{"id":134635,"date":"2014-12-10T14:19:46","date_gmt":"2014-12-10T08:49:46","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.colombotelegraph.com\/?p=134635"},"modified":"2014-12-16T18:48:04","modified_gmt":"2014-12-16T13:18:04","slug":"legal-action-against-colombo-mayor-over-illegal-hoardings-of-president","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.colombotelegraph.com\/index.php\/legal-action-against-colombo-mayor-over-illegal-hoardings-of-president\/","title":{"rendered":"Legal Action Against Colombo Mayor Over Illegal Hoardings Of President"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.colombotelegraph.com\/?s=Bar+Association+of+Sri+Lanka&amp;x=11&amp;y=5\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Bar Association of Sri Lanka<\/span><\/a> (BASL) said legal action will be filed against the Mayor of Colombo and the Colombo Municipal Commissioner by tomorrow against their failure to comply with the letter of demand sent by the organization concerning the illegal hoardings of President <a href=\"https:\/\/www.colombotelegraph.com\/?s=Mahinda+Rajapaksa&amp;x=11&amp;y=4\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Rajapaksa<\/span><\/a> that have been put up all over Colombo.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_127855\" style=\"width: 310px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.colombotelegraph.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/07\/Upul-Jayasuriya.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-127855\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-127855\" src=\"https:\/\/www.colombotelegraph.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/07\/Upul-Jayasuriya-300x238.jpg\" alt=\"Upul Jayasuriya -BASL President\" width=\"300\" height=\"238\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.colombotelegraph.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/07\/Upul-Jayasuriya-300x238.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.colombotelegraph.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/07\/Upul-Jayasuriya.jpg 415w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-127855\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Upul Jayasuriya -BASL President<\/p><\/div>\n<p>BASL officials said charges against the two officials will be filed under the Presidential elections act and property laws as the majority of the hoardings, cutouts and posters that have been put up bearing President Rajapaksa\u2019s image are illegal since required permission has not been sought and neither have the relevant fees been paid.<\/p>\n<p>The BASL said that over 1800 bearing the image of President Rajapaksa and details\/images of development projects launched during his tenure have been put up within the city limits of Colombo and is in direct violation of the by-laws published in the Gazette Notification issued in 1989 and Advertising Guidelines of the Colombo Municipal Council (CMC) that were introduced in 2006.<\/p>\n<p>Moreover, these illegal hoardings have also been put up within the premises of state institutions including Ministries, state departments and other state-managed establishments.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p> [&hellip;]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":22,"featured_media":127855,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"_jetpack_memberships_contains_paid_content":false,"footnotes":""},"categories":[3,1,6969,2375],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-134635","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-colombotelegraph","category-news","category-popular-stories","category-stories"],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v26.3 -
