Police today claimed investigations have revealed the cuts on Watareka Vijitha<\/span><\/a> thera \u2013 a monk, who was highly critical of the\u00a0Bodu Bala Sena<\/span><\/a> (BBS), are self-inflicted.<\/p>\n

Addressing media at a press conference today, Police Spokesman SSP Ajith Rohana had stated that investigations led by the Colombo Crimes Division have revealed this fact and it has been confirmed by the confessions of the monk himself.<\/p>\n

He said the contradictions in the statements made to the investigation team by the monk had raised suspicions and careful analyses of the monk\u2019s mobile phone records and CCTV footage had revealed his claims did not add-up.<\/p>\n

SSP Rohana went on to state thereafter, the Vijitha thera had confessed to inflicting the wounds using a keys and blades. \u201cMoreover, the JMO reports too have confirmed the wounds are self-inflicted.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Spokesman had also stated that the probe has disclose that that Vijitha thera had been dropped off in Panadura by a relative and that it was not a lorry, as stated by the monk during his initial statement to the Police upon being discovered in Bandaragama with his arms and legs tied by his robe.<\/p>\n

The Police had furthermore stated that legal action will be taken against Vijitha thera for making false complaints.<\/p>\n
