{"id":133859,"date":"2014-11-28T15:48:04","date_gmt":"2014-11-28T10:18:04","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.colombotelegraph.com\/?p=133859"},"modified":"2014-12-09T05:16:48","modified_gmt":"2014-12-08T23:46:48","slug":"ranil-will-be-first-among-equals-mangala","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.colombotelegraph.com\/index.php\/ranil-will-be-first-among-equals-mangala\/","title":{"rendered":"Ranil Will Be First Among Equals: Mangala"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"line-height: 1.5em;\">UNP MP Mangala Samaraweera has today said that i<\/span><span style=\"line-height: 1.5em;\">n a Parliamentary democracy executive powers are vested in Parliament and the Cabinet of Ministers and the Prime Minister is, as the term implies the &#8216;first among equals&#8217;.<\/span><\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_48235\" style=\"width: 310px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.colombotelegraph.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/07\/Mangala-Samaraweera.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-48235\" class=\"size-full wp-image-48235\" alt=\"Mangala Samaraweera MP\" src=\"https:\/\/www.colombotelegraph.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/07\/Mangala-Samaraweera.jpg\" width=\"300\" height=\"233\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-48235\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Mangala Samaraweera MP<\/p><\/div>\n<p><span style=\"line-height: 1.5em;\">Issuing a clarification statement to the media he said; &#8220;as the reporting of the press conference held by me on November 27, 2014 (yesterday) was unclear and somewhat misleading in some newspapers.&#8221;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"line-height: 1.5em;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.colombotelegraph.com\/?s=Mangala+Samaraweera&amp;x=10&amp;y=6\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Mangala Samaraweera<\/span><\/a> said; &#8220;i<\/span><span style=\"line-height: 1.5em;\">n the proposed constitutional reforms of the joint opposition, supremacy of Parliament will be restored and an all party cabinet led by Prime Minister <a href=\"https:\/\/www.colombotelegraph.com\/?s=Ranil+Wickremesinghe&amp;x=10&amp;y=4\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Ranil Wickremesinghe<\/span><\/a> will deal with the day to day affairs of government and the PM would be head of government like in all Parliamentary democracies.
