{"id":134150,"date":"2014-12-02T15:03:49","date_gmt":"2014-12-02T09:33:49","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.colombotelegraph.com\/?p=134150"},"modified":"2014-12-11T16:33:59","modified_gmt":"2014-12-11T11:03:59","slug":"sumanthiran-keeps-away-from-todays-rally","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.colombotelegraph.com\/index.php\/sumanthiran-keeps-away-from-todays-rally\/","title":{"rendered":"Sumanthiran Keeps Away From Today&#8217;s Rally"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>TNA parliamentarian <a href=\"https:\/\/www.colombotelegraph.com\/?s=M.A.+Sumanthiran&amp;x=10&amp;y=5\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">MA Sumanthiran<\/span><\/a> today\u00a0kept away from<span style=\"line-height: 1.5em;\">\u00a0the rally organised by the Citizen&#8217;s Power Movement, pointing out he feels his attendance would be &#8216;inappropriate&#8217; as his party still has not made a decision on whether or not to support the common Opposition movement.<\/span><\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_128994\" style=\"width: 216px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.colombotelegraph.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/08\/Sumanthiran-.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-128994\" class=\" wp-image-128994   \" alt=\"M.A. Sumanthiran MP\" src=\"https:\/\/www.colombotelegraph.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/08\/Sumanthiran-.jpg\" width=\"206\" height=\"241\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.colombotelegraph.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/08\/Sumanthiran-.jpg 614w, https:\/\/www.colombotelegraph.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/08\/Sumanthiran--256x300.jpg 256w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 206px) 100vw, 206px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-128994\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">M.A. Sumanthiran MP<\/p><\/div>\n<p>A majority of members actively involved in the common Opposition movement are due to partake in the rally that is scheduled to start at the Hyde Park grounds in a short while.<\/p>\n<p>Releasing a statement on his decision to refrain from participating in today&#8217;s rally, MP Sumanthiran has pointed out that his decision to address at this event has been interpreted by certain groups as an indication of TNA joining the Common Opposition movement.<\/p>\n<p>He has pointed out that since no such decision has been made by the TNA so far, he does not believe it apt for him to participate in the event today on a personal capacity.<\/p>\n<p>He has however, noted three main concerns which all democratic forces in the country shares to which includes,<\/p>\n<p>&#8211; Concentration of Executive, judicial and parliamentary powers in the hands of a single family<\/p>\n<p>&#8211; Economic mismanagement and corruption<\/p>\n<p>&#8211; Break down of law and order<\/p>\n<p>while adding that he hopes the emerging political forces will create the means to solving these national issues faced by this country.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p> [&hellip;]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":22,"featured_media":128994,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"_jetpack_memberships_contains_paid_content":false,"footnotes":""},"categories":[3,1,6969,2375],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-134150","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-colombotelegraph","category-news","category-popular-stories","category-stories"],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v26.3 -
