\u201cI have known Mr. Dhanapala for many years. I have always known him as a man of great integrity and independence. I would therefore give him the benefit of the doubt and would not want to make any judgment until I know all the facts and have heard his version of this whole dilemma,\u201d wrote Radhika Coomaraswamy<\/span><\/a>, in response to a request for comment, from Colombo Telegraph, on what has been characterized by others, as an \u201cethically untenable\u201d position Ambassador Jayantha Dhanapala<\/span><\/a> is in, as a director of Dialog Axiata PLC and a member of the Friday Forum.<\/p>\n

Radhika Coomaraswamy<\/p><\/div>\n

Friday Forum member Coomaraswamy\u2019s position is that, \u201cThe only facts we know have been presented by CT and of course you are a party to the conflict.\u201d<\/p>\n

There are, however, no facts that are in dispute. There is no dispute that Ambasidor Dhanapala is a director of Dialog Axiata PLC. Neither is there a dispute that he is a key member of Friday Forum.<\/p>\n

A few days ago, Dr.\u00a0Paikiasothy Saravanamuttu<\/span><\/a>\u00a0said,\u00a0 \u201cGiven the information now in the public realm<\/span><\/a>,\u00a0 I believe that the two positions \u2013 one within Dialog which blocks Colombo Telegraph and the other within Friday Forum which champions democratic governance \u2013 are incompatible. In that position, I would choose between them.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

“I am at the moment in New York teaching at NYU and have not met Mr. Dhanapala. However I completely agree that the blocking of your website is a complete violation of freedom of expression and a denial of the public’s right to know.” Coomaraswamy further said.<\/p>\n
