{"id":115505,"date":"2013-11-22T15:09:21","date_gmt":"2013-11-22T09:39:21","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.colombotelegraph.com\/?p=115505"},"modified":"2013-12-01T17:04:23","modified_gmt":"2013-12-01T11:34:23","slug":"tax-break-for-louis-vitton-products-must-be-for-benefit-of-rajapaksa-family-members-harsha","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.colombotelegraph.com\/index.php\/tax-break-for-louis-vitton-products-must-be-for-benefit-of-rajapaksa-family-members-harsha\/","title":{"rendered":"Tax Break For Louis Vitton Products Must Be For Benefit Of Rajapaksa Family Members: Harsha"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>UNP Economic Affairs Spokesman Harsha De Silva yesterday issued a scathing criticism of the Government&#8217;s 2014 budget, saying it catered to Georgio Armani wearing super rich classes of people in the country while placing the entire tax burden on the poor man.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_69401\" style=\"width: 210px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.colombotelegraph.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/01\/Harsha-de-Silva-1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-69401\" class=\"size-full wp-image-69401\" alt=\"Dr Harsha de Silva MP\" src=\"https:\/\/www.colombotelegraph.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/01\/Harsha-de-Silva-1.jpg\" width=\"200\" height=\"200\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.colombotelegraph.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/01\/Harsha-de-Silva-1.jpg 200w, https:\/\/www.colombotelegraph.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/01\/Harsha-de-Silva-1-150x150.jpg 150w, https:\/\/www.colombotelegraph.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/01\/Harsha-de-Silva-1-50x50.jpg 50w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 200px) 100vw, 200px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-69401\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Dr Harsha de Silva MP<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Reacting to yesterday&#8217;s Budget presented by the President in Parliament, De Silva said that the Government had inexplicably decided to remove import duties on designer brands like Louis Vitton, Georgio Armani and Salvadore Ferragano.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;A member of the royal family recently told a local newspaper that he only wears Louis Vitton belts and shoes &#8211; each of these cost USD 600 or USD 1200 at minimum &#8211; the tax waiver must be for their benefit,&#8221; the UNP MP charged in a reference to President Rajapaksa&#8217;s youngest son, Rohitha Rajapaksa&#8217;s pronouncements in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.colombotelegraph.com\/index.php\/censorship-presidential-offspring-referee-beater-rohitha-rajapaksa-on-buzz-with-daily-mirror\/\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">an interview with the Daily Mirror<\/span><\/a> a few months ago.<\/p>\n<p>The Government had increased taxes on salt, sugar, dhal and the salmon tin, directly affecting the common man, de Silva said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Who asked the Government to reduce taxes on designer brands? How many of us wear Ferragano ties and Hugo Boss perfume?
