Tensions have continued throughout the night spilling over to the Welipenna<\/span><\/a> area with 12 houses reportedly burnt by Sinhalese mobs, according to reports from the ground.<\/p>\n

Confirmed reports now say that 3 houses were burnt while several others were attacked by goons rnumbering around 500, who were armed with petrol bombs and swords.<\/span><\/p>\n

The mobs have torched the houses completely with the people feeling to the nearby mosques as a result of the violence.<\/span><\/p>\n

\"Muslim<\/a>Although last nights the situation was brought under control sporadic violence has continued throughout the night despite the heavy Military presence, the Colombo Telegraph learns.<\/p>\n

Yesterday ended with Politicians of all parties swarming in to Aluthgama<\/span><\/a> and adjoining areas.<\/p>\n

Sources of the STF speaking to the Colombo Telegraph revealed that the “Sinhalese mobs” had gathered and attempted re- enter Aluthgama and Dharga town but were chased away by the STF.\u00a0Few youth who were arrested and handed over the Police were released later after pressure from “the top” according to highly placed Police sources.\u00a0The Police had showed their disapproval at the attempt to release those arrested,but were compelled to release them as they had been informed that the arrests could trigger a further bout of violence.\u00a0Police spokesman Ajith Rohana speaking to the media confirmed that no arrests have been made with regard to the riots or the murder.<\/span><\/p>\n

The Muslim parties had reportedly convened an urgent meeting but the outcome of the meeting nor if the meeting took lace is unclear.<\/span><\/p>\n

Dry rations and medical supplies are currently being sent the affected areas with Sinhalese and Muslims in Colombo contributing to the relief measures.<\/p>\n

The government has not yet provided any relief to the affected people, although the Disaster Management Centre (DMC) was quoted by media as saying that they were looking into the matter.<\/p>\n

The violence however has now been confined to Aluthgama and surrounding areas with no overnight incidents being reported from any other area of the country, yet.<\/p>\n

Earlier three shops in Badulla were stoned and an incident was reported from Mawanella.<\/p>\n

Journalists from the local media speaking to the Colombo Telegraph said that none of their coverage was carried on any TV or print media.<\/p>\n

Video Journalists who visited the affected areas yesterday told us that ” not a single channel carried our footage”. They also said that entire Muslim businesses and houses were “burnt down to ashes”.<\/p>\n

Muslims have taken refuge in all surrounding mosques.<\/p>\n

The government of Sri Lanka is yet to make a statement condemning the violence and have not taken any action against the perpetrators.<\/p>\n

The funerals of two persons killed in the attack were held yesterday in Aluthgama. The two men aged 30 and 38 were killed as a result of ” haemorrhage” resulting from blows to the “head” according to the post morterm.<\/p>\n

No arrests have been made in connection to the murders thus far.<\/p>\n
