Presidential candidate of the New Democratic Front, Maithripala Sirisena<\/span><\/a> says the Rajapaksa<\/span><\/a> regime is attempting to spread terrorism paranoia in the minds of the masses again to manipulate the voters.<\/p>\n

\"Maithripala\"<\/a>Speaking at the launch of his manifesto held at the Viharamahadevi Park in Colombo a short while ago, Sirisena said that he will move forward and would not deter the campaign backed by the common Opposition despite the challenges and disruptions that continuously come their way.<\/p>\n

The much awaited manifesto launched today contains proposals focused mainly on 11 areas. The proposed changes in the document is to be brought into effect upon implementing constitutional amendments that includes the abolition of the Executive Presidency<\/span><\/a>. It is to be replaced by an Executive System linked with the parliament after which, the President would be equal before the law like any other citizen of the country.<\/p>\n

The Manifesto also proposes a set of ethics for people’s representatives to be introduced and legalized in order to prevent them from abusing their power to engage in unlawful activities.<\/p>\n

It also calls for the preferential system to be annulled, the establishment of a mechanism to uphold good governance, the implementation of the right to information act and the establishment of an independent Elections Commission to ensure free and fair polls.<\/p>\n

Among other proposals included in the Manifesto of the NDF candidate is for the salaries of the state sector employees to be increased by Rs. 10,000 and a 6% GDP allocation for the education sector.<\/p>\n
