Sinhala expatriate groups and individuals in Australia, Britain, Canada, the Middle East, New Zealand and the United States say that they have \u201cpetitioned the Sri Lanka Government to seek the extradition of Adele Balasingham<\/span><\/a> from the UK and put her on trial in Sri Lanka for her terrorist activity and crimes against humanity spanning three decades.\u201d<\/p>\n

Adel Balasingham, the widow of the LTTE<\/span><\/a> advisor, Anton Balasingham<\/span><\/a>, a former employee of the British High Commission in Colombo, is now in living in London.<\/p>\n

The petitioners Society for Peace, Unity and Human Rights in Sri Lanka- Victoria, Society for Peace , Unity and Human Rights in Sri Lanka- NSW, Society for Peace, Unity and Human Rights in Sri Lanka- Queensland, Society for Peace ,Unity and Human Rights in Sri Lanka- New Zealand, Western Australia Society for Peace and Rehabilitation., Australian Federation of Sri Lanka Associations\u00a0 NSW, Lanka Friendship Forum- ME, Helabima \u2013 UAE, Sinhala Association\u00a0 UK, Ranviru Fund UK and United Sri Lankans\u00a0 UK say\u00a0\u00a0\u201cMrs Balasingham was instrumental in recruiting and training hundreds of child soldiers to sacrifice their lives for a terrorist cause and teaching them to use a cyanide capsule to kill themselves if captured. There is a huge dossier of evidence of her crimes and terrorist activity.\u201d<\/p>\n

The petitioners insist that, \u201cnotwithstanding Sri Lanka’s policy of restorative justice towards terrorist combatants, Mrs Balasingham be tried for the atrocities she has committed and been associated with. \u201c<\/p>\n

They say; \u201cBesides bringing justice to thousands of her victims and their families, Mrs Balasingham’s extradition and trial will serve as a salutary warning to Western governments that Sri Lanka’s tolerance of threats and the disproportionate focus on human rights and alleged war crimes is not infinite while they continue to shelter terrorists and war criminals on their shores and turn a blind eye to their fund-raising and propaganda.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt will also compel the Western media to focus on the atrocities by the LTTE over three decades rather than on allegations of Sri Lanka’s war crimes in the last stages of the conflict.<\/p>\n

\u201cBalasingham’s extradition and trial will also serve notice to members of organisations such as the Global Tamil Forum<\/span><\/a> and the Transnational Government of Tamil Eelam<\/span><\/a>, the kingpins of the present anti-Sri Lanka propaganda offensive, and other LTTE-rumps, that a similar fate could await them.”<\/p>\n
