{"id":127545,"date":"2014-07-08T20:34:01","date_gmt":"2014-07-08T15:04:01","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.colombotelegraph.com\/?p=127545"},"modified":"2014-07-17T00:34:55","modified_gmt":"2014-07-16T19:04:55","slug":"journo-rajpal-wanted-behind-bars-questioned-over-shady-rriot-death-toll","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.colombotelegraph.com\/index.php\/journo-rajpal-wanted-behind-bars-questioned-over-shady-rriot-death-toll\/","title":{"rendered":"Journo Rajpal Wanted Behind Bars, Questioned Over Shady Rriot Death Toll"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Al-Jazeera correspondent for Sri Lanka, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.colombotelegraph.com\/?s=Dinouk+Colombage&amp;x=7&amp;y=4\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Dinouk Colombage<\/span><\/a> was grilled by the Criminal Investigation Division (CID) yesterday, just weeks after Rajapaksa state-owned newspaper Editor, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.colombotelegraph.com\/?s=Rajpal+Abeynayake&amp;x=10&amp;y=5\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Rajpal Abeynayake<\/span><\/a> called for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.colombotelegraph.com\/index.php\/rajapaksa-state-media-editor-calls-for-al-jazeera-reporter-to-be-locked-up\/\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">his arrest<\/span><\/a>.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_115228\" style=\"width: 160px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.colombotelegraph.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/11\/Dinouk-Colombage-Colombo-Telegraph-.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-115228\" class=\"size-thumbnail wp-image-115228\" alt=\"Dinouk Colombage\" src=\"https:\/\/www.colombotelegraph.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/11\/Dinouk-Colombage-Colombo-Telegraph--150x150.jpg\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.colombotelegraph.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/11\/Dinouk-Colombage-Colombo-Telegraph--150x150.jpg 150w, https:\/\/www.colombotelegraph.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/11\/Dinouk-Colombage-Colombo-Telegraph--50x50.jpg 50w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 150px) 100vw, 150px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-115228\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Dinouk Colombage<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Colombage\u2019s lawyers have stated that the CID has interrogated him concerning the reports he filed to Al-Jazeera and a Twitter update he had posted on the ground situation in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.colombotelegraph.com\/?s=Aluthgama&amp;x=6&amp;y=7\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Aluthgama<\/span><\/a> and Beruwala following the anti-Muslim clashes.<\/p>\n<p>He had been questioned regarding his news sources and had been extensively grilled over how he got <a href=\"https:\/\/www.colombotelegraph.com\/index.php\/sri-lankan-riots-claim-fourth-victim-not-a-single-arrest-made-yet\/\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">the number of deaths<\/span><\/a> as well as other sensitive details included in his coverage. The interrogation had lasted for three hours and Colombage had even been questioned about his association with Al- Jazeera.<\/p>\n<p>It has also been reported that his lawyers were not permitted to witness the questioning.<\/p>\n<p>Police Spokesman SSP <a href=\"https:\/\/www.colombotelegraph.com\/?s=Ajith+Rohana&amp;x=11&amp;y=6\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Ajith Rohana<\/span><\/a> has stated he was questioned by the CID due to contradictions in the number of deaths that was reported by Colombage and the official numbers released by the government.<\/p>\n<p>This interrogation also occurs following a tweet put up by Media Ministry Secretary <a href=\"https:\/\/www.colombotelegraph.com\/?s=Charitha+Herath&amp;x=3&amp;y=4\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Charitha Herath<\/span><\/a>, who condoned the recent ruling on the three Al-Jazeera journalists, which was recorded by Colombo Telegraph before he took it off.<\/p>\n<p>In the aftermath of the anti-Muslim clashes that erupted in Southern Sri Lanka on June 15 and 16, several Muslim politicians have pointed out that the number of deaths has been downplayed; the official government reports claim it is only three\/ But Colombage&#8217;s repors and tweets stated that it was seven and it has been confirmed by several other politicians including <a href=\"https:\/\/www.colombotelegraph.com\/?s=Azath+Salley&amp;x=7&amp;y=2\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Azath Salley<\/span><\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p> [&hellip;]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":22,"featured_media":115228,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"_jetpack_memberships_contains_paid_content":false,"footnotes":""},"categories":[3,1,6969,2375],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-127545","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-colombotelegraph","category-news","category-popular-stories","category-stories"],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v26.3 -
