Former President Mahinda Rajapaksa<\/span><\/a> now seems to be the champion of good governance as he has for the few weeks been repeatedly calling upon the new government to ensure good governance is established and to put a stop to vengeful politics.<\/p>\n

MR made these remarks today when he visited the Mahara prison in the morning to visit former Deputy Minister Sarana Gunawardena<\/span><\/a> who is currently in remand prison for financial fraud.<\/p>\n

\u201cI don\u2019t believe it\u2019s a good trend to arrest people in this manner for civil cases. This is not good governance,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

The former President went on to state the Police too should act responsibly with regard to enforcing the law but added he is well aware that these actions are carried out due to political pressure.<\/p>\n

\u201cI know that Gamini Senarath<\/span><\/a> has been questioned for facilitating vehicle leasing as the Chairman of the People\u2019s Leasing. . . Now there is an attempt to remand Ratwatte upon questioning him . . .We can now clearly understand the road taken up by this government,\u201d he said while adding such revengeful acts should stop and good governance should be reinstated.<\/p>\n

He urged the SLFP Chairman to look into the issues and ensure justice is delivered.<\/p>\n
