{"id":133525,"date":"2014-11-24T00:01:44","date_gmt":"2014-11-23T18:31:44","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.colombotelegraph.com\/?p=133525"},"modified":"2014-12-02T03:00:58","modified_gmt":"2014-12-01T21:30:58","slug":"i-have-files-on-all-those-who-defected-mahinda","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.colombotelegraph.com\/index.php\/i-have-files-on-all-those-who-defected-mahinda\/","title":{"rendered":"I Have &#8216;Files&#8217; On All Those Who Defected: Mahinda"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A visibly irked President <a href=\"https:\/\/www.colombotelegraph.com\/?s=Mahinda+Rajapaksa&amp;x=7&amp;y=5\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Mahinda Rajapaksa<\/span><\/a>\u00a0last night said that he is in possession of &#8216;files&#8217; on all those who defected from the government last Friday in support of former Minister <a href=\"https:\/\/www.colombotelegraph.com\/?s=Maithripala+Sirisena&amp;x=8&amp;y=5\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Maithripala Sirisena<\/span><\/a>&#8216;s candidacy as the common candidate at the upcoming presidential polls.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.colombotelegraph.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/11\/Mahinda_Rajapaksa4_1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-60156\" alt=\"Mahinda_Rajapaksa4_1\" src=\"https:\/\/www.colombotelegraph.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/11\/Mahinda_Rajapaksa4_1.jpg\" width=\"398\" height=\"492\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.colombotelegraph.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/11\/Mahinda_Rajapaksa4_1.jpg 398w, https:\/\/www.colombotelegraph.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/11\/Mahinda_Rajapaksa4_1-242x300.jpg 242w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 398px) 100vw, 398px\" \/><\/a>Commenting on the Ministers and MPs who left his government, President Rajapaksa yesterday in Anuradhapura, said, &#8220;They should not be throwing stones from inside glass houses. I have details about them all and also &#8216;files&#8217; containing certain information about them. But I will not use them because I am not that type of a person &#8211; I do not seek revenge.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>He added that he is not the first person to be betrayed in this manner and pointed that giants of the SLFP including <a href=\"https:\/\/www.colombotelegraph.com\/?s=Sirimavo+Bandaranaike&amp;x=10&amp;y=0\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Sirima Bandaranaike<\/span><\/a> had to face similar disappointments from those closest to her in her political career including her daughter, former president <a href=\"https:\/\/www.colombotelegraph.com\/?s=Chandrika+Kumaratunga&amp;x=10&amp;y=4\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga<\/span><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;CBK mocked Mrs. Bandaranaike, defected and formed her own political party. So people just come and go but unlike others, I never left the party or abandoned it at any point,&#8221; he said adding that it is he who worked hard into increasing the number of SLFP MPs from 57 to 127 in the parliament after CBK left.<\/p>\n<p>President Rajapaksa also added that he has always maintained that in his government, anyone is free to join and leave as they please.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The doors of my government are like salon doors and they will continue to be so.
