Galthanna Kapua are Mahinda Rajapaksa’s closest friends. This nation has been led astray by MR’s foolish beliefs.
This reminds me, after MR and Polonnaruwa Donkey’s controversial plot in October 2018, this Kumaraswamy has invited MR to India for a personal visit.

Rajapaksa is as much a Hindu as Swamy. Is the author unaware of MR’S (and Ranil’s) frequent visits to Tirupati?

Any extremely corrupt people in politics are bound by religious belief from their basic nature.

Gaddafi, Saddam Hussein, Mugabe, Suharto and many like-minded people behave the same.

Once I saw Mahinda hanging around inside the Thirisupathi temple like a madman. I wish I could know what was going through his little head. These people must be entwined with unseen forces, as the people of the Middle Ages did.

I have no idea about others, I would not kneel before a Sri Lankan monk today. I wish to do it in front of an elderly mother who believes in spreading more kindness to the world.
        .
The whole country was turned upside down by Ghanakka or other illusions that the entire Rajapakse is hanging around. On his list of wizards and witches there are a lot of men… and one of them is that young man – Eliantha White. Poor chap, died of COVID at the age of 48.

Latheef, worst racism in Srilanka is Muslim claim to eastern province, and to achieve it to join hands with Sinhalese to commit murder and ethnic cleansing of Tamils. How can those who went to eastern province as refugees 400 years ago, claim it to be theirs over the heads of those who gave refuge to them. You are only concerned about others while you are turning a blind eye to Islamic racism in Srilanka. Worst act of terrorism in Srilanka was committed by Muslims by killing 300 Christians half of whom were Tamils, on a single day. Just by saying that they were instigated by Rajapakses and sweep it under will not do. They were preparing to explode it in Vihares to kill Buddhists, but were forced to do otherwise. Racists like Hisbullah of Katankudy and Badurdeen of Mannar and host of other Muslims who gave financial and logistical support to these Islamic terrorists are still walking free. Muslim extremism in Srilanka was exposed in the recent episode of a Buddhist lady who visited Katankudy mosque and posted it on social media. This shows that Muslims are the most bigoted lot in Srilanka who cannot tolerate constructive criticism. Cooperate with law enforcement authorities to eliminate these Islamic racists.

This Swamy fellow is a well known mad guy and a congentital touble maker. He is a guy no one with sense values. He is just crazy and utters nothing but bull shit. It is not worth talking about this mad fellow. He is a sick guy. Where ever he goes he creates trouble. One can imagine with love affair with Mahintha. A dirty, evil, Brahmin that is a curse to India too.

The question is how such a crazy man with controversial records from India can interfere in the issues of Sri Lanka through another vile country, another abusive man….. ? The so-called “super patriot” Mahinda Rajakashe reacting in this way proves his true mirror image. He shows himself to be a bigger boss to Medamulana dogs, however, this man has lost his trust all over India.

First, being a Muslim is not a racial or ethnic identity but a religious one. There is no such thing as called a Muslim race or ethnicity. It is a religion that is followed by people from many races, and ethnicities, just like all the other major world religions. The Sri Lankan Muslims or Moors as they love to identify themselves are ethnic Tamil Muslims of South Indian immigrant origin, who migrated to the island a few centuries ago, however the vast majority during the early British colonial era. There are some Arab or other Western Asian in a few families but this also largely occurred in their original South Indian homeland and hardly here. However, for all intent and purposes, they are considered to be of Tamil ethnicity. The original parent population in South India regards themselves as Tamils, even the ones with some Arab ancestry. Only in Sri Lanka or Ceylon for political and economic advantage the Muslim elite and politicians, used their religion and the little bit of Arab ancestry, as a blanket ancestry for the entire Muslim population on the island and claimed a different identity. The British and after independence the Sinhalese, in order to divide and rule the Tamils, granted this. However, to be fair to the British, they did not take this Arab origin seriously and other than separate political representation lumped them with the Tamils for everything else.

At the time Muslims were chased out of the north their number was 90000 as claimed but more around 60000-65000. What happened to them was a tragedy but they were not chased out because the LTTE wanted a racially pure state, because the LTTE considered the Muslims from the north and east as part of the Eelam Tamil nation but because the Muslims were caught red-handed spying for the Sri Lankan armed forces against the LTTE and storing arms provided to them by the Sri Lankan state. What was the reason for doing this? Other than to fight the LTTE/Tamils. The LTTE did not want a repeat of what happened to the eastern Tamils at the hands of the Muslim home guards, who were armed by the Sri Lankan state, therefore decided to remove them from the north, as their numbers were low and they could not be trusted. They were considered to be a fifth column. It was not correct as many Muslims were innocent but this was the reasonfor their removal and not with some Idea of a pure Tamil state, as the Muslims from the north, east and m north-western coast are more or less of pure Dravidian Tamil heritage, with hardly any Arab in them. If there is any Arab it is largely found amongst the Southern Muslims.

      • 15
        3

To the LTTE these North East Muslims were ethnic Tamils, who betrayed the Tamil cause in the name of their religion and an imagined Arab, therefore could not be considered trustworthy. Whatever the LTTE was they were very secular and never discriminated against anyone on the basis of caste or religion.
As for the Navarathiri Pooja at the Rajapakses and Subramania Swamy attending, it is a joke. In Tamil, there is a saying”Paddikirathu theevaram iddikirathu Sivan kovil.” Meaning you sing praises to god but destroy his temple. The Rajapkses are going around visiting various Hindu temples in India and holding Navarathiri Poojas at their homes but in reality, they are well-known Sinhalese Buddhist extremists and it is their supporters, who are now going around the north and east claiming and destroying ancient Hindu temple sites and converting them to Buddhism. Subramania Swamy is commonly known as the loony Swamy. An ethnic Tamil who sides with every anti-Tamil hater. No one in Tamil Nadu respects him and does not want him, as he is a well know Tamil hater. He is not part of the current BJP and no one wants him there too. He is a Hinduvata supporter, who is married to a Parsi. Hates Muslims but his eldest daughter is married into a prominent North Indian Muslim family. Her father-in-law Haider was the former Indian foreign Minister.

He has two Muslim grandsons. He is with the Rajapkses as they are well-known anti-Tamils and Mr Swamy is a self-hating Tamil, who is drawn to anti-Tamils. I do not think the BJP or the Sri Lankan Tamils want a Hinduvata North East. This Hinduvate concept is very north Indian. Sri Lankan Tamils are very tolerant and secular, however Sinhalese Buddhist Fascism and now Islamic extremism in the east may change this. In this mixture, fundamental Christians are also looking for easy prey to convert. All this is alarming many Tamil Hindus. Especially the recent indents with regards to Kuroonthor and Thirukoneswaram.

Would that humiliation be the source of anti-Muslim sentiments?
            *
Swamy was a great backer of the LTTE and once swore that the LTTE would not have had a hand in the killing of Rajeev G.
His agency, RAW swallowed it and was humiliated by its rivals in the South Block.
Swamy never forgave the LTTE ever since and broad Tamil support for LTTE extended the resentment to Tamils.
He, like Cho Ramasamy, is unashamedly Brahminist in thinking– although preferences differ. But Cho was hostile to the Tamil cause here from the late 1970s.

SJ you are 100% correct. His daughter Suhashini Haider, a journalist, also has very anti Sri Lankan or Eelam Tamil views and supports her father’s anti Tamil views. The fruit has not fallen far from the trees. It is Tamil Brahmins like him and Cho Ramasamy with their unashamedly superiority/elitist Aryan Brahminism Hindutva views, who are a curse on us Tamil Brahmins. They do not suffer but owing to them lots of poor ordinary Tamil Brahmins suffer. The loony Swamy cries crocodile tears of about the plight of Hinduism in Tamil Nadu under Dravidian rule, which is funny as Tamil Nadu is the most Hindu state in India and Hinduism is very safe there. However, hobnobs and is very paly with Sinhalese Buddhists racists and fascists in Sri Lankan, who are actively destroying ancient Hindu temples/sites on the island and forcibly converting them to Buddhist, using concocted history and state power. Says a lot about him and his mindset.

” Muslims were caught red-handed spying for the Sri Lankan armed forces”
No evidence has been offered so far.
There were many many Tamils who got caught red handed doing much worse
Should not all the Tamils have been chased out except for Tambi., his cyanide battalions and baby brigades?

There are several errors in the above write up and are not facts based on history

      1. Not every dravidian was a Tamil speaker. Dravidians simply means those who lived south of the Vindhya mountains in central India. Dravida means region sorrounded by 3 seas, or referring to the Peninsular part of India. People with high ASI (ancestral south Indian) genes and other indigenous people were considered as Dravidians. Dravidian is neither a race nor a language nor a culture, but a grouping of indigenous peoples of southern India and Ceylon. They had multiple languages. Proto-Tamil was one of the languages. Other languages such as Kannadiga, Telugu, Tulu and Malayalam all are distinct languages and considered Dravidian. So it is not correct to say all of them were speakers of Tamil language or practitioners of Tamil culture.

      2. Semitic traders from the middle east have been visiting the west coast of India and Sri Lanka. The word Ceylon comes from the Arabic Word Saheelan. Many came to buy cinnamon and other commodities to take back to the Arabian markets. Others stopped by Sri Lanka on their way to South East Asia. This is well affirmed by historians. Even greek and Jewish traders regularly used to visit Kerala (where there is still a Jewish community) and Sri Lanka.

      • 9
        0

The word Dravidian is derived from the word Tamil and this has been proved many times. Tamil> Tamila or Damila> Dravida. The original Dravidian language or what they call Proto Dravidian is basically old Tamil or Proto Tamil and this is also a fact. Even now modern Tamil has retained/preserved more than 85% of proto-Dravidian vocabulary which other Dravidian languages have not but have retained other aspects of it. Kannada. Telugu and Malayalam are all directly descended from Old or Middle Tamil. The former two are from Old Tamil and the latter from Middle Tamil. It started to diverge from its Tamil mother around the 13Th century but really broke off only a few centuries ago. However, even until the 1820s the vast majority of Kerala’s population considered themselves Tamils and spoke the ancient Chera Tamil dialect Malayalam/ Malayalama or Malabar Tamil written in the Tamil Vatteluthu script. Until the British at the request of their Namnoothiri and some Nair allies banned this language in the 1820s and made the highly Sanskritised Grntha Bhasha language of the immigrant Namboothiri Brahmins, written in the Tulu-based Tilgari script, as the official language of Kerala and cunningly renamed this as Malayalam, the ancient Western Tamil dialect of Chera Nadu. This is the reason simple spoken Malayalam is a form of Tamil, whereas the language used in Media and writing is something else.

Yes, all Dravidian speakers of Tamil or another Dravidian language are not of Dravidian ancestry, many are of Indo-Aryan, Australoid or of another ancestry, or a mixture of everything and similarly all speakers of Indo-Aryan languages are not of Aryan ancestry most of them are of Dravidians or Dravidian hybrids, except the extreme north and north-west. Tamil is an ethnicity and people belonging to an ethnicity can be from many origins or a mixture of many people. The word Ceylon or Serendib is derived from two origins. One theory is from Sinhala Deepa or the other from the ancient Tamil world for the island Cheran Theevu, meaning the island of the Chera or Naga. Chera is another word for Naga in old Tamil.

          • 7
            0

Yes, the Arabs and other Semitic people traded along the western and eastern coasts of India, especially the western and eastern coasts of the ancient Tamil country, modern-day Tamil Nadu and Kerala. However only a very small percentage of them settled or took local Tamil women from these areas and produced offspring. Most Muslims found in these areas are descended from local converts to Islam but all now claim Arab and another Semitic origin, to make them look good, as they do not want to admit to the fact that the vast majority of them are descended from low caste or untouchables who converted to Islam to escape the oppressive Hindu caste system. This is fact and no pun or insult is intended.

Subramaniam Samy is not recognized as a politician, not even in his home state Tamil Nādu. He is not even treated by the B.J.P. as a prominent figure in the party. He is a Brahmin by birth and married to a non-brahmin and started politics in Janatha and nobody trust him. Rajapaksas may be funding him and making him a prominent figure for their personal gains.

Rajash, you are absolutely right. Latheef Farook has a hidden racial agenda. You can check archives for his previous articles or simply wait for the next, to know what I mean. I have no issues with any of other Muslim authors writing in CT. ( Lukman, Usuf, Ameer Ali and others ) . Stupid Swamy has made several visits to Lanka before what’s new ?? Latheef as usual , taking advantage of this visit to spread is his own racial agenda. Rajapaksas are desperate for their revival. Hence the plan is to mend bridges with India (much needed and somewhat a easy target, they also abstained from voting which is typical of their flip flop politics) especially getting close to ruling BJP. Rumor is to invite Amit Shah ( probably with help of Swamy) as special guest for the coming SLPP conference, promoting “return/come back of Mafia family” again. Unofficial meetings / lobbying between Rajapaksa cronies and BJP, RSS and other hardcore right wing group s have already begun. Swamy’s only goal is to profit, by getting Rajapaksas back in power, nothing else.

    Dear Latheef,

Inspite of the recent unfortunate events involving Muslims, there is no wide spread hatred or dislike towards the muslims by the sinhalese. Gnanasara dog was able to spread some hatred aided by utterance’s of a few muslim youths. It is a well know thing that there were many Muslims in the Intelligence service of Sri Lanka as well as in the tri forces. It was a Muslim boy who played a pivotal role knocking a man by the name shankar who was the LTTE air wing leader. Sinhala people have been consistently returning Muslim MP’s to parliament like MH Mohommed-Borella, Bakeer Markar -Kalutara, Halim Ishak,Kabeer Hashim etc. And today we see the foreign minister Mr Ali Sabry doing his best for the country.Even MH Ashraff played a pivotal role in preventing the creation of a seperate Tamil state. For the Tamils , the muslims are the biggest threat to having the East merged with the North and laying the foundation for a Tamil state. I see that some people in the forum are calling Muslims as racists for claiming the East as a Muslim homeland, as if East belongs (also vanni for that matter) to Tamils. It is the sinhala kings who settled the displaced Muslims in the eastern Shores.

“In general the sinhala muslim relations are ok”

Of course okay for now on the surface. How long its going to stay that way?
You better acknowledge the problem that the Sinhalese minorities are not only a problem for themselves but also others and neighbours. You better deal with the minority the so called patriotic nationalists. By now you should have realised how far patriotic Sinha Le damaged this country, you included.
Then of course the Sinhala people must have reigned on the saffronistas and and the saffron leaders. They are supposed to deal with spiritualism, …. not mundane ….
Look at the shameless saffron thug Gnana, who feasted at Saudi Embassy. The last time I checked Saudi is still a Islamic Kingdom.

The majority never respected Hindia or Bangladesh. Well you know after January this year.

Mr Ravi Perera, there are hardly any Muslims in the Vanni and Vanni was part of the Jaffna kingdom proper as well as most of the Trincomalee district. King Senarath never settled any Muslims in the Vanni. Nor was it any part of the Sinhalese homeland, as now falsely claimed, using fake history. After the fall of the Jaffna kingdom, the eastern Tamil Vannimai Chiefdoms came under the loose control of the kings of Kandy, however, there is no dispute that these lands were ancient Tamil lands. Even this only lasted for a short time as the Portuguese and Dutch took control of these eastern Tamil lands.

        0

Now coming back to these Tamil Muslims, they were settled in these eastern Tamil lands, by the eastern Tamil Vannimai chieftains, at the request of King Senarath of Kandy, because the Sinhalese did not want any more of them living amongst them and started to attack them. When the Portuguese started to persecute these South Indian-origin Tamil Muslims along the northwest coast, they first fled to the neighbouring Kandyan kingdom, which was not under Portuguese control. However when more and more of them started to arrive, the Sinhalese got alarmed and did not want them and started to attack them. King Senarath in desperation asked the Tamil Vanniami chiefs in the east to settle these Tamil Muslims in the eastern Tamil lands, as they were ethnically Tamil and can blend in and their obliged, gave them land and even Hindu Tamil women to marry and settle down. This is how these Tamil Muslims arrived in the east a few centuries ago as refugees and now trying to claim large swathes of the east as their homeland over the heads of the native indigenous Eelam Tamils who gave them refuge, land and women to start a family. Accuracy and truth are appreciated.

King Senarath’s agents in the Eastern Coastal areas who were Tamils carried out orders to settle Muslims in the East since they had no choice. As for Muslims marrying Hindu women, hope they continue the trend. As for Muslims trying to claim large swathes of the east is no different to you Tamils asking for a homeland in Sri Lanka. Every inch of the island is the ancient homeland of the sinhalese.

If accuracy and truth are appreciated then look to Tamil Nadu as your homeland.

Except for a very small percentage of the population, all of us are settlers arriving rather late in the Christian era.
People have assumed identities under force of circumstances. Let us respect their choice.
Most of the land really belonged to vegetation, which we have collectively destroyed in great part.
Let us return the land to its owners whose roots covered every square inch of this fertile land, and sail back to where some of our ancestors came from.

        Rohan,

Talking about Vanni and large parts of Trinco being under Jaffna control, The existence of Jaffna kingdom was only about 300 yrs. We have ruled this territory before and after. The whole of North including Jaffna was part of the Pihiti Rata when Sri Lanka had 3 kingdom -Ruhunu, Maya and Pihiti.
Later on when there was Jaffna, Kandy and Kotte kingdoms.. For most parts Jaffna kingdom was a weak kingdom having to come under some sort of control of the kotte kings. So you can argue and counter argue but the fact remains all these areas that you tamils call ancient tamil lands, have been ruled before and after the existence of the jaffna kingdom,by the sinhalese. Infact there are no ancient tamil lands in Sri Lanka. You Tamils living here are no different to the tamils living in the adjoining states of Tamil Nadu.

About East, the Tamil mostly lived and are still living within 10 miles from the coast.
Now it is up to you Tamils to take the matter up internationally and prove that East (and vanni) belongs to you and is part of the fictitious Tamil homeland. Start with the embassies in Colombo.

Sinhala language is only 1300 years old. Sinhala Buddhism is a hybrid of Tamil- Hindu rituals (like praying deities, praying Kannagi and converting the Saiva Temple as Buddhist Temples -Dalada Maligawa is Krishnar Kovil & Perahera is Indra Vizha of Poompuhar) and a smaller Buddhist division called Theravada. All three kingdoms were always under control of TN’s Chola and Pandya kingdoms. The rulers in the three kingdoms were directly related to TN Royal families. Mahavamsa was a creative expansion of Thivu Vamsa, which was written by the nuns trained by the famous TN nun Manimehalai (Goddess Kannagi’s stepchild). Neither Sinhala Language nor Sinhala Buddhism exists without Tamil Language & Ceylon Saivam. Before Sinhala Language appeared in Ceylon, Sampanthar had written hymns in Tamil on Thirukkonamalai and Thiruketheeswaram.

Yes, there are Kathirgamers to authenticate your statement and witness for you, for the money you borrowed from China and distribute for committing crimes. I heard the part of Mahavamsa that a woman sleeping with a lion to create Sinhalams and Buddha flying to Langkang and creating Sinhala Buddhism and Appe Aanduwa ending the war with Zero faulty and the snake coming to Kelani Vihara to have the Hitler King elected. But I did not read your statement on anything called Tamil or English Media. Is this another story of 1958 that the Sinhala bodies cut into pieces were being flown to Colombo from Palai by Air Ceylon Planes? (For your info, it was our brothers from TN developed the Indian atomic bomb and launched the rocket to moon. Four of them have won Nobel Prizes, no other race in India has achieved it yet.)

The Telugu pandit Mahanama, who left Kanchi because of the religious war that was emerging there, sought refuge and installed a Tamils hating Buddhism in Ceylon. When the Buddhism was completely wiped of India by the Thirunavukarar’s Bakthi Markam, Ceylon started to hang on the coat tail of Thailand’s religion. In total, every part of the Sinhala Language & its Buddhism was only orphans & had nothing to claim as its original hereditary without Tamil. At rulers’ level, there was no Tamil – Sinhala division existing in Ceylon, until the end of Kandy Kingdom. But after Mahanama’ s refuge from Tamil Nadu, this new phenomenon that Tamis Vs Sinhala started at Bald Heads level. Thivu Vamsa does not show this nature hate.

Stop posting rubbish. Look at all the place names in the east prior to independence, every town village city mountain, and river have Tamil names. The interior of the east may have been sparsely populated compared to the coast, but that does not mean these areas were not Tamil. When the British demarcated the northern and eastern provinces as the historical and ancestral homelands of the indigenous Eelam Tamils, these were the lands that the Tamils from ancient times had historically inhabited and ruled and the Sinhalese Kandyan or others , had no claim, whatsoever. Even the remotest Sinhalese claim was considered favourable by the British and as a result, Pathavikulam now renamed Padaviya was taken out of the Tamil north and given to Sinhalese North Central Province. In the east ThambanKaddavai now renamed Tamankaduwa was taken out of the Tamil east and merged again with Polonarruwa district in the north-central province. The rest of the North and East were pure Tamil areas where the Sinhalese or anyone had any claim whatsoever.

            0

Now fake concocted history is being made up with the help of the authorities to claim, ancient Tamil areas in the north and east as Sinhalese and people who were given refuge a few centuries ago, because they were ethnically Tamil and had nowhere else to go, are now being urged by the authorities to claim for an Islamic State in the name of their religion and an imagined Arab origin. If they can have an Islamic State in the east then can do the same in the central province, in the deep south and along the western coast, where more than 70% of the island’s South Indian origin Tamil Muslims or Sri Lankan Moors live. The Sinhalese will now allow that and the Muslims will dare to demand but know they can get away with this unreasonable demand for an Islamic state in the ancient Tamil Hindu North and East, where there is no valid claim, as the Sri Lankan state deliberately wants muddy waters and deny the Tamils their homeland.
            .

Everywhere there are sparsely populated and highly populated areas. Then as per your argument, the sparsely populated Sinhalese interior areas like North Central province Uva etc are not historically Sinhalese as they hardly had any population and many parts of the central and Uva province should belong to the Estate Tamils as they cleared virgin jungles in these areas and created coffee/tea estates.

              • 0
                5

My argument was based on the fact the way Districts and Provincial boundaries were demarcated. In the initial provincial boundaries that were demarcated, Anuradhapura district was part of the North and Polonnaruwa was part of the East. In that scenario The Sinhala’s would have been an outright majority in the east due to polonnaruwa. When the new provincial boundaries were created large chunks of sparsely populated sinhala villages were annexed to relatively thickly populated Tamil areas to create the the illusion.

Now lets talk about Uva, why should many of the areas in Uva and central province belong to Indian Tamils (who have been given a new name called Upcountry tamils) who have been brought to work as slaves on Tea plantations. Great Sirimavo saw the danger that these slaves could pose to the sinhalese and packed a good population back to Tamil Nadu. Still we had to give a some of these fellows the Sri Lankan citizenship. But we managed to pack about 800,000 of the so called Lankan Tamils (who were known as Malabars till 1911) out of the country.

            • 1
              4

What ever you may say of the origins of the Lankan Muslims, the fact remains that they are a different group where the religion is the binding factor. More and more Muslims are studying in Sinhala. It is in the interest of the Muslims to side with the sinhalese. It is also in the interest of the sinhalese to make sure we get the muslims on our side. By and large that seems to be working well.

There are no ancient Tamil lands in Sri Lanka. If there are it is upto you tamils to take it up in the UN and prove it. Why are you thinking about Sri lankan government muddying the waters of your bugus homeland.

It is not me, it is you who is talking rubbish. All ancient tanks were built by Sinhalese Kings and Padaviya like most of the Lands in the North are Part of ancient Rajarata. The Tamil names you are refering to are names put by Tamil agents of the colonial rulers. It is the same in whole of east with Thamankaduwa. You Tamils do not have any claim to any part of the sinhale. As things stand today Trinco has 66% sinhala areas ( though the population is 28%) Then the Muslims control large chunks of Land. In Ampara 78% of the lands are sinhalese areas (inspite of the fact sinhalalese are 30% of the population.. For you it is colonisation, for us it is moving into our Purana sinhala areas. Now more and more sinhala people are being moved to Mullativu. Just accept man you are a defeated group of people.

Oh my, you really reek of racism and hatred for Thamizh. Strange especially coming from you, as your name is a dead giveaway of your ancestry. Read Professor Sudharsan Seniveratne one of the most renowned Archaeologists in Sri Lanka, has concluded from his recent groundbreaking studies, that community movement from what is now modern Tamil Nadu into Sri Lanka introduced iron use, redware pottery, Meghalithic graffiti, urn burials, irrigation and paddy cultivation before 1000 BC, Long before mythical Prince Vijaya and his 500 rowdy babies were banished from some La La land in North East India. These South Indian migrants first introduced the first village settlements including the Vel or Velir inscriptions. The migration of Thamizh and other Dravidian speakers into Sri Lanka continued unabated from 1100 BC until now and most of them assimilated into the Chingkalla identity. This is why most Chingkallams, especially the ones from the low country, are genetically very close to the South Indians, especially Thamizh than to any other people.

Lots of these ancient tanks were built both by Chingkalla and Thamizh kings, not just Chingkallams. Tank agriculture was introduced into the island from what is now modern Thamizh Nadu. Go to Thamizh Nadu and other parts of South India and you will see this. No one knows who built the Padaviya or Pathavi Kulam tank but it was rumoured to be built by an ancient Chingkalla king, and this is the reason like Rohan and before him Siva Sankaran stated, the British took it out of the Thamizh north and merged it with the newly created Chingkalla north central province, as the British, looked upon even the most remote and far fetched Chingkalla claim to the Thamizh lands in the north and east very favourably and decided in the favour of Chingkallams and handed or merged these disputed lands with Chingkalla provinces. What was then declared as Thamizh North and East provinces, as many have stated before is pure undisputed Eezham Thamizh that the Chingkallams had no claim to whatsoever.

                • 4
                  0

Now Chingkallams are using the state power and coming up with all sorts of history to steal these lands from the Thamizh. You have the state power and the power of the racist Chingkalla occu[ying armed forces and can declare 70% of Trincomalee district and 78% of Amparai district as Chingkalla lands and give it to the newly settled Chingkallams despite the fact 70% of the population of these two districts are Thamizh speakers. Even now send Chingkallams to Mullaitheevu to populate colonize and take over ancient Thamizh lands and Hindu temples armed with fake history and with the support of the Archaeological, land/Mahaveli departments and the armed forces. However now the Thamizh people their MPS have woken up in the north and east and despite the armed forces giving a tough fight and the international community is now closely watching these deliberate marginalizing, racist ethnic cleansing activities to destroy the island’s Thamizh and Thamizh Muslim in the name of Chingkalla Buddhism. If you want goodwill and aid for your bankrupt racist nation, Stop this racist rubbish that ruined the nation as you will not only destroy the Thamizh but yourselves too.

The Super Amman and Haider families are related. But are La Theef and Suppu Amman related? Genes sound similar in perception. When did La Theef’s family migrate to Yapa Pattunuwa from Kerala shores? La Theef has been setting fire in CT for long until Ranil Evil and Old Rowdy suspected set to bomb blasts in Tamil Churches. Ali Sabre did in UNHRC is, his best against Tamils on behalf of his masters. Last two years, from the time Communist Denish withdrawal from UN Resolution sponsoring of 30/1, every minister of the cabinet went to Qatar and SA. As Climax of it Ali Sabre went there too. GLP was fired and Ali Sabre was appointed as FAM, specifically for his visits to ME. Sabre wanted him to look like Sivagi in the Veerapandiya Katta Boman, at UN and UNHRC. So, Ali Sabre spent about a billion rupees on his make-up for those few days’ drama. But at the time of voting in UNHRC, the ME countries left the floor. Though Ali Sabre went with full make up, the Evil Emperor did not let him take clothes to hide shame at UN & UNHRC. So, no one paid any attention to his blabbering. In 2009, Thero de Silva rode on Indian rockets to harness ME votes.

Unlike Appe Aanduwa’s China’s $400B veto vote, Sonia’s India obtained free Middle East votes for Langkang. Karuna, Deva, Rishard, Hizballah, Hakeem & Cinema actresses did a much better job those days. GLP could not do anything better, but he did some better math instead of conceding like Ali. After the voting and resolution (40/1) was accepted, he added the countries abstained with those who rejected the resolution and claimed to Sinhala Modayas and Old Rowdy King that he won at UNHRC.

These guys are saying that China, Iran, Venezuela, Pakistan, ….. voted in favor of them. Pls, somebody help me to figure this out. If Ali did not go to Geneva, which side China, Iran, Veneziale, Pakistan, the gang of Pariah Nations, would have voted? I challenge Ali, if he can , could he make these countries vote against Langkang in 2024? The truth is these nations did not vote for Langkang but voted against America and the West, in the resolution about Ceylon. They are utilizing Langkang to settle their account with the West. It might be too hard for expert lawyers GLP & Ali to understand this point. In Thero de Silva time many UNHRC countries voted against (Specifically) President Bush. Now they are just voting against the West and capital Economy politics.

The Sinhalese ancestry is predicted as North Indian, as they speak and Indo Aryan language. however, historically it is very different. Except perhaps the oldest stratum of settlers prior to 200BC and even these setters went to the Tamil Pandian country and took Tamil women as wives, and what about all the indigenous Dravidian Naga and Yakka? All subsequent settlers to the island came from the south of India. Mostly from the ancient Tamil country, modern-day Tamil Nadu and Kerala and some from Orissa. In fact, some of the most Voiceferous ant Tamil castes amongst the Sinhalese, as seen here were the post-15th century migrants from then Tamil South India. Refer, Ganath Obeyasekera professor of anthropology Princeton University Professor of history KM De Silva The accommodation of groups of recent immigrants from and their absorption into the caste structure of the littoral saw the emergence of three new main Sinhalese castes the Salagama, Durawa, Karawa and many other castes, they came into the island in large numbers and in successive migrations even until the late 18th Century. Read the Mukkuva Hatana. The Karawa originate largely from Kanchepuran, Kilkarai and Kaveripatanam. They were brought in to fight the Mukkuva from then Tamil Kerala who were encamped at Kerala by king Parakrambahu.

Dr Paul E Pieris has published the extracts from the Portuguese Tombo which gives the original names of people like Fernando, Perera, Mendis Etc. Names before they converted to Christianity and many later to Buddhism and adopted European names. Fernando is the most popular name. The native name is also given and here are some of the following. Vira Cutti( Kutti), Parama Cutti, Nila Cutti, Sembaga Perumal, Adambara Perumal, Nahepulle, Avepulle, etc. The list goes on. These points to South Indian origin. Pure Sinhalese names are very rare. Important information regarding South Indian tribes who are found on the coast of Ceylon eg. Mukkuvas, Moors, Chaleas( Salagama later), Chettis, and Achari This is supplied by Durate Barbosa( the Ceylon littoral 1593). You can see even the Portuguese used the name ” Moor” not in a racial context but in a religious context as the only Muslims they met were the Moors from North Africa, who ruled the Iberian peninsular for around 1000 years. They correctly classified them as a South Indian-origin Tamil tribe like the rest.

        Rohan,

” In fact, some of the most Voiceferous ant Tamil castes amongst the Sinhalese, as seen here were the post-15th century migrants from then Tamil South India.”

Most of the Coastal belt Sinhalese have their origins to present day Kerala. The total population of these 3 castes among the sinhalese is less than 9%. Besides they are fully assimilated and integrated. So if you try to trace back to their original roots it is highly likely that this is probably less than 4%. If not we may have had a Malayalee speaking community along the coast. But they also show some of the vibrant ways of the Malayalee’s. There is a small percentage among sinhalese who are stingy, ugly etc. These are probably people of T… origins.

You also refer to Kerala as Tamil Kerala. Keralites do not refer to them as Tamil Keralites, what ever their origins may be. This is like calling the Muslims in Sri Lanka Tamil Muslims

Sorry, this was posted before I could divide the paragraphs. This was very easy as the vast majority of the population was illiterate, at that time, therefore when modern education started they were taught this new version of the language at schools now called Malayalam. The Karawa, Durawa, Salagama and other South Indian origin castes like the Hunu , Berewa etc are not 9% of the modern Sinhalese population but around 35-40% and along the coast, they are the majority. Add to these many upper caste Govigamma both low country and Kandyan and Kandyan Radala families most of whom are also of recent South Indian immigrant origin. I do not have to state the names, most of these Sinhalese families who had ruled the island from the time of independence and ruined the country with their racism and opportunism are recently Sinhalised immigrant South Indians. This will bring the percentage of modern Sinhalese of recent South Indian origin to more than 50% and add to this all the descendants from ancient and medieval South Indian migrants, mercenaries and invaders who all settled down and gradually got Sinhalised the percentage of South Indian Tamil ancestry amongst modern Sinhalese will be around 70% or more.

Are you aware that your famous Sapumal Kumaraya who ruled the kingdom of Kotte and the Jaffna kingdom for a very brief period is the son of Tamil Karaiyar leader Manicka Thalaivar, from what is modern Tamil Nadu, who fought for King Parakramabahu VI against the Mukkuva Padai from what it’s modern Kerala? He died fighting for the king but won the battle. He was adopted by the king as his son and later ruled the kingdoms of Kotte and Jaffna very briefly. Many of your Sinhalese Generals and journals, who fought the war against the LTTE and now making anti-Tamil statements and comments are the direct descendants of these Tamil Karaiyar and other immigrants who came from modern Tamil Nadu during this era. Many of the Karaiyar or now Karawe caste especially around Colombo, Negombo and the western coast intermarried into the Portuguese and other whites and many of the Mestizos of half-castes that came from them, now call themselves Sinhalese too. The name or title Waduge or Baduge comes from the Telugu-origin Tamil Vaddukar soldiers Weerakody from the Tamil Weerakotiyar trader immigrants. Hettiarachchi or Hettige from the Tamil Chetti traders. These are just a few names

If I give the full list it will be thousands. You can see these descendants of these original Tamil Karaiyar Kurukula clans still maintaining their ancient Hindu Tamil identity and way of life around the Tamil villages in Udappu next to the ancient Muneswaram Kovil, whilst their close relatives who converted to Catholicism and Buddhism have all become now ardent Sinhalese. Strangely the original Kurukula Karaiyar or Karawe clan flag is still in the hands of a group of Kurukula Karaiyar group. who like the Tamil Muslims from the northwest coast, fled to the east and settled down around Manampiti or Manampitya. This s is the Malayalam version of the Tamil song from Ponnoyin Selvan. It is sung in the ancient Malayalam dialect or language that was spoken around 1000-500 years ago. The old Chera Tamil Malayalam dialect. You can see it basically another version of Tamil. I rest my case. This dialect is very close to Sangam Tamil. This is worth a thousand words and comments.

Mr Perera. Kerala a few centuries ago was ancient Thamizh Chera Nadu and the present day Malayalam language, identity and ethnicity are just a few centuries old. When all this migration to the island took place, the people of Kerala were still Tamil. Even now despite all the deliberate Sanskritization, even modern Malayalam, especially the spoken dialect is almost a form of Thamizh, however, they tend to use more old and middle Thamizh words, compared to modern Thamizh. Yes, lots of migration, especially Mukuva came from the old Chera Thamizh land or modern Kerala, but most of the ancestors of the present-day Chingkalla Karawa, Salagama, Durawa and many other castes like Hunu, Hali, Berewa migrated from what is modern Thamizh Nadu. They are not around 9% of the present-day Chingkallams but more around 40% and are the majority along the western, northwestern and southern littorals. If you add all the recently Chingkalized low and high borns South Indian immigrants. amongst the present-day Chingkallams, it will be more than 50%.

The largest population in the east are the Hindu Thamizh Mukkuva, most eastern Thamizh belong to this community and 99% of the eastern Muslims on their maternal side are also of this ancestry. However, unlike these recently Chingkalised Mukkuva along the western and southern coast, whose ancestors migrated to the island from what is now modern Kerala, a few centuries ago. These eastern Thamizh Mukkuva Hindus migrated to the island again from ancient Thamizh Chera Nadu more than two thousand years ago and established settlements. There are Mukkuva settlements even in Southern Thamizh Nadu, however, these Mukkuvas, just like the ones in eastern Sri Lanka have retained their ancient Thamizh identity, the ones in Kerala now speak the modern Malayalam language and along the western and southern Sri Lankan coast Sinhalese. The great difference is that the Tamil Mukkuvas living in Eastern Sri Lanka have become a very powerful community and have largely remained Hindu and even migrated inland owning large amounts of land and becoming farmers. In contrast, the Mukkuvas of Kerala, Tamil Nadu, and even the ones living along the western/southern coasts of Sri Lanka have largely now converted to Christianity, Islam and Buddhism( Sri Lanka) and have become a downtrodden community.
