{"id":138719,"date":"2015-02-06T16:24:00","date_gmt":"2015-02-06T10:54:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.colombotelegraph.com\/?p=138719"},"modified":"2015-02-06T16:24:00","modified_gmt":"2015-02-06T10:54:00","slug":"lfd-urges-igp-to-hold-an-inquiry-into-talawakelle-youths-death","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.colombotelegraph.com\/index.php\/lfd-urges-igp-to-hold-an-inquiry-into-talawakelle-youths-death\/","title":{"rendered":"LFD Urges IGP To Hold An Inquiry Into Talawakelle Youth\u2019s Death"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A group of legal practitioners has called upon the IGP to launch a high-level inquiry in the death of the youth who was in custody of the Talawakelle Police in order to determine the truth and assure the people that inhuman and undemocratic acts will not continue under the new regime.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.colombotelegraph.com\/?s=Lawyers+for+Democracy+&amp;x=4&amp;y=7\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.colombotelegraph.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/12\/IGP-Police-.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-134323\" src=\"https:\/\/www.colombotelegraph.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/12\/IGP-Police--225x300.jpg\" alt=\"IGP Police\" width=\"225\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.colombotelegraph.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/12\/IGP-Police--225x300.jpg 225w, https:\/\/www.colombotelegraph.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/12\/IGP-Police-.jpg 476w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 225px) 100vw, 225px\" \/><\/a>Lawyers for Democracy<\/span> <\/a>(LFD) issuing a statement on the death of the youth, while expressing their grave concern have pointed out that the explanation given by the Police concerning how the death occurred is suspicious due to several improbabilities.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis explanation resembles the ones given by the Police for the past three years, concerning sudden deaths of individuals who were in Police custody,\u201d LFD Convener <a href=\"https:\/\/www.colombotelegraph.com\/?s=Lal+Wijenayake&amp;x=8&amp;y=7\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Lal Wijenayake<\/span><\/a> states.<\/p>\n<p>He has pointed out further that it\u2019s regrettable that the Police have failed to appreciate the verdict of the people at the last Presidential elections where they rejected the human rights violations committed by the Rajapaksa regime.<\/p>\n<p>Identified as Marimuttu Manoj, the youth was in custody of the Talwakelle Police as a suspect when his death occurred.
