Putting her ‘plan B’ into action, UPFA Western Provincial Councillor and daughter of slain SLFP stalwart Bharatha Lakshman Premachandra<\/span><\/a> – Hirunika<\/span><\/a> announced her decision to support the common candidate Maithripala Sirisena<\/span><\/a> a short while ago.<\/p>\n

\"Hirunika\"<\/a>Speaking at a media briefing at the Opposition Leader’s Office in Colombo, Hirunika said it was a decision she made on her own and stressed that she was not in anyway forced or encouraged into it by any member of the Opposition.<\/p>\n

In 2011, Hirunika speaking to the media in reference to fighting for justice for her father’s murder said, “I will never allow this crime to go unpunished. I am hoping the judicial system in this country to deliver justice to my family but if not I have a plan B and I am ready to deploy it.”<\/p>\n

“My father was murdered in broad daylight like an animal but until now, not a single perpetrator linked to my father’s murder has been brought to justice. Recently, Dematagoda Chaminda – the man who shot my father attempted to intimidate me with a group of about 40 thugs while I was meeting some of my supporters in Kolonnawa. If this is how justice is delivered upon us, just think how the rule of law must be enforced with concern to the common man?” she questioned.<\/p>\n

She said that a top member<\/span><\/a> of the government who came to meet her after learning of her decision to support Maithripala, had told that her leaving would only mean that her father’s murderers would walk away scott-free.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile she thanked former president Chandrika Kumaratunga<\/span><\/a> for supporting her decision and added that she will give her full backing to ensure the victory of Maithripala Sirisena as he is a disciplined leader, with a good vision and a true patriot.<\/p>\n
