Former Director General of the Media Centre for National Security(MCNS), Lakshman Hulugalle<\/span><\/a>, recently caught in a storm of controversy over an illicit liaison is been treated at the Intensive Care Unit of Lanka Hospitals in Colombo after an alleged overdose of anti depression pills which confidants claim was an attempted suicide.<\/p>\n

Lakshman Hulugalle<\/p><\/div>\n

Hulugalle, also referred to as \u2018Hula\u2019 was relieved from his duties as the Director General of the MCNS earlier this month after a scandal involving the transfer of 23 policemen from the Organised Crimes Division who raised a Town Hall casino allegedly run by his paramour. President Mahinda Rajapaksa dissolved the MCNS retroactively from November 1st after racy details about Hulugalle\u2019s liaison with businessman Gamini Nettikumara\u2019s spouse came to light and he was found to have abused his power in a bid to rescue his paramour.<\/p>\n

Hulugalle is a staunch supporter of Defence Secretary, Gotabaya Rajapaksa. The former continues to hold his posts as a director at the National Livestock Development Board and the Commercial Bank.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile Colombo Telegraph learns that Hulugalle claimed that he had overdosed on several dozen of\u00a0anti depression\u00a0tablets. In Sri Lanka suicides rates, although down compared to the 90\u2019s, are still high enough to cause concern, as at least one case is reported in newspapers every week.
