Secretary to Ministry of Defence Gotabaya Rajapaksa<\/span><\/a> has pledged to wipe out the drug menace in the country in a style similar to how the Rajapaksa regime dealt with terrorism<\/span><\/a>.<\/p>\n

He has pointed at the sudden disappearances of various underworld leaders and stated that it bears evidence to the level of effectiveness with which the government is dealing with the drug issue.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere have been underworld leaders with various names. . . Wele Suda, Kimbulagala Gune, Thel Baala, Ice Manju . . . where are these individuals now? We don\u2019t know whether they are to be found in Sri Lanka or abroad,\u201d he had stated.<\/p>\n

Gotabaya had made these remarks during a ceremony held on Thursday to award permanent positions to those who were employed at the Land Reclamation and Development Corporation on a contract basis.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, he had stated that there is no point in appointing commissions to find means and ways to solve issues such as the drug menace as they would be made futile when those being probed begin bribing the Commissioners as well.<\/p>\n

\u201cMany are highlighting issues concerning corruption and rule of law in the country. But it should be kept in mind that these are not issues emerged during the tenure of President Rajapaksa<\/span><\/a> \u2013 these are concerns that he had to deal with just like the war when he was appointed as the President,\u201d he had said<\/p>\n
