{"id":146188,"date":"2015-06-18T15:10:25","date_gmt":"2015-06-18T09:40:25","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.colombotelegraph.com\/?p=146188"},"modified":"2015-06-18T21:28:36","modified_gmt":"2015-06-18T15:58:36","slug":"dockyardgate-bribery-corruption-commission-starts-inquiry-into-mohan-pieris","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.colombotelegraph.com\/index.php\/dockyardgate-bribery-corruption-commission-starts-inquiry-into-mohan-pieris\/","title":{"rendered":"Dockyardgate: Bribery &#038; Corruption Commission Starts Inquiry Into Mohan Pieris"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Writ Application filed by the lawyer Nagananda Kodituwakku against the Corruption Commission came before the Supreme Court which comprised a bench of Chandra Ekanayake, Sarath de Abrew and Upali Abeyrathna, yesterday.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_69756\" style=\"width: 160px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.colombotelegraph.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/01\/Mohan-Pieris.gif\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-69756\" class=\"size-thumbnail wp-image-69756\" src=\"https:\/\/www.colombotelegraph.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/01\/Mohan-Pieris-150x150.gif\" alt=\"Mohan Pieris\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.colombotelegraph.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/01\/Mohan-Pieris-150x150.gif 150w, https:\/\/www.colombotelegraph.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/01\/Mohan-Pieris-50x50.gif 50w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 150px) 100vw, 150px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-69756\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Mohan Pieris<\/p><\/div>\n<p>The Petitioner, Counsel Kodituwakku appeared in person, informed Court that the Corruption Commission had formally informed him that it has initiated \u2018due investigation\u2019 into the complaint made against <a href=\"https:\/\/www.colombotelegraph.com\/?s=Mohan+Pieris&amp;x=11&amp;y=4\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Mohan Pieris<\/span><\/a> for causing a colossal loss of government revenue abusing the office of the AG. Corruption charge leveled against AG Mohan Pieris for in connivance in defrauding over 600 million rupees of public funds alleged to have been misappropriated by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.colombotelegraph.com\/?s=Colombo+Dockyard&amp;x=11&amp;y=4\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Colombo Dockyard Company<\/span><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"line-height: 1.5;\">The Court was informed that the purpose of the writ application filed in Court was to compel the Corruption Commission to initiate a proper investigation into the matter and as the Commission has already initiated action on the complaint he would not proceed with the Writ application.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>However, counsel informed the Court that he would reserve his right to revive the matter in the event the Commission failed to issue legal proceedings against Mohan Pieris for causing a colossal loss to the government stated in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.colombotelegraph.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/2014-05-26-PETITION1.pdf\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">the Petition in detail<\/span><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>In this case the Counsel Kodituwakku had informed the Chief Justice that this case shall not be listed before a bench, which does include Buwaneka Aluwihare, Sarath Abrew and Priayantha Jayawardena as he has no trust and confidence in them.<\/p>\n<p>Therefore, Sarath Abrew declined to take part in the proceedings and the matter was accordingly postponed for 29th July 2015 for further hearing.
