The Bodu Bala Sena<\/span><\/a> (BBS) in their latest antic has shed their attention on depleting Tamil and Hindu populations in Sri Lanka, attributing the situation to narrow agendas carried out by certain elements and pledging to help address the issue of the Tamils and Hindus being socially marginalised.<\/p>\n

\"BBS<\/a>Organising a media briefing yesterday to announce their tie-up with a Hindu organisation to solve issues faced by Tamil and Hindu populations in Sri Lanka, the BBS has stated that it is not the ethnic conflict that lasted close to three decades that resulted in the drop of Tamil and Hindu populations but certain narrow agendas propagated by certain civil society organisations, Tamil diaspora groups, media and certain countries that have made interventions in the guise of helping to solve the ethnic conflict.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt was not the ethnic clash that has resulted in the drop in Tamil and Hindu populations that we presently observe,\u201d the BBS has noted adding it is the clever exploitation of the disagreements between Sinhala and Tamil communities during the conflict period and the period leading up to it,by certain elements.<\/p>\n

Quoting examples for this situation, they had pointed to the decreasing Tamil and Hindu populations in the East – particularly in the areas of Trincomalee and Vavuniya while cleverly disguising the accusatory comments on the rising Muslim population in the areas describing it as the \u2018systematic and opportunistic exploitation of the void created by the fleeing Tamil population during the war\u2019.<\/p>\n

BBS General Secretary Galagoda Atte Gnanasara<\/span><\/a> speaking at the media briefing yesterday had heavily criticized the Ministry of National Languages and Social Integration headed by Vasudeva Nanayakkara<\/span><\/a> stating it has failed in its duty of promoting reconciliation and social integration and is only releasing mere statements under the influence of external groups.<\/p>\n

He had stated that Nanayakkara has only been engaging in futile activities such as \u2018flying kites\u2019 at Galle Face in the name of developing national harmony – referring to a recently held kite festival organised by Nanayakkara\u2019s Ministry under the auspices of President Rajapaksa<\/span><\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe have been compelled to take measures to ensure national unity in Sri Lanka due to the failure of these ministers and their ministries,\u201d he had stated.<\/p>\n

In a bid to help Hindu and Tamil populations address their concerns and grievances, particularly of being socially marginalized, the BBS yesterday announced they are collaborating with the All Ceylon Hindu Federation adding they will be using the well connected networks of the ACHF to raise awareness among Tamil and Hindu groups on particularly issues that affect them.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
