{"id":143894,"date":"2015-05-02T03:13:04","date_gmt":"2015-05-01T21:43:04","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.colombotelegraph.com\/?p=143894"},"modified":"2015-05-02T04:12:06","modified_gmt":"2015-05-01T22:42:06","slug":"colombo-university-vc-resigns","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.colombotelegraph.com\/index.php\/colombo-university-vc-resigns\/","title":{"rendered":"Colombo University VC Resigns"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Vice Chancellor of the University of Colombo, Dr <a href=\"https:\/\/www.colombotelegraph.com\/?s=Kumara+Hirimburegama&amp;x=13&amp;y=3\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Kumara Hirimburegama<\/span><\/a> has resigned from the post with effect from yesterday, <em>Colombo Telegraph<\/em> learns.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.colombotelegraph.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/Kumara-Hirimburegama.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-thumbnail wp-image-138180\" src=\"https:\/\/www.colombotelegraph.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/Kumara-Hirimburegama-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"Kumara Hirimburegama\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.colombotelegraph.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/Kumara-Hirimburegama-150x150.jpg 150w, https:\/\/www.colombotelegraph.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/Kumara-Hirimburegama-50x50.jpg 50w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 150px) 100vw, 150px\" \/><\/a>The Colombo University Federation of Teachers\u2019 Associations (CUFTA) had been demanding for VC Kumara Hirimburegama\u2018s resignation, since he was appointed as the\u00a0Vice Chancellor.<\/p>\n<p>On an earlier occasion <em>Colombo Telegraph<\/em> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.colombotelegraph.com\/index.php\/a-gota-loyalist-to-be-appointed-as-the-vc-of-university-of-colombo-university-teachers-to-take-union-action\/\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">reported<\/span><\/a> how the candidates for the post of VC fared at the voting by the Governing Council of the University of Colombo. Of the three candidates, Dr. Kumara Hirimburegama, reportedly a grade II senior lecturer got 13 votes as against the 15 votes earned by the candidate with the highest votes, namely, presently Senior Professor Lakshman Dissanayake.
