The Bar Association of Sri Lanka today called upon De Facto Chief Justice Mohan Pieris<\/span><\/a> to step down from the position.<\/p>\n

“At an emergency meeting of the Executive Committee of the BASL, which\u00a0was attended by close to 90% of its members, it was unanimously\u00a0decided to issue a statement calling for the resignation of Chief Justice Mohan\u00a0Pieris in order to preserve the honour and integrity of the\u00a0Judiciary in view of the grave and continuing damage being caused to\u00a0the entire Judiciary as a result of the recent events and\u00a0uncontradicted reports that Mohan Peiris, while functioning\u00a0as Chief Justice, was at Temple Trees<\/span> <\/a>from prior to dawn of 09th\u00a0January, 2015 at a time when election results were being announced and\u00a0political and executive decisions were being taken.”\u00a0Upul Jayasuriya<\/span><\/a> told Colombo Telegraph.<\/p>\n
