The Northern Provincial Council<\/span><\/a> is readying to move a resolution to prevent military involvement<\/span><\/a> in civil and educational activities in the North, with provincial education being one of the devolved subjects on the provincial councils list.<\/p>\n

The Uthayan newspaper reported yesterday that after a meeting with the French ambassador, the Chairman of the Northern Provincial Council, and TNA member C V J Sivagnanam, outlined that the resolution was being discussed and drafted within the Council leadership.<\/p>\n

Sivagnanam had stressed the need for the Northern Provincial Council to regain control over the schools under its administration, as the military presence and involvement in civil activities was inhibiting freedom of expression in the North-East.<\/p>\n
