“The extremist Buddhist group,\u00a0Bodu Bala Sena<\/span><\/a> has clearly violated the Prevention of Terrorism Act and other relevant sections of the Penal Code\u201d the President of Bar Association of Sri Lanka, Upul Jayasuriya<\/span><\/a> told Colombo Telegraph.<\/span><\/p>\n

Upul Jayasuriya said; \u201cIt is said that several arrests have been made by the police. It could be 41 or 44. It is not important. They are the tip of the iceberg. It is the duty of the authorities to apprehend those who instigated them at a public rally making inflammatory speeches. These speeches are now in the public domain and on you tube. The hate speeches they made publicly are horrendous<\/span><\/a>. It is known that several responsible people pleaded with the Police not to allow them to hold such public meeting making hate speeches violating provisions of the Prevention of Terrorism Act and other relevant sections of the Penal Code. Instead they were given Police protection. They were unperturbed. We have brought this situation to the notice of the Hon. The Attorney General by way of two appeals dated 20th may and 4th June. These appeals were of no avail.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThese persons should be dealt with in accordance with these provisions irrespective of their political clout. All are equal before Law. No one is above the Law. No one can be treated in a special manner with immunity. They cannot be provided with immunity or state protection.\u201d he further said.<\/p>\n
