{"id":118954,"date":"2014-01-26T04:11:16","date_gmt":"2014-01-25T22:41:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.colombotelegraph.com\/?p=118954"},"modified":"2014-02-02T02:48:20","modified_gmt":"2014-02-01T21:18:20","slug":"pressure-on-justice-sriskandarajahs-family-to-change-funeral-arrangements","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.colombotelegraph.com\/index.php\/pressure-on-justice-sriskandarajahs-family-to-change-funeral-arrangements\/","title":{"rendered":"Pressure On Justice Sriskandarajah&#8217;s Family To Change Funeral Arrangements"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The funeral of Justice <a href=\"https:\/\/www.colombotelegraph.com\/?s=Sriskandarajah&amp;x=11&amp;y=7\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Sriskandarajah<\/span><\/a> is scheduled for this morning at the General Cemetery, Borella,\u00a0 where\u00a0 several speakers including the Bar Association President and the acting President of Court of Appeal had been requested by the family to deliver funeral orations.\u00a0 President Rajapaksa did not appoint Justice Sriskandarajah to the Supreme Court on several occasions,\u00a0 though he was the President of the Court of Appeal. Justice Sriskandarajah presided over the Court of Appeal bench which set aside the impeachment findings of the Parliamentary Select Committee recommending the removal of the 43rd Chief Justice, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.colombotelegraph.com\/?s=Shirani+Bandaranayake&amp;x=10&amp;y=7\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Shirani Bandaranayaka<\/span><\/a>. The Bar Council of the Bar Association, the representative body of bar, expressed their sorrow at today&#8217;s Council meeting over the death of Justice Sriskandarajah.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_118816\" style=\"width: 93px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.colombotelegraph.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/Justice-Sriskandaraja-a.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-118816\" class=\" wp-image-118816 \" alt=\"Justice Sriskandarajah\" src=\"https:\/\/www.colombotelegraph.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/Justice-Sriskandaraja-a.jpg\" width=\"83\" height=\"100\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-118816\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Justice Sriskandarajah<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Despite the previous intimations, the family of the late Justice Sriskandarajah has now indicated to the acting President of the Court of Appeal and the President of the Bar Association that their family is under threat over possible criticism of the government during funeral orations, and that therefore they do not wish to have any orations at the funeral.
