For the very first time in its history, Sri Lanka Cricket was not officially represented when the International Cricket Council permitted Sri Lanka Cricket\u2019s representative Sidath Wettimuny<\/span><\/a> to attend the annual ICC Conference only as an observer, which was held in the Caribbean Island of Barbados according to the ICC’ website yesterday.<\/p>\n

\"Sidath\"<\/a>The ICC made a statement to the effect that \u201cthe ICC Board received an update on SLC and reiterated its earlier position that an appointment of an Interim Committee of Sri Lanka Cricket appointed by the Government of Sri Lanka was a breach of ICC\u2019s constitution. The ICC Board urged the Sports Minister of Sri Lanka to hold free and fair elections before the next ICC Board Meeting in October, adding that the ICC reserved the right to take further action against the SLC in the event of further non-compliance\u201d.<\/p>\n

However as a courtesy to SLC, Wettimuny was permitted to be a part of the group picture taken of officials who attended the meeting.<\/p>\n

It was only a couple of months ago that the ICC made it very clear to SLC that they would not permit any political appointees to attend ICC meetings. Nuski Mohamed<\/span><\/a> also a current member of the Interim Committee, was permitted to attend an ICC meeting in Dubai earlier only as an observer. Due to that fact Mohamed refused to attend the ICC meeting on his arrival in Dubai, but opted rather to use that opportunity to meet up with ‘Ten Sports’ officials on a private capacity, especially with the upcoming Indian tour scheduled to be held later in August.<\/p>\n

A stake holder of SLC said “Sri Lanka Cricket should heed the stance the ICC took at yesterday’s meeting, when they suspended the United States of America Cricket Association (USACA) an associate member of theirs, for non-compliance to advise and instructions provided to them earlier in the year “.<\/p>\n

“It is interesting to note that whilst the late Gamini Dissanayake created history by being instrumental in Sri Lanka gaining Test Cricket Status, his son, the current Minister of Sports Navin Dissanayake<\/span><\/a> has been responsible for also creating a bit of history for himself now. Contrary to the good his father did for cricket in the country it seems like his son is set to undo all the good his dad did for the country, especially for cricket” concluded stake holder of SLC.<\/p>\n

The ICC Board consists of the nominated representatives of each of the 10 Full Members plus three elected Associate Member representatives. The meeting was chaired by Mr Narayanaswami Srinivasan. Also present is the ICC President and ICC Chief Executive.<\/p>\n

Also present is the ICC Chief Executive who chairs the meeting, and, by invitation, the ICC Chairman, the Chairman of the ICC Cricket Committee and the Chair of the ICC Women\u2019s Committee.
