De Facto Chief Justice Mohan Pieris<\/span><\/a> has agreed to step down from the post, Health Minister Dr. Rajitha Senaratne<\/span><\/a> told journalists in Colombo a short while ago.<\/p>\n

De facto Chief Justice Mohan Pieris<\/p><\/div>\n

Dr. Senarathne said that de facto CJ Pieris had informed Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe<\/span><\/a> that he would step down from the post soon.<\/p>\n

Mohan Pieris was appointed as CJ by the Ex-President Mahinda Rajapaksa after the illegal removal of the CJ Shirani Bandaranayake.<\/p>\n

Serving Chief Justice Shirani Bandaranayake had not been removed as per proper procedure, and therefore, there was no vacancy. “Parliament had not passed an appropriate resolution \u2013 a proper address to the President seeking the removal of the Chief Justice on the basis of the findings of the Parliamentary Select Committee. What it passed was an old one which had set the impeachment process in motion.” TNA MP, lawyer M.A.Sumanthiran<\/span><\/a> told media.<\/p>\n
