This situation has resulted in a grave crisis within the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.colombotelegraph.com\/?s=Mahinda+Rajapaksa&amp;x=5&amp;y=4\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Rajapaksa<\/span><\/a> government,\u201d Sirisena said.<\/p>\n<p>He went on to state that it is no coincidence that the Presidential polls happened to be scheduled on January 8 \u2013 on the birthday of SLFP founder <a href=\"https:\/\/www.colombotelegraph.com\/?s=SWRD+Bandaranaike&amp;x=9&amp;y=8\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">SWRD Bandaranaike<\/span><\/a>. \u201cI am a longstanding member of the SLFP and will continue to be so. Upon my re-election I hope to bring the Bandaranaike policies envisioned in the SLFP back to life. But today I stand before the people as a candidate without any affiliations to a single political party, religion or community.
