{"id":135069,"date":"2014-12-18T00:09:42","date_gmt":"2014-12-17T18:39:42","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.colombotelegraph.com\/?p=135069"},"modified":"2014-12-18T04:12:49","modified_gmt":"2014-12-17T22:42:49","slug":"ranil-pledges-to-scrap-corrupt-port-city-project","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.colombotelegraph.com\/index.php\/ranil-pledges-to-scrap-corrupt-port-city-project\/","title":{"rendered":"Ranil Pledges To Scrap Corrupt Port City Project"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>UNP Leader <a href=\"https:\/\/www.colombotelegraph.com\/?s=Ranil+Wickremesinghe&amp;x=9&amp;y=7\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Ranil Wickremesinghe<\/span><\/a> has stated that the Colombo Port City project that has come under heavy criticism with regard to alleged financial misappropriations in the deal, will be scrapped once common candidate <a href=\"https:\/\/www.colombotelegraph.com\/?s=Maithripala+Sirisena&amp;x=10&amp;y=0\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Maithripala Sirisena<\/span><\/a> is elected into power.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.colombotelegraph.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/06\/2104Ranil-wickramasinghe_2J.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-43484\" src=\"https:\/\/www.colombotelegraph.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/06\/2104Ranil-wickramasinghe_2J.jpg\" alt=\"2104Ranil wickramasinghe_2J\" width=\"250\" height=\"300\" \/><\/a>Wickremesinghe had made this remark during a meeting held with Tourist industry stakeholders in Colombo. During the discussion he had stated that the main reason for deciding to scrap the project is the adverse impacts the project would have on the Negombo &#8211; Beruwala coastal belt due to the sea being reclaimed.<\/p>\n<p>The Colombo Port City project came under hevy criticism after UNP MP Dr. Harsha De Silva revealed that one of project&#8217;s major investors &#8211; the China Communications Construction Company (CCCC) has been blacklisted by the World Bank due to corruption charges.<\/p>\n<p>He had also stated that under the new government, the Mattala airport which is presently incurring an operational loss of Rs. 2750 million during last year alone, will be made more viable and added that a new airport will be constructed in the Eastern province.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p> [&hellip;]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":22,"featured_media":43484,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"_jetpack_memberships_contains_paid_content":false,"footnotes":""},"categories":[3,1,2375],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-135069","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-colombotelegraph","category-news","category-stories"],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v26.3 -
