The Transnational Government of Tamil Eelam (TGTE<\/span><\/a>) has today urged the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, Prince Zeid Ra\u2019ad Zeid Al-Hussein<\/span><\/a>, to visit the island of Sri Lanka to get information for the Office of the High Commissioner\u2019s Investigation on Sri Lanka (OISL) report to be submitted to the UN Human Rights Council in March, 2015.<\/p>\n

Noting that the newly appointed Sri Lanka’s Prime Minister, Ranil Wickremesinghe<\/span><\/a>, has stated that he is willing to engage with the United Nations probe, TGTE’s Prime Minister Visuvanathan Rudrakumaran<\/span><\/a> urged in his letter to the High Commissioner that this is a \u201cwindow of opportunity\u201d that should not be missed.<\/p>\n

The letter further states that the Investigation Team would have already recorded evidence from the victims and reliable third party sources. However, we firmly believe many victims living in the island of Sri Lanka have not spoken yet. Thus this opportunity should be utilized to meet with the victims directly.<\/p>\n

According to the letter, visit will serve to:<\/p>\n

1) Visit the crime scene to obtain forensic evidence, among others.<\/p>\n

2) Investigation of alleged perpetrators, if necessary, to determine which officials within the chain of command bear responsibility.<\/p>\n
