{"id":105728,"date":"2013-09-15T00:01:37","date_gmt":"2013-09-14T18:31:37","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.colombotelegraph.com\/?p=105728"},"modified":"2013-09-20T13:55:15","modified_gmt":"2013-09-20T08:25:15","slug":"poll-related-violence-lower-in-north-than-in-other-two-provinces","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.colombotelegraph.com\/index.php\/poll-related-violence-lower-in-north-than-in-other-two-provinces\/","title":{"rendered":"Poll Related Violence: Lower In North Than In Other Two Provinces"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A recent study of of pre-election conditions in the Northern Province by the <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.colombotelegraph.com\/?s=Centre+for+Monitoring+Election+Violence&amp;x=12&amp;y=6\">Centre for Monitoring Election Violence<\/a><\/span> (CMEV) found that poll related violence was lower in the north than in the other two provinces that will poll\u00a0next Saturday\u00a0and that people in the region did not foresee major impact on their long term way of life.<\/p>\n<div>\n<div id=\"attachment_91754\" style=\"width: 97px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.colombotelegraph.com\/index.php\/event-invitation-sri-lanka-and-the-culture-of-impunity\/sara-colombo-telegraph-3\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-91754\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-91754\" class=\" wp-image-91754  \" title=\"Sara - Colombo Telegraph\" src=\"https:\/\/www.colombotelegraph.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/06\/Sara-Colombo-Telegraph.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"87\" height=\"113\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-91754\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Dr Paikiasothy Saravanamuttu - Co-Convenor CMEV<\/p><\/div>\n<p>The CMEV study published on 13 September analyses people\u2019s attitudes towards elections in general and the obstacles, if any, to ensuring a free and fair election in the unique socio-political circumstances prevalent in the five districts of the Northern Province.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>The study found that although the level of enthusiasm for elections, specific concerns and the experience of individuals varied from one district to the other and even between urban and rural areas in the same district, there were several\u00a0recurring themes which were common across all districts.
