{"id":130001,"date":"2014-09-08T19:51:18","date_gmt":"2014-09-08T14:21:18","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.colombotelegraph.com\/?p=130001"},"modified":"2015-03-29T23:26:41","modified_gmt":"2015-03-29T17:56:41","slug":"sinhala-colonization-in-the-north-sped-up","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.colombotelegraph.com\/index.php\/sinhala-colonization-in-the-north-sped-up\/","title":{"rendered":"Sinhala Colonization In The North Sped Up"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Sri Lanka Army has sped up the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.colombotelegraph.com\/?s=Sinhala+colonization&amp;x=7&amp;y=10\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Sinhala colonization<\/span><\/a> process that is being carried out pervasively in the Northern province, resulting in major changes to the social landscape and the culture in the areas.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.colombotelegraph.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/Nandimitra.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-130002\" src=\"https:\/\/www.colombotelegraph.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/Nandimitra.jpg\" alt=\"Nandimitra\" width=\"444\" height=\"601\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.colombotelegraph.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/Nandimitra.jpg 444w, https:\/\/www.colombotelegraph.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/Nandimitra-221x300.jpg 221w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 444px) 100vw, 444px\" \/><\/a>One Sri Lankan Defense Ministry website <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/army.lk\/detailed.php?NewsId=8467\">Army.lk<\/a><\/span> has updated a new report on a visit made by the Army Commander Lieutenant General Daya Ratnayake to several areas in the Wanni last Thursday to oversee the operations carried out by Army personnel where vast acres of land that were owned by Tamil families for generations have now been handed over to Sinhala families, forming &#8216;new&#8217; villages.<\/p>\n<p>The housing and other infrastructure facilities in these villages are being provided to the resettled Sinhalese families by the Sri Lanka army.<\/p>\n<p>One such area that was formerly a Tamil village known as Kokachankulam located in Vavunia North has been renamed as Nandimitragama &#8211; named after one of the ten giants, who according to legends helped <a href=\"https:\/\/www.colombotelegraph.com\/?s=Dutugemunu&amp;x=11&amp;y=7\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">King Dutugemunu<\/span><\/a> fight <a href=\"https:\/\/www.colombotelegraph.com\/?s=Elara&amp;x=9&amp;y=8\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">King Elara<\/span><\/a> and emerge victorious.
