{"id":102689,"date":"2013-08-30T02:12:43","date_gmt":"2013-08-29T20:42:43","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.colombotelegraph.com\/?p=102689"},"modified":"2013-09-03T21:39:03","modified_gmt":"2013-09-03T16:09:03","slug":"after-navi-troops-are-back-in-the-north","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.colombotelegraph.com\/index.php\/after-navi-troops-are-back-in-the-north\/","title":{"rendered":"After Navi: Troops Are Back In The North"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-size: 13px; line-height: 19px;\">Security forces personnel who were confined to barracks in the northern province have returned to their outposts and are back on the streets after visiting UN Envoy <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.colombotelegraph.com\/?s=Navi+Pillay&amp;x=10&amp;y=6\">Navi Pillay<\/a><\/span> left the area, according to eyewitness reports from the region.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.colombotelegraph.com\/index.php\/after-navi-troops-are-back-in-the-north\/navi-2\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-102690\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-102690\" title=\"Navi\" src=\"https:\/\/www.colombotelegraph.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/Navi1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"464\" height=\"259\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.colombotelegraph.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/Navi1.jpg 464w, https:\/\/www.colombotelegraph.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/Navi1-300x167.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 464px) 100vw, 464px\" \/><\/a>While the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights travelled extensively in the north including the former <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.colombotelegraph.com\/?s=LTTE&amp;x=9&amp;y=4\">LTTE<\/a><\/span> stronghold of the Wanni, the heavily garrisoned province was somewhat bereft of armed forces personnel who have become part and parcel of the scenery post-war in the north.<\/p>\n<p>The Elephant Pass checkpoint that was dismantled ahead of the UN High Commissioner&#8217;s visit has also been restored, sources told the <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.colombotelegraph.com\/\">Colombo Telegraph<\/a><\/span>. &#8220;Troops are out on the roads again in Jaffna,&#8221; the sources said.<\/p>\n<p>Reports are also emerging about military intelligence officials threatening Tamil civilians who demonstrated for their disappeared loved ones and held discussions with the UN Envoy. These claims cannot be independently verified at this time.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.colombotelegraph.com\/?s=Militarisation&amp;x=10&amp;y=5\">Militarisation<\/a><\/span> of the north has been a hot button issue on the international agenda against Sri Lanka, because the heavy presence of soldiers in the former battlezones are seen as being an impediment to the resumption of normal civilian life in the region.
