{"id":138997,"date":"2015-02-10T12:31:50","date_gmt":"2015-02-10T07:01:50","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.colombotelegraph.com\/?p=138997"},"modified":"2015-02-10T12:41:08","modified_gmt":"2015-02-10T07:11:08","slug":"duminda-silva-interrogated-by-cid","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.colombotelegraph.com\/index.php\/duminda-silva-interrogated-by-cid\/","title":{"rendered":"Duminda Silva Interrogated By CID"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>UPFA MP <a href=\"https:\/\/www.colombotelegraph.com\/?s=Duminda+Silva&amp;x=8&amp;y=4\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Duminda Silva<\/span><\/a> has been interrogated by the CID for over six hours since this morning on the charges leveled against him by drug kingpin \u2018WeleSuda\u2019 who was arrested a few weeks ago.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_85148\" style=\"width: 410px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.colombotelegraph.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/05\/dumindagota-colombo-telegraph.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-85148\" class=\"wp-image-85148 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.colombotelegraph.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/05\/dumindagota-colombo-telegraph.jpg\" alt=\"dumindagota-colombo-telegraph\" width=\"400\" height=\"333\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.colombotelegraph.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/05\/dumindagota-colombo-telegraph.jpg 400w, https:\/\/www.colombotelegraph.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/05\/dumindagota-colombo-telegraph-300x249.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 400px) 100vw, 400px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-85148\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Duminda and Gota<\/p><\/div>\n<p>During a media briefing Police Spokesman stated that Welesuda has stated that he paid large sums of money to Silva, who was the Monitoring MP of the Defence Ministry during the Rajapaska regime, to continue his drug smuggling activities unhindered.<\/p>\n<p>Silva had arrived at the CID accompanied by two lawyers to make his statement. The MP has been for long been accused to be one of the main handlers of the drug racket in Colombo.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDuminda Silva is not my man, he is Gota\u2019s man\u201d President Mahinda Rajapkasa <a href=\"https:\/\/www.colombotelegraph.com\/index.php\/duminda-silva-is-not-my-man-he-is-gotas-man-mr-said-to-bharatha-and-rathnasiri\/\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">said<\/span><\/a> to both <a href=\"https:\/\/www.colombotelegraph.com\/?s=Bharatha+Lakshman+Premachandra&amp;x=10&amp;y=4\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Bharatha Lakshman Premachandra<\/span><\/a> and former Prime Minister and senior Minister Rathnasiri Wickramanayake.<\/p>\n<p>As Colombo Telegraph <a href=\"https:\/\/www.colombotelegraph.com\/index.php\/duminda-silva-is-not-my-man-he-is-gotas-man-mr-said-to-bharatha-and-rathnasiri\/\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">reported in\u00a0October 11, 2011<\/span><\/a>, three months before Bharath was killed, Bharatha had complained to the President that Duminda Silva had given a contract to underworld thugs to murder him. President Rajapaksa had subsequently ordered the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) to investigate the alleged murder plot. Two underworld gangsters who were in police custody at that time had given statements to the CID confirming the murder plot. Bharatha Lakshman had secured a copy of this CID investigation report and informed Rathanasiri Wickramanayke, Minister Susil Premajayantha, Alavi Moulana, the Governor of the Western Province, Minister John Senavirathne and some other senior Sri Lanka Freedom Party members about the CID findings.<\/p>\n<p>The Colombo Telegraph has learnt from several sources within the ruling party that Rathnasiri Wickramanayake and Bharatha Lakshman Premachandra had met and urged the President to remove Duminda Silva from Kolonnawa and arrest the underworld gangs operating under Duminda three month ago.
