He had lodged a formal complaint regarding the incident at the Cinnamon gardens Police station at about 5 pm today.<\/p>\n<p>The group of legal practitioners \u2013 LFD, issuing a statement this evening has pointed out that intimidations and surveillances of this nature have turned commonplace incidents for representatives of civil society organisations and Human Rights Defenders critical of the government.<\/p>\n<p>They have gone on to point out that the government has also not shown any interest to investigate and prosecute offenders responsible for unsolved crimes over the years, against individuals who have voiced dissenting views against the Rajapaksa regime.<\/p>\n<p>Senior lawyers Lal Wijenayake and J C Weliamuna, issuing the statement on behalf of LFD have called upon the government of Sri Lanka to conduct an impartial investigation into the incident and ensure the protection of the BASL President.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p> [&hellip;]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":22,"featured_media":127855,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"_jetpack_memberships_contains_paid_content":false,"footnotes":""},"categories":[3,1,6969,2375],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-127854","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-colombotelegraph","category-news","category-popular-stories","category-stories"],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v26.3 -
