\"\"<\/a>Shavendra Silva named Adele Balasingham and Visvanathan Rudrakumaran as two of those enjoying freedom in the West in spite of their involvement with the LTTE. The Deputy Ambassador Maj. Gen. Shavendra Silva was responding to Human Rights Watch\u2019s assertion that LTTE military leaders couldn\u2019t be held accountable as they had perished during the war. Adele lives in the UK, while US-based Rudrakumaran heads an LTTE faction spearheading a campaign for separate state in Northern and Eastern Provinces in Sri Lanka. The government insists that the killing of the top LTTE leadership shouldn\u2019t free those LTTE operatives living abroad, particularly in Europe and North America of accountability for three decades of violence.<\/p>\n

Silva last night boasted with the President Rajapakse when he arrived yesterday (19th<\/sup>) \u00a0in New York, that he took up this position during a recent meeting with senior representatives of the US-based Human Rights Watch to discuss the accountability issues in Sri Lanka. The delegation comprised Ambassador Dr. Palitha Kohona and Deputy Ambassador Maj. Gen. Shavendra Silva. When boasting Silva has forgotten that taking such a position mean, he accepts the position \u201cpunishing himself and other war criminals in Sri Lanka is legitimate\u201dtooThe External Affairs Ministry\u00a0sources said.<\/p>\n

Sri Lanka urged the HRW to push foreign governments to prosecute top LTTE representatives living in their territories. Adele Balasingham lives in London .She is the widow of Anton Balasingham, a Sri Lankan with British citizenship who was the chief political strategist of the Tamil Tigers until he died in 2006.<\/p>\n

Adele, an Australian-born nurse, met and married him while he was living in London in the Seventies. She became deeply involved in the Tigers’ cause – ending up as the leader of its women soldiers and nicknamed “Aunty” on the island.<\/p>\n

An undated video of Adele Balasingham, showing her in camouflage fatigues and presiding over a parade of female child soldiers, has been circulated to confirm her status as one of the movement’s most influential figures.<\/p>\n
