One of the ugliest facets of the Rajapaksa<\/span><\/a> regime was its conduct in the state media. Even by State media standards no others surpassed the absolute low levels that were reached by the Editor of the Daily News, Rajpal Abeynayake<\/span><\/a>. From foreign leaders, ambassadors, public servants to opposition politicians have all been victims of this vitriolic individual claiming to be a journalist. even die hard supporters of the Rajapaksa regime such as Dayan Jayatilleka<\/span><\/a> have been called donkey by in the Daily News editorial.<\/p>\n

Even more preposterous is the retention of Rajpal Abeynayake as the editor of the Daily News. It is reliably learnt from sources within the Lake House that Abeynayake continues to function as the Editor of the paper and is now writing its editorials. Not known for any principles, integrity or values, Abeynayake has no qualms about pandering to his new masters as long has he is paid and his privileges continued. In 180 degree turn from his unquestionable defence of the Rajapaksa regime, including the anti-Muslim massacre in Aluthgama<\/span><\/a>, Abeynayake has now taken to topics such as ethnic harmony, reconciliation, good governance and demilitarization.<\/p>\n

In the later part of the election cycle he called Muslim MP\u2019s who supported candidate Sirisena Pigs and then went on to apologize to Pigs<\/span><\/a>. He has called President Sirisena a traitor, an Eelamist, a crook and a cowered<\/span><\/a> among many other names.<\/p>\n

Abeynayake has been involved in numerous scandals during the Rajapaksa regime. Famously he got mugged at a brothel in Geneva during an all expenses paid trip to cover the Human Rights Council sessions in 2012. He and Bandula Jayasekera<\/span><\/a>, another Rajapaksa mouth piece had visited the establishment again with tax payer money when they faced the misfortune.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
