Dr. Radhika Coomaraswamy<\/span><\/a> in the limelight over speculation that she is to be appointed to the Constitutional Council<\/span><\/a> has apparently blown hot and cold over references to her past actions, some of which were highlighted by Colombo Telegraph<\/em><\/span><\/a>.<\/p>\n

Dr. Radhika Coomaraswamy<\/p><\/div>\n

Colombo Telegraph<\/em> reliably learns that she had taken issue with an editorial comment<\/span><\/a> in the Daily Mirror<\/em> on the subject of the Constitutional Council. While Coomaraswamy’s name has not been mentioned, perhaps believing that the editorial was referring to her, she had called the Editor, Kesara Abeywardena<\/span><\/a>, Colombo Telegraph<\/em> learns from multiple sources.<\/p>\n

In order to find out if indeed these claims are true, Colombo Telegraph<\/em>\u00a0yesterday wrote to Coomaraswamy.<\/p>\n

The following are the questions put to her:<\/p>\n

Is it true that you called the Editor, ‘Daily Mirror<\/em>‘ Mr. Kesara Abeywardena regarding an editorial on the Constitutional Council?<\/p>\n

Did you or did you not express strong objection to the contents of this editorial, faulting the Editor for maligning or in other ways casting you in unfavourable light, even though your name was not mentioned?<\/p>\n

Dr Coomaraswamy is yet to respond. Her alleged outburst subsequent to reading the said editorial has apparently been replaced by a total silence.<\/p>\n

“The editorial was very direct and very clear that it was aimed at Radhika. She had no business to be scolding. It’s the newspaper’s duty to take whatever editorial line that it wants. If Sunday Times<\/em> had done that and she had tried, she would have got a blasting from Sinha<\/span><\/a>! She would probably have never have dared.” a source close to the owner of the Wijeya publications told Colombo Telegraph<\/em>.<\/p>\n

“She even told Daily Mirror editor that she was a friend of the newspaper owner Ranjith Wijewardene, she is mad to say that. Daily Mirror<\/em> should publish that conversation in full.” the source further said.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
