US Green Card Lottery Program Starts Tomorrow"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The U.S. Embassy Colombo today announced that the 2015 Diversity Visa Lottery Program, also known as the \u201cGreen Card Lottery,\u201d will start accepting online applications\u00a0from\u00a09:30PM\u00a0local Sri Lankan time\u00a0on October 1, 2013, until 9:30PM on November 2, 2013.\u00a0 The Diversity Visa Lottery\u00a0is an annual program that\u00a0allows randomly selected applicants\u00a0who were born in qualifying countries \u2013 including Sri Lanka and Maldives \u2013 the\u00a0opportunity to interview for an immigrant visa, and if they are\u00a0qualified for immigrant visas, to become legal permanent residents of the United States.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 13px; line-height: 19px;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.colombotelegraph.com\/index.php\/2015-us-green-card-lottery-program-starts-tomorrow\/us-7\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-108210\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" line-height: 19px;\">A few suggestions to keep in mind:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u00b7\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0The lottery application period is\u00a0only\u00a0open from October 1, 2013 to November 2, 2013;<\/p>\n<p>\u00b7\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0The lottery is only open to people born in certain countries, including Sri Lanka and Maldives;<\/p>\n<p>\u00b7\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0You may only apply once; multiple entries will result in disqualification;<\/p>\n<p>\u00b7\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0You must meet either the educational or the work requirement qualification for the Diversity Visa program, so please make sure you qualify before applying;<\/p>\n<p>\u00b7\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0After submitting the online application, you will receive a confirmation number, which you must keep in order to check if you have been selected for a visa interview.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 13px; line-height: 19px;\">The online application is\u00a0<\/span><strong style=\"font-size: 13px; line-height: 19px;\">completely free<\/strong><span style=\"font-size: 13px; line-height: 19px;\">\u00a0\u2013 there are\u00a0<\/span><strong style=\"font-size: 13px; line-height: 19px;\">no hidden costs<\/strong><span style=\"font-size: 13px; line-height: 19px;\">.\u00a0 Beware of scams and persons or companies making claims of affiliation with the U.S. Government, or those who promise improved odds of selection.\u00a0 You do not need 3<\/span><sup style=\"line-height: 19px;\">rd<\/sup><span style=\"font-size: 13px; line-height: 19px;\">\u00a0party assistance to complete and submit an application.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong style=\"font-size: 13px; line-height: 19px;\">Notifications and next steps<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Beginning May 2014, applicants may go online to\u00a0<a>www.dvlottery.state.gov<\/a>\u00a0to see if they have been selected for a\u00a0visainterview.\u00a0 If selected, the interview will be with a U.S. Consular
