Can you hear me?<\/p>\n

Is this cacophony too loud?<\/p>\n

In Colombo, Paris, Chennai, Toronto and London,<\/p>\n

the Brothers, siblings and masters,<\/p>\n

in tongues that speak of deafening half-truths,<\/p>\n

concoct flawed histories of terror and relief.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Buried deeply under my homelands,<\/p>\n

my story, my suffering, my blood,<\/p>\n

vanishing beyond the senses\u2019 reach,<\/p>\n

long lost in other stories,<\/p>\n

about nations and sovereignties,<\/p>\n

about humanitarianism and genocide.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

In garbs made of my precious memories,<\/p>\n

hijacked, amputated and tailored,<\/p>\n

of a not-so-distant past,<\/p>\n

our lords and lands appear gorily guarded.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

In the silence of the night I dream aloud,<\/p>\n

of flesh pieces swimming in hot crimson blood,<\/p>\n

of scarred bones and skulls,<\/p>\n

of children starving and weeping,<\/p>\n

of my fugitive self charting an escape route from armed four-legged men,<\/p>\n

of strange, fire-spitting birds encircling the terror-struck sky,<\/p>\n

of leaky shelters and barbed-fences,<\/p>\n

of betrayal and enslavement.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

\u201cUsh! Dirty dreams! Banned, don\u2019t you know?\u201d<\/p>\n

in stately fashion,<\/p>\n

boot-wearing guardians,<\/p>\n

dragging my head off the filthy mats of the past,<\/p>\n

steal my nocturnal freedoms;<\/p>\n

my nightmare melts and melts into the hot, stifling air,<\/p>\n

but soil-lovers rush past me<\/p>\n

to swiftly pick up threads that they find useful.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Homeless, lifeless and limbless,<\/p>\n

now my dreams stolen and butchered too;<\/p>\n

but I have some linen,<\/p>\n

unclean, blood-stained and shit-smelling,<\/p>\n

for four full years and more\u2026<\/p>\n

Can I wash them tomorrow<\/p>\n

at the CHOGM,<\/p>\n

in the presence of all the kings of empires dead and alive,<\/p>\n

at our altars where my siblings chant in resolute cries, \u201cBoycott!\u201d<\/p>\n

in public,<\/p>\n

in broad daylight,<\/p>\n

for justice, truth and history\u2019s sake?<\/p>\n
