{"id":141651,"date":"2015-03-25T05:07:49","date_gmt":"2015-03-24T23:37:49","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.colombotelegraph.com\/?p=141651"},"modified":"2015-04-01T21:58:51","modified_gmt":"2015-04-01T16:28:51","slug":"fonseka-promotion-sirisena-govt-is-similar-to-its-predecessor","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.colombotelegraph.com\/index.php\/fonseka-promotion-sirisena-govt-is-similar-to-its-predecessor\/","title":{"rendered":"Fonseka Promotion: Sirisena Govt Is Similar To Its Predecessor"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.colombotelegraph.com\/?s=Kumaravadivel+Guruparan&amp;x=3&amp;y=7\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Kumaravadivel Guruparan<\/span><\/a> &#8211; academic and Co-spokesperson of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.colombotelegraph.com\/?s=Tamil+Civil+Society+Forum&amp;x=11&amp;y=4\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Tamil Civil Society Forum<\/span><\/a> (TCSF) expressing his disappointment over the government&#8217;s promotion of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.colombotelegraph.com\/index.php\/sri-lankas-alleged-war-criminal-human-rights-violator-elevated-to-field-marshal\/\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Sarath Fonseka into the Field Marshall<\/span><\/a> title earlier this week, states that it appears the Sirisena government is following in the same footsteps of the Rajapaksa regime, in concluding that the Sri Lanka Army is not a guilty party to the human rights abuses that had occurred during the final phases of the war.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_83351\" style=\"width: 149px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.colombotelegraph.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/04\/Kumaravadivel-Guruparan1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-83351\" class=\" wp-image-83351\" src=\"https:\/\/www.colombotelegraph.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/04\/Kumaravadivel-Guruparan1.jpg\" alt=\"Kumaravadivel Guruparan \" width=\"139\" height=\"158\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-83351\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Kumaravadivel Guruparan<\/p><\/div>\n<p>&#8220;The government has reached the conclusion of freeing the SLA of any blame with concern to the grave abuses that occurred during the conflict, even before they have completed the preliminary work to establish the domestic mechanism, which was promised in order get the OISL report deferral&#8221; Guruparan told Colombo Telegraph.<\/p>\n<p>He points out the swiftness with which the government has acted in dismantling the cases against Fonseka &#8211; who was high in the chain of command responsible for the grave violations that took place during the conflict- is unmatched when it is compared with any of the other promises that were pledged in President Sirisena\u2019s manifesto.<\/p>\n<p>He has recalled that it was when Fonseka was the Jaffna Army Commander that he refused to reduce the size of the illegal high security zone in Valikamam North and in fact expanded it with a new buffer zone, beyond the existing boundaries during the Norwegian peace process.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe President said its part of the government\u2019s &#8216;quest for justice for the whole army&#8217; and even his Foreign Minister recently stated in the Parliament that the internal inquiry would be held to clear the name for the Lankan armed forces,\u201d he says while pointing out Fonseka\u2019s promotion and the other changes made to the top army brass do not bode well with the commitment made regarding a credible domestic inquiry into the alleged abuses that occurred during the final phases of the war.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p> [&hellip;]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":22,"featured_media":141530,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"_jetpack_memberships_contains_paid_content":false,"footnotes":""},"categories":[3,1,6969,2375],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-141651","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-colombotelegraph","category-news","category-popular-stories","category-stories"],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v26.3 -
